Those five words may have ended 
up having a huge impact on Agnes 
Scott College. 
They were spoken by an Agnes 
Scott alumna, whose son happened to 
be dating Beth Daniel (now Holder). 
In 1 978, Holder was a senior at 
Marietta High School, planning to 
attend Auburn University, where her 
parents had gone, when her 
boyfriend's mother encouraged her to 
visit her alma mater. So "as a favor," 
Holder came down to Decatur to 
attend Prospective Students'Weekend 
at Agnes Scott. That was all it took. 
"It really is a testament to the 
college that once you get on campus 
and spend time with students and 
experience campus life and all that 
Agnes Scott has to offer, you're likely 
to go," says Holder. "And it was a 
turning point for me." 
It's a good thing for the entire 
Agnes Scott community that Beth 
Daniel Holder chose to spend her 
college years here. Later in life, she 
would be asked to return to her alma 
mater in a new role - as a trustee. 
Holder served 13 yearn on the 
Board of Trustees, five of them as 
chair, before stepping down last June. 
It was a remarkable era in Agnes 
Scott's history, marked by a 
transformational curricular change, a 
monumental fundraising campaign 
and a successful presidential search. 
Not that she would take any credit 
for these achievements. Holder will 
be the first to tell you it was all a team 
effort, with many people sharing 
ideas and executing plans for the 
good of the college. But others say 
her role and impact are unmistakable. 
By maintaining strategic focus and 
applying a tireless energy, Holder led 
by example and became a motivating 
force. And, she leaves the college in a 
good place. 
"Beth has been amazing," says 
Agnes Scott President Leocadia I. Zak. 
"She is a great connector, whether it's 
connecting people to the college by 
bringing in new trustees or donors or 
connecting us to the latest ideas 
through her vision for the college." 
"The college is enjoying great 
success," says Harriet M. King '64, 
trustee emerita and former board 
chair. "It has financial stability, new 
leadership and an impressive profile 
through SUMMIT. Beth has been 
remarkably successful." 
RECONNECTING WITH 
AGNES SCOTT 
As a student, Holder majored in 
economics and loved the small class 
sizes, which allowed students to 
achieve success and really get to know 
their professors. 
"You didn't fall through the cracks," 
Holder says. "It allowed everyone to 
flourish and feel supported." 
Some of her favorite memories of 
her time at Agnes Scott include 
showing up to finals in her pajamas, 
piling on a single bed with her friends 
and watching "Days of Our Lives" 
and working in the admissions office 
where she gave tours to prospective 
students. After graduation, she went 
into the banking industry and married 
her husband, Thomas M. Holder. She 
left Agnes Scott behind, until she got 
a phone call - 24 years later. 
Elizabeth Kiss, president of the 
college from 2006 to 2018, set up a 
meeting with Holder to explore her 
interest in joining the Board of 
Trustees. Holder had some experience; 
she had served as chair for the Atlanta 
Ballet, and the Holders were well 
known for their philanthropy. What 
Kiss learned in the meeting was that it 
was important to Holder to not just be 
a trustee, but to be able to make a real 
contribution to the board and to the 
college. So when the two met, it was a 
mutual vetting process. 
"It was just a wonderful recruitment 
conversation," recalls Kiss, who now

