The Business of Densification: Governing Land for Social Sustainability in Housing
Get PDF282 p.Affordable housing shortage and social exclusion have become severe societal problems across the globe. Increasing numbers of people are suffering from social eviction and displacement due to urban densification, modernization, rising rents, and intense housing commodification. Vulnerable resident groups – such as old-aged or households with children – who often live in old housing stocks planned to be densified, renovated, or upgraded with higher rents, are forced to leave the urban core centers because they can no longer afford to live in central locations, or because they experience unstable or insecure housing conditions. A scenario that is highly unsustainable. So far, studies on densification have mainly considered the process as technological, architectural, or design-based problem (e.g., Kyttä et al., 2013; Broitman & Koomen, 2015; Bibby et al., 2018). However, systematic knowledge on how to implement densification objectives sustainably – regarding economic, environmental, and social aspects – is still lacking. This book tackles this gap by analyzing densification from a governance perspective. Its point of departure is that densification per se does not necessarily lead to sustainable outcomes in terms of social inclusion, cohesion, or community stability. Rather, it politicizes densification by neglecting how the process is planned, implemented, and governed by the actors involved. The book applies an actors-centered neoinstitutionalist political ecology approach to reveal the specific objectives and strategies of actors involved, as well as the socio-political structures (i.e. rules. laws, and policies) that govern densification. Four Swiss in-depth empirical qualitative case studies (Zürich, Basel, Köniz, and Kloten) illustrate the political and legal conditions for success or failure for (un)sustainable implementations of densification. Ultimately, this book advises stakeholders, governments, urban practitioners, and academics on more effective, community-oriented, collective, and decommodified forms of governance to respond to the needs of the public at large rather than simply catering to private individuals and firms. Such governance initiatives entail active municipal land policy approaches outside a purely market-based investment logic that not only limit, but also work with property rights. Lá Dung thường được sử dụng trong y học cổ truyền để hỗ trợ hệ tiêu hóa, chữa các chứng khó tiêu và rối loạn kinh nguyệt. Nhiều nghiên cứu đã chỉ ra rằng dịch chiết từ lá Dung có nhiều hoạt tính hữu ích, bao gồm khả năng hạ lipid máu, chống oxy hóa, gây độc tế bào và hạ đường huyết. Nghiên cứu đã thu thập và xác định được mẫu thực vật lá Dung từ huyện Trà Bồng, tỉnh Quảng Ngãi là loài Symplococ cochinchinenis bằng phương pháp DNA. Nghiên cứu tối ưu hóa hoạt tính chống oxy hóa của lá Dung, được thực hiện bằng phương pháp khảo sát điều kiện chiết xuất.Các dung môi được sử dụng bao gồm nước, ethanol (EtOH) (50, 70 và 96) %. Ngoài ra, các điều kiện hỗ trợ như siêu âm và nhiệt độ cũng được xem xét. Kết quả cho thấy rằng chiết xuất bằng EtOH 70 % và siêu âm trong 20 phút tại 40oC tạo ra cao chiết có hoạt tính chống oxy hóa đánh giá bằng phương pháp bắt gốc tự do DPPH tốt nhất, C50 = (439,99 ± 14,58) µg/mL

Microencapsulation of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) anthocyanins: Effects of different carriers on selected physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities of spray-dried and freeze-dried powder
No full text1 p.Anthocyanins are abundant phytochemicals in nature that draw the public interest not only in their health effects, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. It also showed their function in providing foodstuffs with appealing and distinctive color. In this study, anthocyanins from hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) calyces were microencapsulated by spray drying and freeze drying techniques using a wide variety of carriers including maltodextrin (MD), gum Arabic (GA) and their binary blends with inulin (INU) and konjac glucomannan (KON). The results showed that freeze-dried hibiscus powder using KON as carrier had the highest phenolic, anthocyanin and antioxidant activity, followed by spray-dried and freeze-dried MD/KON samples, which indicated the role of KON in the effective retention of antioxidants during the drying process. In addition, the ferric and cupric ion reduction activity (FRAP and CUPRAC) of the spray- dried samples was significantly higher than those of the freeze-dried powder. However, in terms of encapsulation efficiency (EE) of anthocyanins, KON was shown to be ineffective in entrapping these compounds in microcapsules with the lowest EE of freeze-dried KON and spray-dried MD/KON of 43.6% and 55.4%, respectively. By contrast, MD/GA was the most effective carrier, retaining anthocyanins inside the carrier matrix and limiting their loss to the surface of the microcapsules in both spray-drying and freeze-drying methods (EE of 91.8% and 95.7%, respectively). In addition, the moisture content of spray-dried powder samples was significantly higher than that of lyophilized powders, and the solubility of all samples was above 94.1%. [6
Bioactive Compounds From Red Cabbage By Microwave-Assisted Extraction: Anthocyanins, Total Phenolic Compounds And The Antioxidant Activity
Get PDF1 pageRed cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. Capitata f. Rubra) is a vegetable known for its antioxidant activity and rich nutrient composition, especially anthocyanin compounds. The objective of this research is to determine optimal conditions to yield the highest contents of anthocyanin, polyphenol and antioxidant activity from red cabbage with the microwave-assisted extraction method (MAE). Anthocyanin was evaluated based on the pH-differential method, the Folin-Ciocalteu method was used to evaluate the polyphenol content, antioxidant activity based on the DPPH free radical scavenging method. The results showed that, extraction conditions consisting of ethanol concentration of 60o, solid to solvent ratio of 1:30, microwave power of 600W and microwave-assisted extraction time of 2 minutes, gave the highest anthocyanin content at 73.89 mg/L.The content of polyphenol reached 5244.88 mg/L and the antioxidant activity was 1739.4 μmol/L

No full text35tr.Rừng ngập mặn không chỉ là một yếu tố cảnh quan đặc sắc mà còn là hệ sinh thái giàu có bậc nhất của vùng bờ biển nhiệt đới. Rừng ngập mặn có vai trò quan trọng trong việc hạn chế tác hại của gió bão, nước triều dâng, bảo vệ đê chống bão biển, góp phân mở rộng đất liền. Rừng ngập mặn còn là nơi sinh sống và phát triển của nhiều loài hải sản có giá trị kinh tế cao và nhiều động vật trên cạn khác như chim, thú, bò sát,... Góp phần làm đa dạng hệ sinh thái, là nguồn tài nguyên phong phú đầy tiềm năng giúp phát triển kinh tế của người dân quanh khu vực. Nước ta có đường bờ biển kéo dài hơn 3200 km, do vậy các loại hình đất ngập nước ven bờ rất phong phú (như rừng ngập mặn, bãi triều lầy, vịnh, bán đảo, cửa sông, rạn san hô). Tuy nhiên những hoạt động khái thác quá mức và gây ô nhiễm nghiêm trọng trong những năm gần đây đã làm thu hẹp đáng kể hệ sinh thái này, mà rõ nhất là rừng ngập mặn. Trong đó, phải kể đến rừng ngập mặn Cần Giờ nơi đã được UNESCO công nhận là khu dự trữ sinh quyển thế giới đầu tiên ở Việt Nam. Do đó, việc quản lý khai thác rừng ngập mặn một cách hiệu quả và hợp lý là việc làm rất cần thiết và quan trọng. Đó là lý do cho đề tài sau đây "Trung tâm nghiên cứu và bảo tồn rừng ngập mặn Cần Giờ"
