    Diseño de propuesta de mejora para la gestión del mantenimiento de subestaciones eléctricas en el área de alimentación eléctrica empresa Metro S.A.

    Metro S. A. es una empresa del Estado de Chile que presta servicios de transporte de pasajeros y anexos a este giro en la ciudad de Santiago. Fue creada en octubre de 1968, como Dirección General de Metro, y constituida como sociedad anónima en el año 1989. Metro de Santiago es una sociedad de propiedad del estado, cuyos dos accionistas son la Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (Corfo) y el Fisco de Chile. Desde su creación, su propósito ha sido cumplir una labor social, contribuyendo al progreso de la ciudad y mejorando la calidad de vida de quienes la habitan. En la actualidad, existen 7 líneas de tren subterráneo, que suman 140 kilómetros y 136 estaciones que conforman la red y que llegan a 25 comunas de la región Metropolitana. Este proyecto estará específicamente dirigido al área de alimentación eléctrica en líneas automáticas L3-L6, la cual forma parte del departamento de gerencia corporativa de mantenimiento de la empresa. Dentro del área de alimentación eléctrica en líneas automáticas se ha identificado una serie de desafíos que afectan la eficiencia en la calidad de la gestión del mantenimiento eléctrico de las subestaciones que permiten el funcionamiento correcto de toda la red. Estos desafíos incluyen: • Programación de mantenimiento de las subestaciones eléctricas. • Bajada de información. • Permisos de trabajo y/o autorizaciones. • Coordinación interdepartamental y retroalimentación. El sistema actual de gestión del mantenimiento lleva mucho tiempo funcionando de la misma forma, canalizando todo vía plataformas digitales; correos, Excel o Teams con reuniones periódicas, por lo que es importante implementar una gestión más eficiente con la visión de optimizar recursos importantes y apreciar las deficiencias en la gestión actual que se crean a raíz de los problemas identificados. Este proyecto responde a una necesidad existente, en donde se diseñará una propuesta de mejora para la gestión del mantenimiento con el fin de poder optimizar de mejor manera los distintos recursos involucrados en las actividades programadas de las mantenciones de subestaciones eléctricas en Metro S.A., reduciendo el porcentaje de no cumplimientos de los mantenimientos y renovando la comunicación efectiva, con un seguimiento continuo a las actividades planificadas. A continuación, se presentará una propuesta de mejora que consistirá en crear un Work Service con el fin de unificar las gestiones del sistema actual en una sola plataforma pudiendo de esta forma mejorar el sistema actual de gestión del mantenimiento de subestaciones eléctricas y reducir el porcentaje (%) de los no cumplimientos actuales detectados en el diagnóstico de información del área en las programaciones y ejecuciones mensuales de Metro S.A. Para esto se utilizará la herramienta de mejora continua Ciclo de Deming (PDAC), la que nos permitirá implementar un proceso de mejora basada en un Work Service en el área de mantenimiento de las subestaciones eléctricas de las líneas automáticas 3 y 6 de Metro S.A., donde se buscará abordar de manera integral los desafíos existentes en la gestión de mantenimiento en las subestaciones, con el objetivo de optimizar la eficiencia operativa y mejorar la satisfacción del cliente y la empresa. Tratando de aumentar los porcentajes de cumplimientos de las mantenciones nocturnas mes a mes. Dado que el proyecto de mejora está directamente relacionado con una propuesta basada en herramientas de tecnología TI, cuyo objetivo es diseñar un nuevo modelo de gestión de mantenimiento mediante la creación de una plataforma Work Service por el área de Desarrollo y Tecnología TI de Metro S.A., se realizará una comparativa de costos entre desarrollar la solución internamente y externalizarla, adquiriendo un software de un proveedor de Metro S.A. Esta comparativa se realiza con el fin de ser considerada para la referencia de toma de decisiones. Esta propuesta trae como beneficio tanto el pago efectivo real del acuerdo por concepto de contrato de mantenimiento preventivo a las subestaciones eléctricas acordado con la empresa externa Abengoa. Como la mejora de la calidad y eficiencia en la gestión del mantenimiento del área involucrada de Metro S.A., además de paso mejora la experiencia de calidad de servicio en el transporte de los usuarios debido a que mejorando el porcentaje de cumplimientos de mantenciones preventivas de las subestaciones.Metro S.A. is a state-owned company in Chile that provides passenger transport services and related activities in the city of Santiago. It was created in October 1968 as the General Directorate of Metro and was established as a corporation in 1989. The Santiago Metro is a state-owned company, with its two shareholders being the Corporation for the Promotion of Production (Corfo) and the Treasury of Chile. Since its inception, its purpose has been to fulfill a social role, contributing to the progress of the city and improving the quality of life for its inhabitants. Currently, there are 7 subway lines, totaling 140 kilometers and 136 stations that make up the network and reach 25 municipalities in the Metropolitan Region. This project will specifically target the area of electrical supply in automatic lines L3-L6, which is part of the company’s corporate maintenance management department. Within the area of electrical supply in automatic lines, a series of challenges have been identified that affect the efficiency and quality of the electrical maintenance management of the substations that enable the proper functioning of the entire network. These challenges include: • Maintenance scheduling of the electrical substations. • Information dissemination. • Work permits and/or authorizations. • Interdepartmental coordination and feedback. The current maintenance management system has been operating in the same way for a long time, channeling everything through digital platforms; emails, Excel, or Teams with periodic meetings, which makes it important to implement a more efficient management system with the aim of optimizing important resources and addressing the deficiencies in the current management created as a result of the identified problems. This project responds to an existing need, where a proposal for improvement will be designed for maintenance management in order to better optimize the various resources involved in the scheduled activities of electrical substations maintenance at Metro S.A., reducing the percentage of maintenance non-compliance and renewing effective communication with continuous monitoring of planned activities. Next, a proposal for improvement will be presented which will consist of creating a Work Service to unify the management of the current system into a single platform, thus improving the current maintenance management system for electrical substations and reducing the percentage of current non-compliances detected in the information diagnosis of the area in the monthly scheduling and execution at Metro S.A. To achieve this, the continuous improvement tool Deming Cycle (PDAC) will be used, which will allow us to implement a process of improvement based on a Work Service in the maintenance area of the electrical substations of automatic lines 3 and 6 of Metro S.A., where we will seek to comprehensively address the existing challenges in maintenance management in the substations, with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency and improving customer and company satisfaction by trying to increase the percentages of compliance for night maintenance month by month. Since the improvement project is directly related to a proposal based on IT technology tools, which aims to design a new maintenance management model through the creation of a Work Service platform by the Development and IT Technology area of Metro S.A., a cost comparison will be made between developing the solution internally and outsourcing it by acquiring software from a Metro S.A. provider. This comparison is made in order to be considered for decision-making reference. Currently, Metro S.A. pays approximately 210,000,000 monthly under a contract agreement for preventive maintenance of electrical substations for automatic lines 3 and 6 to the contractor Abengoa, so the contracting company receives 100% of the contract payment, despite not completing all scheduled monthly work due to the fact that the cancellations of the activities are the sole responsibility of Metro S.A. This proposal brings benefits such as the effective real payment of the agreement under the preventive maintenance contract for the electrical substations agreed with the external company Abengoa, as well as the improvement in quality and efficiency in the maintenance management of the involved area of Metro S.A. Moreover, it also enhances the quality of service experience in user transport due to improving the percentage of compliance for preventive maintenance of the substations