serves as warden of Rhodes House 
and the chief executive officer of 
the Rhodes Trust. "I remember 
immediately seeing incredible strategic 
intelligence and focus. It was very 
clear from the beginning that this was 
a woman who once she committed, 
was all in. She cared deeply for Agnes 
Scott and wanted to make sure she 
could make a difference as a trustee. I 
was so impressed." 
Apparently Kiss made a good case. 
"It's hard to say 'no' to Elizabeth 
Kiss," Holder says. "She's a very 
persuasive person. I liked her and I 
wanted to be a part of what she was 
leading, and it happened to be my 
alma mater. What she was doing and 
the impact the college was having 
made me want to get more involved. 
I also thought that learning about 
higher education and the academic 
community would be very interesting 
and fulfilling." 
Holder joined the board on July 1, 
2008. Not even a year into her tenure, 
Holder - along with fellow Trustee 
Elizabeth R. Jones '73 and then board 
chair Clyde Tuggle - was asked to 
co-chair "The Greatness Before Us" 
campaign. With a lofty goal of $100 
million, it was Agnes Scott College's 
largest comprehensive campaign to 
date. The trio worked tirelessly for six 
years and not only met the goal, but 
blew past it by raising an 
unprecedented $115.9 million. 
"Beth was instrumental in helping 
us reach that goal," says Jones. "She is 
a natural when it comes to fundraising. 
She was willing to contact and or meet 
with anyone she thought might 
respond positively to our campaign. 
She was a perfect ambassador for 
Agnes Scott as she is informed and 
passionate about the college." 
"The best part about Beth is that 
she creates excitement about doing 
good work for the college," adds 
Trustee Loucy Hay '87. "She has the 
ability to communicate effectively 
about Agnes Scott's mission in a way 
that inspires people to want to be a 
part of it. She's looking out for the 
best interest of Agnes Scott in 
connecting people and building 
relationships that benefit the college." 
TAKING AGNES SCOTT 
TO THE SUMMIT 
In 2012, it became apparent to Kiss 
and to the board that in order for 
Agnes Scott to be strong and 
sustainable in the future, they needed 
to raise the college's profile to 
applicants and increase enrollment. 
That called for what Kiss calls "a big 
idea." After months of planning and 
conversations, the administration, 
board and faculty created SUMMIT, 
an initiative that transformed the 
curriculum to focus on global 
learning and leadership development. 
The board endorsed SUMMIT, 
and approved the funding it would 
take to implement and sustain it, and 
launched it in fall 2015. 
"Beth was an integral part of the 
architecture of SUMMIT," says 
Tuggle. "We went through tricky times 
getting there, but she was right in the 
middle of it, serving as the bridge 
between the board, the president and 
the faculty. She had street credibility 
because she was a graduate and she 
was a woman. I give her a tremendous 
amount of credit for getting us 
through the journey to SUMMIT. It 
was not an easy journey." 
The implementation of SUMMIT 
had the positive effect that it intended. 
Enrollment grew the first year it was 
in place and has continued to grow 
each year. It also led to Agnes Scott 
being ranked # 1 Most Innovative 
College by U.S. News for four 
consecutive years.

LEADING A TRANSITION 
In 2016, when Holder replaced Tuggle 
as board chair, she knew that she was 
going to have to lead the effort to find 
the ninth president of Agnes Scott as 
Elizabeth Kiss made plans to move 
on. In her innate ability to consider 
every detail, Holder made sure the 
board was educated on the process, 
appointed a search committee and 
two trustees to lead it and helped vet a 
search firm. 
"She has really excellent judgement," 
says Trustee Portia 0. Morrison '66, 
who served as vice chair of the board 
from 2012 to 2020. "She has the 
ability to see the big picture. She can 
spot important issues - now and in 
the future. But at the same time, she 
has incredible attention to detail. She 
spots the little things that make a big 
difference. The presidential search 
was an example of that." 
Kiss, who watched from the 
sidelines as the college picked her 
successor, agrees. 
"She was incredibly consultative, 
and worked to make sure the search 
committee was diverse," says Kiss. "I 
saw how completely focused she was 
on which candidates would be best 
suited to take SUMMIT and Agnes 
Scott to the next level. She put so 
much effort and thought into that 
search and went beyond the elements 
of a typical search." 
In January 2018, Zak was chosen to 
lead Agnes Scott. But Holder's job 
did not stop there. Once the new 
president was in place, Holder took it 
upon herself to introduce her to 
important and influential leaders in 
the community who would support 
her and benefit the college. After all, 
Zak was new to the South, having 
moved from Washington, D.C., and 
new to the world of academia. 
"She was phenomenal," Zak says. "I 
was a new college president, and Beth 
took the time to personally introduce 
me to many people around Atlanta. 
Those introductions were tremendous 
in helping me get to know the city and 
many of its leaders in the earliest days 
of my administration." 
SAYING GOODBYE 
It's ironic to think that Beth Holder 
didn't even plan to attend Agnes 
Scott, and if she hadn't come to 
Prospective Students'Weekend that 
fall in 1978, the college may never 
have benefitted from all she has to 
offer. Those who know her use many 
accolades to describe her, but she 
personifies one: humility. And that is 
reflected in what she thinks her 
impact has been on the college. 
"We accomplished a lot over 13 
years and I'm proud of all we did," 
Holder says. "The students we serve 
and the success they are having as 
leaders in our global society is what 
I'm most proud of. I was a cog in a 
wheel of great leadership and a lot of 
talented people on the board." 
Her friend Libby Jones says it a 
little more strongly. 
"I absolutely believe that at the end 
of Beth's time on the board, she left 
the college in a much improved place," 
Jones says. "So much happened 
during her tenure and from the very 
beginning, she had an impact." 
"Beth is very analytical," adds 
Elizabeth H. Noe '86, who served as 
vice chair under Holder and became 
chair in July. "She is able to see all 
sides of an issue, listens to the varying 
points of view and instills confidence 
in all involved that she has a thorough 
understanding of, and has considered, 
the impact of any decision she makes. 
She always puts the good of the 
college first while thinking ahead to 
what's down the road. These are all 
characteristics of a great leader, which 
is what Beth has been for the college."

