Ultrasound Physics and its Application in Medicine
No full text336 p.Ultrasound has a wide range of medical applications. Some of these include obstetrics (monitoring the progress of pregnancy), oncology (monitoring the growth of tumors), cardiology (visualizing the heart function and physiology), biopsy (guiding needles in various procedures), and physiotherapy. For example, today, an estimated 60-70% of pregnant women in the United States undergo ultrasound examination during pregnancy. An estimated 250 million fetal ultrasound examinations are performed every year in the USA. In the last few decades, ultrasound technology has expanded to medical imaging in various other specialties: Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, General Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN), Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Physiatry, Sports Medicine, and Surgery. The increasing demand in the use of ultrasound technology in various biomedical fields points to a future in which medical professionals will be required to possess a general knowledge of ultrasound technology. While currently most medical professionals rely on technicians to perform the imaging studies, there can be a high degree of operator dependent results. Therefore, a solid foundation of the technological properties of ultrasound would give health care providers a competitive advantage in the future. This is one of the first goals of this textbook. This textbook also covers general aspects of diagnostic ultrasound providing an excellent reference for both beginners and professionals. In addition, this textbook has end-of-the-chapter experiments that will help educators conduct labs for students and any other learners to enhance their learning and solidify the practical skills
An Introduction to Python Jupyter Notebooks for College Math Teachers
No full text1191 p.This book is an introduction to the use of Python Jupyter Notebooks (JNBs) for college math teachers and their students. The book is an evolving work in progress, but we hope this 1st Edition may already be quite useful to a college math teacher who is interested to use Jupyter Notebooks in their courses. Each section of the book has been written in the form of a Jupyter Notebook and can be downloaded using the download button at the top menu bar. In some cases, additional data files or image files may need to be downloaded as well.
Each chapter contains a JNB lab with solutions. Experienced teachers can modify these labs and create new labs tailored to their courses. The chapters were written by different authors/authorship teams, and as such, vary in style. Each chapter essentially can be read independently of the others as long as one has the pre-requisite mathematical knowledge. Some effort has been made to standardize the chapter formats, and the index may help the reader find specific topics of interest. There is virtually no limit to what can be done with JNBs, and we hope this work serves as a useful starting point for teachers and students to enrich and enliven the study of mathematics using this tool.
The JNBs used to create this book contain special markdown code which are needed to produce features such as indexing, referencing, and highlight boxes in the Jupyter Book. Some editing of a downloaded JNB may may make it more suitable for classroom use

Evaluation of Antineoplastic Activity of Aloe vera latex extract on Human Hepatic Cancer Cell Line
Get PDF6 p.Liver cancer is one of the most common fatal types of cancer over the world. Conventional cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are costly and requires long-term commitment to be effective, which eventually leads to financial burden and suffering of patients and their families. Natural extracts originated from plants have been studied and exploited as pharmaceutical products or functional products supporting cancer treatments for years. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the antineoplastic activity of Aloe vera on Huh-7 cell line. The results showed that dimethyl sulfoxide extract from Aloe vera latex had cytotoxicity on Huh-7 cell line after (24-48) h of treatment with IC50 value at (160.72 ± 2.95) µg/mL and (156.41 ± 1.30) µg/mL respectively. Besides, the extract also inhibited the migration of cancer cells in (24-48) h treatment at minimum concentration of 100 µg/mL. Hence, Aloe vera latex extract is considered a potential anticancer agent against the proliferation of hepatic cancer cell

No full textVới hiện tượng nóng lên toàn cầu, các vấn đề về tính tiện nghi sinh khí hậu luôn được các kiến trúc sư quan tâm trong giải pháp thiết kế nhà ở, thể loại công trình cần rất nhiều tiện nghi khí hậu cho con người cư trú. Ở thành phố Vũng Tàu, môi trường nhiệt đới ven biển có đặc thù riêng, áp dụng phương pháp chiến lược sinh khí hậu hỗn hợp (Hybrid methods): kết hợp song hành công nghệ thụ động và công nghệ chủ động trong thiết kế kiến trúc nhằm tạo ra điều kiện tiện nghi sinh khí hậu nhiệt đới trong không gian sống và tiết kiệm năng lượng cho công trình. Nghiên cứu này đưa ra giải pháp thiết kế nhà ở (biệt thự) thích ứng khí hậu địa phương trong khu vực vùng ven biển, bên cạnh kiến nghị phát triển hướng nghiên cứu kiến trúc sinh khí hậu cho các dạng công trình khác
