OER Textbook Review for Human Inheritance - Chromosomes, Genes, and Traits - An Introduction to Genetics
This review evaluates the adoption and classroom integration of the open educational resource Chromosomes, Genes, and Traits: An Introduction to Genetics for NAS322: Human Inheritance. The instructor found the OER to be comprehensive, accurate, and well aligned with core human genetics concepts, though some content areas—particularly mutations and certain visual diagrams—required supplementation or revision. The flexibility of the OER allowed for significant reorganization, modular use, and removal of non-human examples to better suit course objectives. Integration into Brightspace improved accessibility, reduced student confusion around textbook requirements, and enhanced engagement through direct linking and built-in quizzes. Compared to the previously used commercial textbook, the OER offered superior accessibility, adaptability, and sustainability, while retaining opportunities for continued improvement and customization. The instructor\u27s experience with the OER honorarium and library support further reinforced the value of OER for reducing barriers and improving teaching effectiveness
OER Review for Business & Society – AI Generated OER Supplements and Open Pedagogy Assignment: Undergraduate Perspectives on Respectable Business
This review examines the integration of open educational resources and open pedagogy in Business & Society (MG 313), where students engaged in both AI‑supported research and authorship to create the open textbook Undergraduate Perspectives on Respectable Business. The project combined open access materials, AI‑generated readable adaptations of scholarly articles, and a redesigned Position Paper assignment that invited students to contribute their work to a public Pressbooks publication. These activities strengthened student engagement, improved comprehension of responsible business perspectives, and expanded access to course materials. The iterative use of OER, alongside guest instruction and library support, fostered deeper student ownership of learning and broadened the course’s impact through student‑authored contributions to an evolving open textbook
Works Entering the Public Domain in 2025
While January 1 is the day we celebrate New Year’s Day, it’s also another important holiday: Public Domain Day. At the beginning of the calendar year, copyright expires for certain works, and they enter the public domain (PD). Works in the PD are not protected by copyright and are freely available for public use.
This video highlights some of the most notable works to enter the PD in 2025
The Present and Future of AI: Ethical Issues and Research Opportunities
Healthcare is currently a fast-changing industry with AI and generative AI (GenAI) playing a prominent role in the transformation of clinical as well as managerial practices. Clinical practices involve AI to diagnose diseases and develop new drugs and compounds, while managerial practices concern AI-supporting processes such as billing patients and insurance companies, handling electronic medical records, and supporting remote connections with patients, increasingly using virtual and augmented reality. Yet, all these opportunities offered by AI come with challenges involving potential ethical issues, such as discrimination, bias, lack of accessibility, and privacy issues. In March 2024, we organized a panel with healthcare experts, attended by 48 academics and practitioners, and discussed the innovative power of AI, along with its ethical concerns and in doing so, we attempted to address some of these concerns. This panel report summarizes key findings and outlines a research agenda for IS scholars engaged in health-IT research specifically examining the new frontiers of AI and GenAI

Student Textbook Survey - Fall 2025 Executive Summary and Key Findings
Between September 29 and October 10, the Bentley University library conducted a student textbook survey. The purpose of the study was to gather data from students on textbook affordability. Students responded to 15-20 questions covering topics like how course materials influence their purchasing decisions, their total expenditures of course materials during Fall 2025, and the potential effects of these purchases. The library aimed to gather insights into: Students’ views on current textbook prices Openness to adopting more affordable educational resources on campus Likely responses and behaviors if faced with high-cost educational materials The impact of demographic factors related to textbook affordability for students Comparisons with findings from the Fall 2024 Student Textbook Survey
By gathering this data, the library hopes these findings will support the need to evaluate textbook affordability at the university, support the development of recommendations, and determine how no-cost materials and Open Educational Resources (OER) may be better integrated into courses in the future

Gen Z Sexual and Gender Fluidity in US Scripted Television
This essay addresses the rise in sexual and gender-fluid characters in scripted US television targeting the Gen Z audience (born 1997–2012), based on their moniker as the “queerest” generation, with over 20% of younger US and international respondents identifying as LGBTQ in polls, the majority as sexually fluid (bi/pansexual) or non-binary (genderfluid/genderqueer). By analyzing six series (2019–2023) marketed as “authentically” Gen Z, I argue this shift invests in Gen Z’s “hip” attitude towards such fluidity the same way Caldwell argues that 1990’s diversification of the televisual audience produced a “programming agenda…that cultivates and rewards distinction in ethnic, racial, and class terms” (2020, p. 376). Caldwell’s (2020) theory of boutique programming, described as “a selective, signature world where artistic sensitivity went hand in hand with social relevance and viewer discrimination” (p. 164), exposes how these recent series rely on “visual flourishes…and narrative embellishments” (p. 377) but move beyond cinematic techniques by combining palatial settings and extravagant lifestyles with shockingly explicit sexual situations. Caldwell’s (2020, p. 377) assertion that “stardom and gossip defeat the dramatic obligation or need for narrative coherence” is reflected in the 21st century’s reliance on social media promotions with hypersexual imagery and expensive designer outfits for its high school-age characters and an entertainment media which highlights their “edgy,” “sexy,” “explicit,” and “provocative” content. Therefore, I argue that, like Caldwell, we should avoid “overestimat[ing] the political value” (2020, p. 376) of these presentations when these non-binary identities are shown as inaccessible, depoliticized, and hypersexualized, which maintains rather than challenges entrenched binary ideals of gender and sexuality