What you must do before you report to campus for the first time to work: 
 
• Get a COVID viral test. It must be a PCR test which commonly is given at testing sites. 
o You should have the test 7-10 days before reporting to work on campus. Even if you 
plan to only be on campus one day a week, you must get a test. 
• Report your COVID test result using the testing attestation form found here.

The human body can withstand an 
incredible amount of mistreatment; it 
can continue to function with elevat- 
ed cholesterol and blood pressure, 
blocked arteries, or spinal disc her- 
niations. Ill-health can occur sudden- 
ly, the result of a traumatic event, or 
it could be the consequence of years 
of eating poorly, sleeping too little, or 
imbibing too much. One might even 
live with chronic ailments in such a way 
that they forget what it felt like or what 
they could do when their body was in 
top form. Like the body, the land can 
function in some capacity after years 
of abuse and, clouded by nostalgia 
and economic pressures, one might 
forget exactly how the land once 
played a vibrant role in an ecosystem 
that existed long before humans in- 
tervened. Like our health, the destruc- 
tion of the landscape can occur over 
time, in a subtle way; it is not always a 
bulldozer felling the rainforest, creat- 
ing a perfect line between the natural 
world and the palm oil farm; rather, 
after years of suffocating the land, the 
outcome can be equally harmful, par- 
ticularly when the devastation occurs 
in one's backyard by a company that 
claims it is helping the community, 
while ignoring the true effects of their 
profit. For oil miners working in Bore- 
al Forest in Alberta, Canada, the push 
and pull of the health of themselves 
and the land with the economic ben- 
efit of an industry that can extract this 
natural resource for another 200 years 
at its current rate of production, ecol- 
ogist Paul Shepard's words ring true: 
" ... why should we tolerate a diet of 
weak poisons, a home in insipid sur- 
roundings, a circle of acquaintances 
who are not quite our enemies, the 
noise of motors with just enough relief 
to prevent insanity? who would want 
to live in a world which is just not quite 
fatal?" 
Situated at the center of an essay such 
as this one is the oil industry: a ma- 
jor economic contributor, supplying 
cheap barrels, providing lots of jobs, 
but also generating vast amounts of 
waste that cause environmental dev- 
astation to the land and to human 
and animal populations. This is the vi- 
sual story Shannon Collis sets out to 
expose in Strata, an installation that 
includes sculptural projections and 
digital works that explore the Atha- 
basca oil sands, comprising almost 
55,000 square miles, roughly the 