    INTRODUCCION: El clima organizacional y satisfacción laboral son variables que se relacionan con el bienestar de las personas en su trabajo, su calidad de vida laboral, motivación y en consecuencia intervienen en el rendimiento de la persona. Es necesario contar con un clima organizacional positivo y constructivo, lo cual contribuirá a reducir el estrés profesional, el agotamiento y mejora la satisfacción laboral. OBJETIVO: Analizar resultados de medición de clima laboral y creación de un plan de intervención para mantener un clima laboral saludable. MÉTODO: Al evaluar los resultados de la encuesta de clima laboral institucional las variables más bajas son: competencia de liderazgo, el apoyo, permitir la participación y satisfacción por la empresa. A través de un árbol de problema se identificaron las causas y efectos más importante que son las que se intervienen en este plan de mejoramiento continuo. RESULTADOS: A través de la implementación de un plan de intervención, se espera mejorar estos indicadores de clima laboral, los cuales serán evaluados en diciembre del 2023. CONCLUSIÓN: La mejora de clima laboral es un pilar en la cultura organizacional de instituciones de salud, puesto que mantiene la productividad y permite el cumplimiento de metas propuestas. Con la implementación de este proyecto de mejora, se mantendrá niveles altos de clima laboral en el servicio de Unidad de paciente crítico, Clínica Puerto Montt.INTRODUCTION: The organizational climate and job satisfaction are variables that are related to the well-being of people at work, their quality of work life, motivation and consequently intervene in the person's performance. It is necessary to have a positive and constructive organizational climate, which will contribute to reducing professional stress, burnout and improving job satisfaction. OBJECTIVE: Analyze work environment measurement results and create an intervention plan to maintain a healthy work environment. METHOD: When evaluating the results of the work environment survey, the lowest variables are leadership competence, support, allowing participation and satisfaction with the company. Through a problem tree, the most important causes and effects that are involved in this continuous improvement plan were identified. RESULTS: Through the implementation of an intervention plan, it is expected to improve these work environment indicators, which will be evaluated in December 2023. CONCLUSION: Improving the work environment is a pillar in the organizational culture of health institutions since it maintains productivity and allows the fulfillment of proposed goals. With the implementation of this improvement project, high levels of work environment will be maintained in the Critical Patient Unit service, Puerto Montt Clinic

