    Challenges of Service Design and User Experience Design in e-commerce after COVID-19 pandemic

    Service Design (SD) and User Experience Design (UXD) share the focus on user experience which is required for a broader design perspective along the customer journey through different touchpoints. User experience has been intensified by e-commerces during COVID-19 pandemic to create rapid solutions for these digital consumers. The objective of this paper is to address the challenges of UXD and SD integration in e-commerces during pandemic. In this context, the literature has shown that SD and UXD are facing challenges, particularly related to integrated product-service solutions. This integrated perspective has promoted a better user experience in complex systems characterized by a multi-channel and multi-touchpoint customer’s journey. Thus, the pandemic has provoked a demanding user profile and design innovations which increasingly require the integration of SD and UXD. The contribution of this paper is to clarify about the user, the combined product and service innovations in e-commerce impacted by COVID-19 pandemic

    Potential and pitfalls of using service design to facilitate soundscape thinking in city making

    Soundscape thinking - i.e., the capability to consider the experiential possibilities offered by a sound environment - has been characterized as critical for all those design activities connected to city making. Yet, traditional design disciplines operating within the urban domain (architecture, urban planning, service design, etc.) do not routinely engage with processes that systematically identify, control, and change soundscapes. This paper explores how customized service design methods - user journey, service blueprint, and a facilitation toolkit - have been envisioned and piloted within the context of a service design project anchored to the main football stadium of Copenhagen. These methods allowed the service designers and stakeholders involved in the participatory design project to understand existing soundscapes and tweak them by adapting specific touchpoints

    Service design for inclusion and accessibility at higher education institutes

    Design for care and support is slowly taking shape in developing nations. Disability support services are yet to find their place in Indian universities. Residential higher education provides a cohesive ecosystem of holistic growth. Students with disabilities have been devoid of these growth opportunities due to the absence of an equitable environment. This paper presents a model to establish inclusion and accessibility services for students with disabilities in residential higher education institutes. The service model results from participatory research and design thinking led co-creation with the students with disabilities at a pioneer residential university. The service design approach considers both the student and Institute viewpoints orchestrating the backstage and frontstage of the service. It presents the idea of bottom-up initiatives to build a larger disability support ecosystem in the Institute. The paper attempts to highlight the impact of service design in creating equitable and accessible systems for institutes and students

    Analysing Changes in Official Use of the Design Concept Using SweCLARIN Resources

    We investigate changes in the use of four Swedish words from the fields of design and archi- tecture. It has been suggested that their meanings have been blurred, especially in governmental reports and policy documents, so that distinctions between them that are important to stakeholders in the respective fields are lost. Specifically, we compare usage in two governmental public reports on design, one from 1999 and the other from 2015, and additionally in opinion responses to the 2015 report. Our approach is to contextualise occurrences of the words in different representations of the texts using word embeddings, topic modelling and sentiment analysis. Tools and language resources developed within the SweClarin infrastructure have been crucial for the implementation of the study

    EU Data Governance Act: Outlining a Potential Role for CLARIN

    The Data Governance Act was proposed in late 2020 as part of the European Strategy for Data, and adopted on 30 May 2022 (as Regulation 2022/868). It will enter into application on 24 September 2023. The Data governance Act is a major development in the legal framework affecting CLARIN and the whole language community. With its new rules on the re-use of data held by the public sector bodies and on the provision of data sharing services, and especially its encouragement of data altruism, the Data Governance Act creates new opportunities and new challenges for CLARIN ERIC. This paper analyses the provisions of the Data Governance Act, and aims at initiating the debate on how they will impact CLARIN and the whole language community

    This paper describes important aspects of the 10 years of development and the 18 years of security analysis of the cipher machine T-310/50 and the procedure ARGON by the Central Cipher Authority of the GDR. The threat model of the analysis is pictured. Examples of the security analysis of the cipher algorithm, machine, procedure and key management are provided. The focus is on the analysis of the operating functions of the T-310/50 (operating analysis), including the analysis of operating errors, as well as the analysis of the instruction manual for the cipher procedure ARGON. The possibilities of obtaining information by an attacker from traffic reconnaissance in general and decryption attacks in particular are assessed

    The International Conference on the Voynich Manuscript, which took place 30 November and 1 December 2022, was the first peer-reviewed conference that was dedicated entirely to the Voynich MS. The only similar event took place ten years earlier at Villa Mondragone, Frascati, Italy, with invited presentations but without published proceedings (Schmeh, 2013). This paper summarises the event, its preparation and organisation, with a summary of the papers that were presented and potential avenues for further research

    In the current state-of-the-art modeling tools for simulation, it is common to describe system behavior symbolically using mixed continuous and discrete differential-algebraic equations, so called hybrid DAEs. To correctly resolve higher index problems, hybrid systems and to efficiently use ODE solvers, a matching and sorting problem has to be solved, commonly referred to as causalization. Typically multidimensional equations and variables are scalarized, which leads to excessive build time and generated code size in the case of large systems. An algorithm will be presented, that preserves array structures as much as possible while still solving the problem of causalization in scalar fashion. Test results carried out in the OpenModelica tool show a reduction in build time of one/two orders of magnitude and of a factor two/three in the simulation run time for models of the ScalableTestSuite library

    Supporting Infinitely Fast Processes in Continuous System Modeling

    In this article, we examine the consequences of introducing a new construct into an equation-based language to model infinitely fast processes. We do this by extending the equation-based language Modelica with a special time constant, Θ. Θ provides modelers with an additional language construct that they can utilize both to improve performance of numerical integration for existing models as well as formulating and simulating models that existing tools struggle with. We present two cases where clear net benefits of introducing this new operator are illustrated. The first being an artificial DAE-System using a monotonic function, the second being an electrical circuit with and without a parasitic capacitance Based on or observations we believe that by enabling modelers to express common idealizations using Θwe can improve both performance and maintainability, since idealizations made by the modeler are encoded explicitly in the model

    Modeling Components of a Turbine-Generator System for Sub-Synchronous Oscillation Studies with Modelica

    In power systems, subsynchronous oscillations associated with the interaction between a mechanical rotor shaft and electrical system can lead to equipment damage if improperly mitigated. This paper describes the development of a scalable, multi-mass torsional shaft model and a synchronous machine model with DC offset torque components included using Modelica. When coupled, these models can be used to perform shaft torsional studies. Two methods of coupling the shaft with the rest of the turbine-generator system are devised and analyzed. A single-machine, infinite-bus test system using the torsional shaft model and generator model developed in this paper is proposed to observe the penetration of subsynchronous oscillations throughout an electrical system. The test system is then modified to model subsynchronous resonance leading to system instability. Analysis of the models described in this paper highlights the value of the Modelica_LinearSystems2 library in determining the torsional mode shapes and frequencies associated with a turbine-generator system model