size of Illinois, and the Syncrude Oil Plant 
where the oil is extracted from the sand. 
Collis demonstrates the ways in which the 
intrusion of these industrial complexes has 
radically transformed-and caused long- 
term damage to-the diverse ecology, the 
local community, and the economy. The 
title hints at geological and social strata 
which are further reflected in the multi- 
screen sculptural projection with surround 
sound-literal layers that provoke visitors 
to contemplate the human mark on the 
land in this moment of unparalleled envi- 
ronmental pressure. 
In the oil sands bitumen coats each grain 
of sand, which is mined and washed with 
hot water to separate the oil at great ex- 
pense to the environment. The last two de- 
cades have seen an increase in oil sands 
production as it has finally become prof- 
itable, more than doubling over the last 
decade and a half, while conventional oil 
production has remained constant. Mining 
oil in this way adversely impacts the envi- 
ronment. In addition to deforestation, the 
tailing ponds, which hold the wastewater 
and sand after the bitumen has been extracted, contain 
toxins that contaminate the Athabasca River and also 
release more greenhouse gases than other forms of oil 
production because of the energy used to separate the 
oil from the sand. To facilitate the increase in produc- 
tion, TC Energy attempted to construct the Keystone 
XL pipeline to transport oil across the United States, 
the largest importer of oil from Canada (ten percent 
of its daily consumption comes from the Athabasca oil 
sands). While three phases of construction, amounting 
to nearly 3,000 miles of pipeline were completed, phase 
four, consisting of laying new pipeline from Canada to 
Nebraska was subject to political ping pong before the 
Biden administration denied a permit amid protests, in- 
cluding, most famously, at Standing Rock, and the com- 
pany canceled the project. Amid the destruction, how 
do we restore the land and the community to health? 
As a Canadian artist living in the United States, Collis 
began creating Strata out of an interest to understand 
how this industry shapes the place she grew up and how 
to begin to heal the wounds it has caused. In search 
of the proper medicine, she asks what sound does the 
earth make? What sound does the earth being punc- 
tured make? Collis uses the method of deep listening as 
it was developed by the American composer and accor- 
dion player Pauline Oliveros to heighten her ability to 
hear and to see. Deep listening is much like close looking, 
the goal of which is to help one truly see what is in front 
of them, preventing them from being diverted by what 
they think they see or they think should be there. In Strata, 
the low hum of the twin engine plane used to capture the 
raw footage is so integrated into the installation that when 
the viewers close their eyes, they may still see the layers 
of landscape passing in front of them-a birds-eye-view 
woven with scenes filmed from a moving truck along the 
Athabasca River, through Boreal Forest, and across Fort 
McMurray, attempting to capture the scale of the Athabas- 
ca oil sands. Art installations that envelop the viewer have 
the potential to make them more aware of the space they 
inhabit. Collis's images show the lacerations on the surface 
of the land, but Strata alludes to the wounds that also exist 
out of sight, below the ground. Learning to listen deeply 
helps all of us hear the sounds of the world and what exists 
below the surface. Collis's profound research and intense 
layering of sound and image creates a new, hyper-reality, 
one that allows the viewer to recognize and connect to 
what is happening, which is the first step to restore the 
health of the land and community. •

COVID-19 Testing at Agnes Scott College 
 
 
How did Agnes Scott formulate the testing strategy that is being used? 
Agnes Scott is following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and the American 
College Health Association in formulating the most appropriate strategy for campus 
testing. 
When and how often will testing be conducted? 
Students are required to complete entry testing at the beginning of the semester in order 
to gain access to the campus. Additionally, every two weeks, students living in residence 
halls and/or requesting access to campus activities and services are required to complete 
a COVID-19 test. After this initial testing, all students are instructed to track symptoms 
through the Medicat app. Students will receive green, orange or red icons depending on 
their symptoms and exposure. 
Symptomatic students and their contacts will be tested on an as needed basis. 
What type of COVID-19 testing will be conducted on campus? 
Agnes Scott is partnering with Covid Check Colorado to provide testing with PCR tests, 
which are accurate and do not have a high rate of false negatives as occur with antigen 
testing. 
Will I be charged for getting tested? 
The lab cost itself is billed to the student’s insurance. If the student does not have 
insurance, the cost will be billed to the COVID-19 federal test fund. No student will be 
charged for this testing. 
How is the test performed? 
The test is performed by inserting a nasal swab into the nose. In the future, Covid Check 
Colorado hopes to offer saliva testing. 
What is the point of getting tested if I’m not having any symptoms? 
Since some individuals spread the COVID virus while not having any symptoms, testing of 
individuals who are not having symptoms is important to locate people on campus who 
may be spreading Covid while they remain asymptomatic. 
How often will I have to be tested if I live in a residence hall? 
To promote a safe and healthy campus environment, all asymptomatic students who live 
in residence halls are required to have a COVID-19 PCR test every two weeks. Students 
who are having symptoms will be tested as needed. The testing will take place outside at 
the Wellness Center.  
I live off-campus. Does that mean that I don’t have to be tested? 
Testing is required for any student to have access to any on-campus activity, service or 
program. So, you must be tested in order to utilize the library or the computer lab, for 
example. 
 
