Chayla Harris poses for a picture. Chayla Harris, a 21 year old microbiology major from Atlanta, Georgia, was the 68th "Miss Southern". Chayla Harris was a former member of the Southern University famed "Dancing Dolls". She was experienced in ballet, trained with the Spelman College Dance Extension Program, the Aspen (Colorado) Ballet Program, Alvin Ailey's Summer Program, and the Ballethnic Dance Company of Atlanta, Georgia. Harris also performed for the 1994 Super Bowl Halftime Shown and the Ballethnic Dance Company's signature pieces "Urban Nutcracker" and "The Leopard Tale." Harris was a member of the Honors College with an overall 3.2 grade point average and is also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She reigned as Miss Southern from 1998-1999
