Comunidad, antigüedad y solidaridad Ser gay en el tardofranquismo 1969-1978
No full textEn una época de represión e intolerancia en España, los homosexuales todavía existían, pero en una manera clandestina. Esta tesis explora cómo esta comunidad clandestina se expresaba durante el tardofranquismo en los años 1969-1978. Con discusiones de los valores del régimen, las representaciones del hombre en relaciones sexuales y sitios históricos que preservan el legado del franquismo, esta tesis ilumina la historia de un grupo oprimido en España.
A través del uso de diferentes fuentes académicas, incluso documentales, películas y artículos, esta tesis discute cómo los homosexuales se comportaban en el franquismo, y su tratamiento bajo un régimen opresivo. Unos textos y documentales centrales, incluso El látigo y la pluma de Fernando Olmeda, “Laws of Silence” de Alberto Mira, Los placeres ocultos (Eloy de la Iglesia, 1977), Mi querida señorita (Jaime de Armiñán,1972), y Bones of Contention (Andrea Weiss, 2017) forman la base para discutir el legado eterno del franquismo en España.
Además, con la ayuda de fuentes modernas, la tesis examina el legado del colectivo LGBTQ, específicamente por la lente del Orgullo madrileño. La presencia del pasado todavía vive en la comunidad gay española y esta tesis muestra cómo el pasado ayuda en la formación de la comunidad durante y después de la dictadura franquista
Effects of Exposure to Chinese Imports on School Spending and Revenue from Property Tax
No full textI analyze the effect of exposure to Chinese import competition on school revenues per student from property tax, from local sources, and school expenditures per student in 676 Commuting Zones (CZ) from 1990 to 2007. I discover a negative relationship on the CZ level between exposure per worker to Chinese import competition and school expenditure per student, as well as school revenue per student from local sources. In contrast, impact on school revenue per student from property tax is not statistically significant. On average, in a given period, an increase of 1000 dollars in import exposure is related to a decrease of 210.4 dollars in school expenditure per student and a reduction of 83.15 dollars in school revenue per student from local sources. In addition, different CZs face unequal levels of exposure, which eventually lead to differences in student outcomes

No full textPlaces the naturalist Alexander Von Humboldt\u27s proto-ecological ideas in conversation with Walt Whitman\u27s poetry to show how the poet developed an ecopoetics in conversation with the natural sciences of his time, with specific attention to Von Humboldt\u27s theory of the kosmos - by which Whitman\u27s poetic persona self-identified. These recognitions are combined with how Whitman\u27s idealized version of the American poet as a “kosmos” creates a political ecology in Whitman’s work, placing his ecopoetics into environmental discourses that resonate from their origin in the nineteenth century to our present ecological moment today
Massachusetts Chapter 70 Education Equity Funding in Policy and Practice
No full textSchool funding policies aim to equalize school quality between districts of varying income levels, however, vast inequalities persist in our education system. This thesis examines how and why education funding policy, despite its high potential to create meaningful reform, continues to be a weak lever to promote equitable change in the education system in Massachusetts. After considering the rationales from previous scholars used to explain this phenomenon, interviews were conducted with three key stakeholder groups (policymakers, state advocates, and local leaders such as principals and superintendents), in order to produce a cross-sectional analysis of why education funding policy tends to fall short of its equity expectations.