 
 
 
 
I just had a Covid test at an off-campus testing site. Can I just provide a copy of 
that test?  
Only PCR and antigen testing are considered acceptable tests. Antibody tests are not 
reliable and therefore are not acceptable. Lab documentation of a negative PCR or 
antigen test within a  week of required testing will be accepted, as long as you have not 
developed symptoms since you took that test. If new symptoms have developed since 
the test results, the test should be repeated. 
I had a positive Covid test less than 90 days ago. Do I need to continue to be tested? 
If you have had a positive test in the last 90 days then you should not be retested. You 
should submit proof of your previous diagnosis through the Wellness Center student 
portal. Lab documentation noting positive results of a PCR test will be accepted. 
As a student, how will I know when I have been scheduled for testing? 
When you are due to be tested, you will receive an email with instructions on how to self-schedule 
and register at www.primarybio.com. When you come to the Wellness Center to be tested at your 
scheduled time, as long as you have pre-registered, you don't need to bring anything. 
How long will it take to receive my test results? 
Tests are shipped to the lab at the end of each business day. Typically, PrimaryBio will 
email or text your test results to you within two to three business days. 
What if my roommate took her test the same day as me and they have received 
their results but I have not received mine? 
This is not a cause for concern as the lab may not process the tests in the exact order in 
which the specimens were taken. Make sure that you check the email account that you 
used to register and be sure to check your spam folder. If you did not consent at the 
end of the test then this could prevent you from receiving your results. If it has been 
more than four days since you took your test, please contact the Wellness Center. 
How long will testing take? 
Testing will generally take from 10 to 30 minutes. If you have trouble standing for 
periods of up to thirty minutes, you will be able to request a chair. If you have other 
accessibility concerns, please contact rmorgan@agnesscott.edu. It is important that you 
arrive at your scheduled appointment time as this will help manage wait times and will 
facilitate social distancing. If you do miss your appointment time, it is very important 
that you call the Wellness Center immediately to reschedule. 
What will happen if I don’t come to take my test when scheduled? 
Students who fail to complete initial and twice monthly screening tests will not be 
allowed on campus and will continue to display a red icon through Medicat. Again, you 
should call the Wellness Center right away if you are unable to keep your appointment 
for any reason.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
What do I do if my test comes back with a positive result? 
If you receive a positive test result, you should go directly to your residence hall room. 
You should avoid contact with others and be sure to wear a mask at all times. If you 
have a roommate, it will be essential that you maintain a distance of six feet between 
you and your roommate. It is especially important that you avoid anyone who is 
immune-compromised. 
Student Health Services and our student support team will be in contact to provide you 
with information as to what should happen next and help you determine the best place to 
isolate. 
I am a minor. Does this have any effect on the testing process? 
If you are under age 18, the College will need your guardian’s written or electronic 
consent. Please check the Wellness Center student portal for the consent form. If your 
parent or guardian is unable to complete the electronic form, they may download the 
HIPPA Authorization to Disclose Protected Health Information form and submit it to the 
Wellness Center. This process only needs to be completed once, so if you completed this 
process during move-in you do not need to do it again. 
Who has the option to opt out of testing? 
There are several reasons why a student might be allowed to opt out of testing. The 
reasons include: 
 if you have a disability that would preclude you from having the test done, 
 if you are currently sick and unable to get to the testing facility, 
 if you have been ordered by a public official or health provider to maintain a 
quarantine or self-isolation 
 if you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days. 
 
Please note that if you are currently sick, you should contact the Wellness Center to 
schedule a telehealth appointment. 
 
What if I don’t understand my results or if I have questions?