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) that occurs in the context of these processes can include modifications of glycosylation patterns of glycolipids and glycoproteins affecting their interactions with galectins. Moreover, overexpression of certain galectins has been involved in the development and different outcomes of EMT.     La presente propuesta de diseño de mejora en el área clasificación de envases , en el área de almacenamiento retorno envases en la empresa CCU s.a., los procesos que se desarrollan en la operación , tales como la recepción, almacenamiento, clasificación y entrega de envases a líneas , en la actualidad se mantiene los mismos estándares del comienzo, siendo que las tecnologías y los procedimientos de embotellación han cambiado, lo que genera una duda razonable de la efectividad de los procesos , no se han actualizado ni medido nuevos métodos para tener resultados más eficientes. Con la finalidad de mejorar las deficiencias mencionadas anteriormente se propone la implementación de nuevos procedimientos, con la participación de un equipo multidisciplinario, formado por control inventario, control calidad y almacenamiento. Es fundamental tener un equipo calificado para cumplir con las necesidades del cliente interno y mantener los estándares requeridos por la industria. Un equipo bien calificado no solo garantiza que se sigan los procedimientos adecuados, manteniendo los estándares de calidad, sino que puedan contribuir a la innovación y la Mejora Continua dentro las zonas de clasificación y almacenamiento de envases.This design improvement proposal for the packaging classification area in the returnable packaging storage area at CCU S.A. addresses the processes involved in operations such as reception, storage, classification, and delivery of packaging to production lines. Currently, the same standards from the beginning are maintained, despite changes in technologies and bottling procedures. This raises reasonable doubts about the effectiveness of the processes, as new methods have neither been updated nor measured to achieve more efficient results. To address the aforementioned deficiencies, the implementation of new procedures is proposed, involving a multidisciplinary team consisting of inventory control, quality control, and storage. It is crucial to have a qualified team to meet internal customer needs and maintain industry-required standards. A well-qualified team not only ensures that appropriate procedures are followed, maintaining quality standards, but also contributes to innovation and continuous improvement within the packaging classification and storage areas

