The Next Generation Technology for your Home Network

    Get PDF
A student presentation to the Fall 2021 Student Research and Creative Works SymposiumThe internet has become a part of everyone’s lives to the point that everything we do, we make use of the internet in some way. With the constant use of the internet, having a decent home Wi-Fi network with the average download speeds of 12 to 25 megabits per second (Mbps) is simply not enough. Even if a home has 300 Mbps, the average home router is becoming “not enough” when the number of devices connected to the router is added to the equation. The average number of devices is roughly 10 or more devices per household, including smartphones and tablets which will increase even further with Smart Home devices (for example: smart switches, lightbulbs, doorbell cameras, security cameras). With the constant growth of devices that demand and rely on internet speeds, the average home Wi-Fi network also must improve

Everyday Mathematic Activities and Student Comprehension

    Get PDF
A student presentation to the Fall 2021 Student Research and Creative Works SymposiumYoung children learn math concepts from examining the world around them. In fact for the first five years of life, children construct math knowledge and concepts through everyday activities with parents and caregivers. Daily activities like lunch time can be a great opportunity for children to practice and get hands-on experience with math concepts such as number sense, shape identification, classification, and pattern recognition. (Geist 2008) One research approach to increase students comprehension in math is the Everyday Mathematics approach. According to this approach “If children are introduced to abstract concepts before they have a solid basis for understanding those concepts, they tend to resort to memorization and rote learning, which is not a solid foundation for further learning. Everyday Mathematics focuses on first developing student’s understanding of concepts through: Real world examples and concrete objects (manipulatives), Pictorial representations, and Discussion of ideas and method” (uchicago.edu)

I speak, WE speak, YOU speak MATH

A student presentation to the Fall 2021 Student Research and Creative Works SymposiumThe purpose of this study is to treat math as a language. Educational psychologists believe that learning mathematics requires a strong vocabulary base, fluency and proficiency with numbers, symbols, words, and diagrams; and comprehension skills (Riccomini, 2015). Research studies have shown that teachers can successfully achieve these requirements by teaching mathematics using second language acquisition strategie