Goal
The Agnes Scott College Employee Guidelines for Working on Campus has been developed by the 
college’s Presidential COVID-19 Task Force and associated subgroups to remind our community 
of the health and safety guidelines and protocols as we return to in-person instruction and college 
operations. Our goal is to create both a safe transition back to campus and a positive experience for 
the Agnes Scott community.
These guidelines reflect our best approximation of a plan for how campus will operate in compliance 
with federal, state and local guidelines in the coming academic year. It is purposely designed with 
flexibility in mind so that we can quickly adapt to the wide-ranging impact of COVID-19. The col-
lege will amend our approaches as needed and will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our 
campus community members in our decision-making processes.
Key GuidinG StrateGieS
These guidelines will change in response to evolving health authority guidance and effective 
practices shared by other organizations, including area colleges and universities. The Presiden-
tial COVID-19 Task Force agrees with the guidance from health organizations and recommends 
that the campus reopening adhere to best practices for risk-mitigation measures. As such, Agnes 
Scott requires that all members of the campus community—students, faculty, staff—be vaccinat-
ed against COVID-19 for the fall 2021 semester. This decision was guided by our commitment 
to well-being for all members of our community and a review of the science and data provided 
by public health experts. Vaccination against COVID-19 will play a critical part in ensuring our 
campus community’s health and safety. Verification of your vaccination status will be required 
before returning to the campus beginning in August and must be submitted through the Medi-
cat portal.
As we look to this academic year, we know that in order for the college to continue to deliver 
an engaged residential student experience, maintain a collaborative campus community and 
support our students, most of us will be required to work on campus. Based on these needs, we 
returned to our standing policy for telework, beginning August 2, 2021. This policy can be found 
in the Employee Handbook, section 2.18. Remote work arrangements may be considered as long 
as departmental needs, productivity standards and quality of services to members of the campus 
community are met. 
Employees who seek to continue to telework after August 2, 2021, must complete the Agnes 
Scott College Telework Agreement. The agreement must be approved by the direct supervisor 
and submitted to the Office of People and Culture (P&C), formerly Human Resources. All su-
pervisors must seek final approval from their vice presidents before sending the completed forms 
to P&C. 
For the safety of others, Agnes Scott employees who exhibit symptoms (cdc.gov/coronavi-
rus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html) or test positive for COVID-19 should not return 
to campus until they have clearance from a health care provider and submit documentation to P&C.

Personal Safety Practices
 • Wear a face covering at all times indoors (except when alone in private spaces). Masks are 
optional outside for vaccinated individuals. Unvaccinated employees (who must have been 
approved for an exemption) and unvaccinated visitors must wear masks at all times.
 • The face covering is meant to protect other people in case you are infected. There is a chance 
that even vaccinated people could spread COVID-19 even if they do not feel sick.
 • Hand-sanitizing stations will be available throughout college buildings.
 • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
 • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, and put distance between yourself and others. 
Stay at least 6 feet (about two arms’ lengths) from other people. Remember that some people 
without symptoms may be able to spread the virus.
 • Avoid shaking hands.
 • Stay home if you are sick or are awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Employees
 • In accordance with Agnes Scott College’s duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is 
free of known hazards, the college requires COVID-19 vaccination for all members of the 
campus community. This includes all employees, unless a medical or religious exemption is 
approved.
 • For the safety of others, Agnes Scott employees who exhibit symptoms or test positive for 
COVID-19 should not return to campus until they have clearance from a health care provider 
and submit documentation to the Office of People and Culture.
 • Employees must adhere to all college, state and national guidelines regarding personal health 
responsibility.
 • Face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected 
but does not have symptoms. Healthy hand hygiene behaviors will be required.
 • Unvaccinated employees with exemptions may be subject to additional precautionary restric-
tions.
 • Employees who need personal protective equipment should contact the Office of Facilities.
Testing
 • Community members who are unable to be vaccinated for medical or religious reasons will be 
tested weekly through the Wellness Center or at a testing site of their choice.
 • Routine, asymptomatic testing for vaccinated employees will occur. The implementation plan is 
being developed.
 • Any employee with a positive test result must be reported to the Office of People and Culture 
for contact tracing purposes.
 • Anyone who is not fully vaccinated, is immunocompromised or taking immunosuppressive 
medications, or is arriving to campus from an area of high viral transmission must have a nega-
tive antigen or PCR test within three days of arriving to campus. 
 • Testing is available to anyone who asks to be tested, whether or not the individual displays symptoms.