    Propuesta de mejora al modelo de negocio del vivero jardines silvestres

    Jardines Silvestres es un vivero con más de 30 años de trayectoria en la producción y venta de plantas de exterior, ubicado en la comuna de La Pintana, Santiago. Su misión es ofrecer plantas de alta calidad, contribuyendo al embellecimiento de espacios y proyectos de paisajismo. Actualmente, el vivero es gestionado por una microempresaria de 64 años y opera en un terreno de 3,000 m², donde enfrenta desafíos significativos para expandirse y mejorar sus ingresos. Entre los principales problemas detectados se encuentran los largos tiempos de producción, la falta de diversificación en las ventas, recursos financieros limitados y procesos operativos poco estandarizados, lo que ha dificultado el crecimiento y sostenibilidad del negocio. En respuesta a esta problemática, el presente proyecto tiene como objetivo implementar un plan integral de mejora para el vivero, enfocado en optimizar su modelo de negocio mediante la incorporación de la reventa de plantas, la mejora de procesos productivos y administrativos, y el desarrollo de estrategias comerciales. Este proyecto se fundamenta en un análisis de la situación actual del vivero, utilizando herramientas ingenieriles como el diagrama de Ishikawa y el análisis de criticidad, que van a permitir identificar las causas raíz de los problemas operativos y comerciales. A partir de estos análisis, se propone aplicar el Ciclo de Deming (PDCA) como metodología para estructurar e implementar las mejoras en cuatro etapas: planear, hacer, verificar y actuar. En la etapa de planificación, se desarrollarán estrategias como la identificación de proveedores confiables, la definición de un calendario de producción eficiente y la creación de sistemas para gestionar las ventas y el inventario. Durante la etapa de ejecución, se implementarán acciones concretas, incluyendo la capacitación del personal en técnicas de riego eficientes, el diseño de campañas de marketing digital para aumentar la visibilidad del vivero y la participación en eventos locales para captar nuevos clientes. Posteriormente, en la etapa de verificación, se establecerán indicadores clave de desempeño que permitirán evaluar áreas críticas como producción, ventas, marketing y finanzas. Finalmente, en la etapa de actuación, se realizarán ajustes y se consolidarán las mejoras para garantizar su efectividad a largo plazo. Además, el proyecto incluirá un análisis económico-financiero que evaluará la relación costo-beneficio de las acciones propuestas, permitiendo determinar su viabilidad. Este enfoque busca convertir a Jardines Silvestres en un negocio competitivo, capaz de superar sus limitaciones actuales y posicionarse como un referente en el mercado local de plantas y paisajismo.Jardines Silvestres is a nursery with over 30 years of experience in the production and sale of outdoor plants, located in the commune of La Pintana, Santiago. This project is based on an analysis of the nursery's current situation, using engineering tools such as the Ishikawa diagram and criticality analysis, which will identify the root causes of operational and commercial problems. Based on these analyses, the Deming Cycle (PDCA) is proposed as the methodology to structure and implement improvements in four stages: plan, do, check, and act. In the planning stage, strategies will be developed, including identifying reliable suppliers, defining an efficient production calendar, and creating systems to manage sales and inventory. During the execution stage, concrete actions will be implemented, such as training staff in efficient irrigation techniques, designing digital marketing campaigns to increase the nursery's visibility, and participating in local events to attract new customers. Subsequently, in the verification stage, key performance indicators will be established to evaluate critical areas such as production, sales, marketing, and finances. Finally, in the acting stage, adjustments will be made, and improvements will be consolidated to ensure their long-term effectiveness. Additionally, the project will include an economic-financial analysis to evaluate the cost-benefit relationship of the proposed actions, determining their feasibility. This approach seeks to transform Jardines Silvestres into a competitive business capable of overcoming its current limitations and positioning itself as a benchmark in the local market for plants and landscaping

    Musculoskeletal pain and upper quadrant disability in stringed-instrument studentsA cross-sectional pilot study

All rights reserved.Background: Musculoskeletal pain (MSP) is prevalent in musicians and is mainly located in the upper quadrant, affecting functionality. Repetitive movements, type of instrument, age, and sex influence this behavior, among other factors. Although the evidence is limited, it seems that string players are among those who most frequently report pain and disability of musculoskeletal origin. Objective: To characterize MSP and the level of upper quadrant disability associated with stringed instrument playing in conservatory students. Methods: In this cross-sectional observational pilot study, six self-reported assessment instruments were applied to 14 string students (8 males and six females) of different instruments (violin, viola, classical guitar, cello and double bass): Quick Dash Global (QDG) and High Performance/Musicians (QDL), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Chronic Pain Grading Scale (EGDC), the Neuropathic Pain Questionnaire (abbreviated DN4) and the Body Map of Pain (body chart). Results: 100% of the sample presented MSP at the time of the evaluation, mostly of low intensity, being in 21.42% of the cases of chronic and disseminated character. Neuropathic pain was present in 64.28% of cases. General functionality measured with EGDC was affected in 71.42% of the individuals. Upper limb functionality presented a mean QDG of 16.4 ±15.63 and a mean QDL of 32.11 ±16.78, while at the cervical level, 64.28% presented mild to moderate disability measured with NDI. Conclusion: DME and upper quadrant disability are frequent conditions in chordophone student musicians. Future studies should deepen the causes and investigate efficient strategies to prevent these conditions throughout their training process

