Introduction & Research Question 
- Measurement 
- The best method of research for this topic will be quantitative research.  
- Numerical data will be collected and transform to showcase either a 
increase or decrease of GDP regarding the economy.  
- Literature review from several sources will be examined.  
- Data Collection 
- Data collection will mainly be obtained online from government 
websites that provide gross domestic product (GDP) information.  
- Prior to post completion of the rail system.  
- Census data will be collected to measure utilization. 
- Cross-comparison of other states will reviewed post-completion.  
- Comparative and historical research.  
1.Article number one discusses that one of the major problems in 
Hawai’i is to diminish the dependency of oil and fossil fuels. 
Technology innovation, such as the rail for example, may reduce this 
usage and reinvigorate the economy. 
2.Article two discusses research behind light rail transit (LRT) systems 
and their positive effects towards the employment market. Other 
states are included within this research and they had benefit from 
these investments. 
3.Article three discusses the historical importance of rail systems 
during times of economy strain. The great recession that took place 
from 2007 to 2009 resulted in favoritism in areas within the vicinity of 
LRT systems.
4.Article number four discusses the overall improvement of economic 
factors, such as housing prices, public health, and local businesses 
due to the increase of transportation via LRT.
5.Article five discusses that high speed rail systems is a good 
investment to benefit the tourism industry and traffic congestion 
reduction. Though, this research article mentions the disadvantages, 
such as less hotel stays by tourist and other transportation 
businesses will suffer. 
6.Article six discusses the utilization of rail systems from local 
consumers, easy transportation for air travelers, and revival of urban 
neighborhoods. Though, the fuel industry will suffer due to the 
decreased utilization of personal-owned vehicles. 
Research Design & Data Collection 
- Hawai’i will see a boost in economy once the Honolulu Rail 
Project is completed.  
- Consensus of research points towards traffic congestion 
reduction due to additional sources of transportation. 
- Final thoughts 
- Based on this research regarding the topic, the investment 
towards the Honolulu Rail Project will enable Hawai’i to boost 
its economy once it has reached completion.  
- Creation of jobs, tourism utilization, and alleviation of traffic 
congestion.

rail. 
- Tourist funding.  
- Steel wheels highly supported by local government rather than magnetic 
rails.

improve and overall utilization will be a success.