If you feel you have been exposed and would like to be tested, regardless of your vaccination status, 
you may reach out to the Wellness Center to schedule an appointment at any time via email at well-
nesscenter@agnesscott.edu.
Health Self-Screening Procedures
All employees are required to perform a health self-screening each day prior to coming to the 
office, inclusive of:
 • Observing any symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, 
repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and loss of taste or smell. 
 • Due to campus-wide immunization, employees who are vaccinated will no longer need to per-
form daily symptom tracking through Medicat. However, unvaccinated individuals approved 
for an exemption must still complete the daily symptom tracker.
 • Employees should consult with their health care provider regarding existing personal health 
conditions, and they may seek temporary COVID-19 workplace accommodation if advised or 
recommended by a medical provider. 
If an Employee Tests Positive or Is Exposed To COVID-19 
Employees who test positive for COVID-19 or believe they have been exposed should consult with 
their health care provider and follow the current CDC guidelines for quarantine (exposure) or isola-
tion (positive test):
 • If you are vaccinated and have tested positive for COVID-19, you should isolate at home for 
10 days and follow the care guidance of your health care provider. To be released from isola-
tion, you should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication and have improvement 
of symptoms. 
 • If you are vaccinated and have been exposed by close contact with someone with COVID-19, 
you do not need to quarantine but should continue to wear a mask at all times when indoors, 
and you should get tested 3-5 days after your exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms.  You 
should isolate for 10 days if your test result is positive. 
 • If you have had close contact with someone with COVID-19, and you are not fully vaccinated 
or are immunocompromised, you should quarantine at home and may return to work after 
day seven (7) with a negative COVID-19 test result on day five (5) or later.

Case Management and Contact Tracing
The college has developed appropriate protocols for case management and contact tracing for break-
through cases that may occur on campus. All positive cases of COVID-19 on campus will be report-
ed to the DeKalb County Board of Health and promptly traced by trained public health contact 
tracers from public health agencies and/or from our campus. Immediate actions to isolate reported 
infected individuals will be implemented.

Travel
College-sponsored travel in the United States for faculty and staff is allowed upon approval by divi-
sional vice presidents. If you travel, we ask that you monitor your health and get tested if symptoms 
develop.
Visitors and Vendors
 • Guests (e.g., contractors) are allowed only with explicit invitation and are expected to abide 
by all campus and building-specific protocols.
 • All outside contractors performing services on campus that bring them into contact with stu-
dents, faculty, staff or campus visitors must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
 • Contractors shall hold their employees to the same standards applied to college employees.
 • Any contract worker who is sick or with symptoms is not permitted to perform work on cam-
pus.
 • Outside guests and vendors must notify the Agnes Scott department they are visiting or work-
ing for immediately if any of their workers who have performed work on campus within the 
previous 14 days have been diagnosed with any infectious illness. This should be an adden-
dum to contracts and/or communications. 
 • All visitors will follow the guidance of the college regarding physical distancing and face 
coverings. Fully vaccinated visitors are not required to wear a mask when outdoors, but all 
visitors and vendors will be required to wear face coverings when inside. 
 • All visitors to classrooms must be vaccinated and approved by the Dean of College’s office 
prior to their visit.
PlaCeS
General Guidelines
 • Physical distance at least six feet when possible.
 • Face coverings must be worn when indoors except when alone in a private space.
 • In the classroom setting, fully vaccinated faculty/instructors have an option to forgo the wear-
ing of a mask ONLY when actively lecturing. However, a protective barrier or a face shield 
must be worn. 
 • Unvaccinated faculty/instructors approved for an exemption by the college must wear a mask 
at all times.
 • Regularly wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer.
 • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow. 
Sanitizing
The college’s custodial staff will operate in accordance with cleaning and disinfection protocols 
recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, using Environmental Protec-
tion Agency-approved products that are effective against the COVID-19 virus. Personnel will disin-
fect high-touch surfaces. These high-touch surfaces include, but are not limited to, entryway touch