    Obstetricia, Licenciado en Obstetricia y MatroneríaIntroducción: La diabetes mellitus (DM) es caracterizada por una alteración en los efectos de la insulina clasificándose en diabetes: tipo I (de origen autoinmune), tipo II (la más común, se asocia con la resistencia a la insulina, sedentarismo, obesidad y hábitos), y gestacional (aumento de glucosa durante el embarazo). Por otra parte, el cáncer endometrial (CE) se caracteriza por la proliferación anormal de células del endometrio, impulsada por diversos factores como endocrinos, metabólicos, entre otros. Objetivo general: Analizar cómo la diabetes mellitus se vincula con el desarrollo de cáncer endometrial. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica, a partir de las siguientes bases de datos: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus y Web of Science, seleccionando artículos originales en inglés y de revisión, que relacionan el cáncer endometrial y la diabetes mellitus a nivel mundial, publicados entre los años 2014-2024. Resultados: Se seleccionaron 8 artículos y se evidenció el tipo de estudio, número de sujetos estudiados, nacionalidad, pruebas y descriptores estadísticos, conclusiones generales, entre otros. Se evidenció la existencia de una correlación positiva entre la DM y CE y que la obesidad, hiperinsulinemia y la sobreexposición estrogénica son factores de riesgo que inciden en la aparición de DM y por consecuencia del CE. Se evidenciaron los factores fisiopatológicos como: hiperinsulinemia, hiperglucemia, obesidad relacionados con la progresión del cáncer de endometrio. Conclusiones: La DM juega un papel fundamental en la aparición y avance del CE. Factores como la obesidad, la hiperinsulinemia y el exceso de estrógenos incrementan el riesgo, influyen en el pronóstico y afectan la eficacia de los tratamientos. Aunque los estudios actuales son útiles, se requieren más investigaciones para mejorar los tratamientos y la calidad de vida de las pacientes.Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is characterized by an alteration in the effects of insulin production, classified into three types: Type I (Autoimmune in origin), type II (the most common type, that is associated with the insulin resistance, sedentary lifestyle, obesity and unhealthy habits) and gestational (increase of glucose during pregnancy). On the other hand, EC is characterized by abnormal proliferation of cancer cells in the endometrium, driven by factors such as obesity, use of hormonal therapy and mainly, diabetes mellitus. General objective: To analyze how diabetes mellitus is linked to the development of endometrial cancer. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Web of Science, selecting original articles in english and review articles that relate endometrial cancer and diabetes mellitus worldwide, published between the years 2014-2024. Results: A total of eight articles were selected. The characteristics of the selected studies included the type of study, sample size, nationality of the subjects, parameters and statistical tests used, statistical descriptors, and general conclusions, among others. The results revealed a positive correlation between DM and EC. Furthermore, obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and excess estrogen exposure were identified as risk factors contributing to the development of DM and, consequently, EC. Lastly, the pathophysiological factors and key findings in the progression of endometrial cancer were highlighted. Conclusions: DM plays a fundamental role in the onset and EC progression. Factors such as obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and excessive estrogen exposure increase the risk, affect prognosis, and influence the efficacy of treatments. Although current studies are useful, more research is needed to improve treatments and the quality of life for patients

    Spatiotemporal Variations in Biophysical Water Quality Parameters : An Integrated In Situ and Remote Sensing Analysis of an Urban Lake in Chile

