86th Annual Commencement Exercises, 2011
This is a video recording of the 86th Annual Commencement Exercises at American Baptist College. This video shows the entire event from the processional of the graduates to their recessional. Rev. Dr. Forrest E. Harris, the President of ABC, recognizes guests and introduces the commencement speaker at 34:00. The speaker for the commencement is Mr. John Siegenthaler, Sr. He was the Tennessee Chairman Emeritus, he hosted the weekly book review program called "Words on Words," was the Senior Advisory Trustee of the Freedom Forum, and the Founder of the First Amendment Center. The backdrop of this Commencement is the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides and according to President Harris in his introduction, the push for the graduates to be "champions of social justice leadership and causes." Mr. Siegenthaler establishes his address' focus on the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides; he discusses how the Freedom Rides and the Nashville Movement changed lives. He delves into his personal, historic recollection of ABC and believes it has "lessons for the present.

Philander Smith College Oral History Collection: Karama Neal, March 24, 2009
This video contains an oral history that took place at Philander Smith College, Donald W. Reynold Library. This video contains the oral history interview of Dr. Karama Neal. Neal begins by describing her childhood in Little Rock, AR, where she was born, including the demographics of her neighborhood, her childhood memories, upbringing, family composition, community involvement, her parents’ education and careers, and religious background. At 7:23, Dr. Neal is asked about the economic situation of her family during her childhood. At 8:44, Dr. Neal is asked about her formal educational background. Dr. Neal discusses her educational background, from attending Montessori school in elementary school to earning a PhD at Emory University, followed by a master's degree from Loyola University. At 9:46, Neal is asked to describe her ideas about adulthood when she was between the ages of 18 and 25. At 10:32, Neal is asked who the most influential person is in the development of her ideas. Dr. Neal describes how her mother and grandmother influenced her. At 11:12, the conversation shifts to focus on Dr. Neal’s current life, and she is asked where she is currently employed. At 12:01, Neal is asked if she does any type of volunteer work. Dr. Neal discusses blood donation and writing a public service web blog. At 13:12, Dr. Neal is asked about her hobbies. At 13:40, Dr. Neal is asked where she has traveled in the last five years. At 14:46, Dr. Neal is asked as an African American, what has been the biggest challenge she has faced. At 16:21, Dr. Neal is asked what she feels is the biggest challenge African American youth face. At 17:40, Neal is asked, as an African American woman, if she feels that she is leaving a legacy for future generations. At 18:16, Dr. Neal is asked what advice she would give to young Americans today. At the end of the interview (19:21), Dr. Neal is asked if she has any other information she would like to share. Dr. Neal shares that she is happy to be back in Arkansas and that she is excited about this interview project. The interview ends with the interviewer thanking Dr. Karama Neal