points, doorknobs, water fountains, elevator panels/call buttons, stairwell handrails and restroom 
fixtures (sinks, faucets, toilets, towel dispensers, etc.).
Students and employees will have access to disposable sanitizing wipes located in each classroom to 
disinfect chairs and workspaces. Hand-sanitizing stations are located in key areas within all campus 
buildings (near entryways, in hallways and restrooms on each floor of every campus building, and 
inside most classrooms).
Classrooms
With the vaccination requirement, class spacing and class size have been returned to full capacity. 
Please adhere to all COVID-19 signage instructions.
Computer Labs
Computer labs will be sanitized twice daily by custodial staff. Labs are equipped with sanitizing 
wipes and hand sanitizer.
Office Spaces
The following procedures are required by all staff while on campus:
 • Individuals may remove face coverings when in private office space alone. Otherwise, a face 
covering must be worn at all times indoors.
 • Where possible, we encourage physical distancing.
Student Residential Facilities
Residence hall students will be required to:
 • Be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 upon arrival. Any student arriving unvaccinated will be 
tested and vaccinated upon arrival. Students who refuse to be vaccinated and are not eligi-
ble for an exemption will be asked to leave campus, and granted an administrative Leave of 
Absence.
 • Follow all safety protocols in place, including the wearing of face coverings, proper hygiene 
practices and regularly cleaning their living spaces.
 • Adhere to the posted limits on the number of people permitted in community areas such as 
laundry rooms, study lounges, residence hall kitchens, dining halls, retail venues and learning 
environments.
 • Report symptoms immediately to the Agnes Scott Wellness Center when experiencing any 
symptoms related to COVID-19.
 • Follow the staggered move-in and move-out schedules that will have an appointment process 
implemented. Students will be limited to two people permitted to enter the residence hall 
with them to assist.
 • Abide by the college’s housing pandemic plan for isolation of primary exposures and quaran-
tine of COVID-19-positive students in a separate residence hall designated for this purpose 
when possible.
Additional cleaning schedules will be executed for all public areas and restrooms in the residence 
halls.

Restrooms and Elevators
All individuals should be wearing face coverings when using the restroom or riding the elevators. 
Please wash your hands thoroughly afterward to reduce germs.
Campus Recreation
 • While still providing virtual alternatives, fitness classes such as Zumba and Yoga, when resumed, 
will have limited capacity for appropriate physical distancing.
 • In collaboration with the library and the Center for Sustainability offices, the Bike Program will 
provide students with necessary items to ensure that each bike is sanitized before and after use. 
 • Tennis and swim clinics will follow related COVID-19 guidelines and guidelines set forth by 
Athletics for utilizing spaces within Woodruff gymnasium.
PuBliC SPaCeS
Meeting Facilities
 • All attendees should wear a mask or face covering during meetings and keep a minimum of six 
feet of distance between each participant, when possible.
Public Restrooms
All restrooms will be sanitized twice per day.
College Staff and Student Employees
 • Job-appropriate personal protective equipment (i.e., masks, face shields, and gloves) will be 
made available to all staff.
 • Protective masks will be provided to all student employees.
Food Service
 • Aramark has implemented the necessary service delivery protocols to ensure safety and support 
for the college’s needs. 
 • Evans Dining Hall will only be open to campus community members with an Agnes Scott ID; 
no outside guests are allowed at this time.
 • Self-service stations will return to Evans at Green & Grains stations and Confectionary and for 
beverages.
 • Sanitation of commonly used utensils will be increased.
 • Unvaccinated individuals approved for exemption by the college must dine outside and remain 
physically distanced from others, or alone in inside spaces. Inside spaces should be cleaned and 
left empty for 30-60 minutes after dining use by unvaccinated individuals. Grab N Go is avail-
able for our unvaccinated community members.

 • Masks are required inside dining locations unless actively eating or drinking while seated.
 • Additional seating is available outside all dining locations.
 • Mobile ordering will remain available at all locations.
 • Hand-sanitizing stations will be provided at the entrance to all dining facilities.
eVentS and GatHerinGS
All campus events are to be held following college, state and health department guidance for gath-
erings, including instructions for potential physical distancing, capacities and use of face coverings. 
Hours of occupancy for facilities and spaces may be modified or staggered to limit group sizes and 
ensure proper distancing.
 • An emphasis on outdoor events will occur with appropriate physical distancing and adher-
ence to all safety and health guidelines across the college’s campus and facilities, as outdoor 
activities reduce the risks of viral transmission.
 • Events that occur on the Agnes Scott campus or are officially approved events must meet 
all safety and health guidelines, including, but not limited to, group and individual visits to 
campus. These guidelines are also strongly recommended for any off-campus student social 
events.