    Publisher Copyright: © 2024 by the authors.This study aims to develop and implement a methodology for retrieving bio-optical parameters in a lagoon located in the Biobío region, South-Central Chile, by analyzing time series of Landsat-8 OLI satellite images. The bio-optical parameters, i.e., chlorophyll-a (Chl-a, in mg·m−3) and turbidity (in NTU) were measured in situ during a satellite overpass to minimize the impact of atmospheric distortions. To calibrate the satellite images, various atmospheric correction methods (including ACOLITE, C2RCC, iCOR, and LaSRC) were evaluated during the image preprocessing phase. Spectral signatures obtained from the scenes for each atmospheric correction method were then compared with spectral signatures acquired in situ on the water surface. In short, the ACOLITE model emerged as the best fit for the calibration process, reaching R2 values of 0.88 and 0.79 for Chl-a and turbidity, respectively. This underlies the importance of using inversion models, when processing water surfaces, to mitigate errors due to aerosols and the sun-glint effect. Subsequently, reflectance data derived from the ACOLITE model were used to establish correlations between various spectral indices and the in situ data. The empirical retrieval models (based on band combinations) yielding superior performance, with higher R2 values, were subjected to a rigorous statistical validation and optimization by applying a bootstrapping approach. From this process the green chlorophyll index (GCI) was selected as the optimal choice for constructing the Chl-a retrieval model, reaching an R2 of 0.88, while the red + NIR spectral index achieved the highest R2 value (0.79) for turbidity analysis, although in the last case, it was necessary to incorporate data from several seasons for an adequate model training. Our analysis covered a broad spectrum of dates, seasons, and years, which allowed us to search deeper into the evolution of the trophic state associated with the lake. We identified a striking eight-year period (2014–2022) characterized by a decline in Chl-a concentration in the lake, possibly attributable to governmental measures in the region for the protection and conservation of the lake. Additionally, the OLI imagery showed a spatial pattern varying from higher Chl-a values in the northern zone compared to the southern zone, probably due to the heat island effect of the northern urban areas. The results of this study suggest a positive effect of recent local regulations and serve as the basis for the creation of a modern monitoring system that enhances traditional point-based methods, offering a holistic view of the ongoing processes within the lake

    Can the Functional Physical Fitness of Older People with Overweight or Obesity Be Improved through a Multicomponent Physical Exercise Program? A Chilean Population Study

    Publisher Copyright: © 2024 by the authors.The aim of the present study was to understand the effect of a multicomponent physical exercise program on the functional physical fitness of older people with overweight or obesity in Chile, and whether these effects were similar in women and men. For this purpose, a quasi-experimental study was designed with a control group to evaluate the functional physical fitness through the Senior Fitness Test battery for older people [SFT; aerobic endurance (AE), lower body strength (LBS), upper body strength (UBS), upper body flexibility (UBF), lower body flexibility (LBF), dynamic balance (DB), and hand pressure strength right (HPSR) and left (HPSL)]. Seventy older people with overweight or obesity aged between 60 and 86 years participated (M = 73.15; SD = 5.94), and were randomized into a control group (CG, n = 35) and an experimental group (EG, n = 35). The results after the intervention between the CG and EG indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the AE (p = 0.036), in the LBS (p = 0.031), and in the LBF (p = 0.017), which did not exist before the intervention (p > 0.050), except in the HPSR (0.029). Regarding the results of the EG (pre vs. post-intervention), statistically significant differences were found in all of the variables studied: AE (p 0.05). Based on the results obtained, we can say that a multicomponent physical exercise program applied for 6 months in older people with overweight or obesity produces improvements in functional physical fitness regardless of sex, except in lower body flexibility and left-hand dynamometry

    Kisspeptin signalling and its correlation with placental ultrastructure and clinical outcomes in pregnant South African women with obesity and gestational diabetes

    Publisher Copyright: © 2024Introduction: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a major pregnancy metabolic disorder and is strongly linked with obesity. Kisspeptin is a hormone that increases several thousand-fold in the maternal circulation during human pregnancy, with placenta as its main source. Studies have suggested that kisspeptin regulates trophoblast invasion and promotes pancreatic insulin secretion and peripheral insulin sensitivity. Methods: In a well-characterized cohort of pregnant South African women and molecular and histological techniques, this study explored the impact and interaction of maternal obesity and GDM on kisspeptin (KISS1) signalling in relation to placental morphology and maternal and neonatal parameters. Results: We found that GDM had no effect on placental KISS1 and KISS1R (KISS1 receptor) mRNA and/or protein expression. However, obesity reduced placental KISS1R mRNA expression even though overall KISS1 protein abundance or localization was not different from the non-obese group. Maternal and cord circulating KISS1 concentrations did not vary with obesity or GDM, but maternal circulating KISS1 was positively correlated with placenta weight in non-GDM obese women, and negatively correlated with placental intervillous space volume in non-GDM non-obese women. Cord serum KISS1 was positively correlated with infant weight in GDM obese women, but negatively correlated with maternal BMI in the non-obese GDM group. Placental syncytiotrophoblast extracellular vesicles exhibited detectable KISS1 and its abundance was ∼50% lower in those from obese GDM compared to non-GDM women. Discussion: This study shows maternal obesity and GDM can modulate placental kisspeptin signalling and placental morphological development with potential pathophysiological implications for clinically-relevant pregnancy and perinatal outcomes
