The sign includes a map to the right and text to the left. The text states: ""Merwin's Basin, named for early settler Noble Merwin. Canal boats entered basin through Lock 43 and unloaded cargo. Warehouses and docks lined the basin, 200 feet long and 150 feet wide. Dry docks were on the canal south of lock 43."
