A Feminist Semiotic Study on the Symbolic Meaning of Femininity in the Book Cover Design: There’s a She-Wolf Inside Every Woman
This study explores the symbolic meaning of femininity embedded within the visual elements of the book cover "Ada Serigala Betina dalam Diri Setiap Perempuan" (There’s a She-Wolf Inside Every Woman) through a feminist semiotic lens. Utilizing Roland Barthes' theory of semiotics, the research analyzes the cover’s color palette, illustrations, typography, and layout, all of which visually represent the identity, power, and resistance of women from a cultural feminist perspective. The dominant use of pastel purple signifies not just aesthetic softness, but a deeper connection to the Suffragette movement, highlighting resistance and spiritual strength. The illustration of multiple women without facial detail, accompanied by the shadow of a howling she-wolf, reflects the rejection of conventional beauty standards and emphasizes the inner strength and diversity of women’s identities. Bold sans-serif typography reinforces the assertive message of empowerment. The study concludes that the book cover is not merely a promotional medium, but a visual discourse that deconstructs patriarchal norms and amplifies feminist ideology through symbolic and inclusive design. Ultimately, the book cover functions as a communicative artifact that embodies the collective journey and struggle of women within a patriarchal framework

The Role And Function Of Mantau Arts In The Community Of Merangin District, Jambi Province
Mantau is a traditional music from Bangko District, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. Mantau historically comes from a rhyme song carried by the Anman tribe who arrives at the port of Central Sumatra Island. The performance of mantau is sung by one person and the poems are arranged spontaneously into a rhyme form. Mantau underwent several changes on it’s performance, such as the formation of players, and the addition of musical instruments. In the past, mantau was only sung by one person, both male and female, but now mantau can be sung by two or more peoples, both male and female, from children, teenagers, to adults. The musical instruments are also varied. Nowaday mantau uses other musical instruments such as violin, drum, gong, and wooden kelintang for the vocal accompaniment which previously did not exist in mantau. Uniquely mantau music still survives and popular for it's community. This study seeks to see how mantau can survive and analyzed it through the musical aspect as well as the social aspect. The theory used to answer the problem proposed in this study is the "use" and "function" theory which is formulated by Alan. P. Merriam. Meanwhile, in the social aspect, mantau is used by its supporting community as a medium for expression both for the older generation and young generatio

Pakasiah is one of the mystical phenomena found in the Koto Nan Gadang area, Payakumbuh City. Pakasiah is performed to subdue or conquer a spouse, done by a wife towards her husband. These aspects are then analogized to musical elements that have relevance to works with extra-musical ideas. This music composition is developed through stages including exploration, material identification, and application with an Impressionist musical style approach. Overall, the work Jerat has the structure with the name Tuju, which embodies the archetypal aspect of the performer Pakasiah then developed into a musical composition in ensemble format
Representasi Identitas Budaya dalam Cerita Rakyat Nusantara: Kajian Strukturalisme Levi-Strauss
Folktales, as part of the rich oral literary tradition of the Indonesian archipelago, play a significant role in shaping and representing the cultural identity of a society. This study aims to examine the narrative structures within Indonesian folktales using Claude Lévi-Strauss’s structuralist approach, which focuses on binary oppositions and the logical relationships between story elements. The method employed is qualitative-descriptive, utilizing narrative text analysis on five folktales from various regions in Indonesia, such as Malin Kundang (West Sumatra), Timun Mas (Java), The Legend of Lake Toba (North Sumatra), The Crying Stone (Kalimantan), and Sangkuriang (West Java). The findings reveal that beneath the variety of stories and geographical settings, there are recurring structural patterns, such as conflicts between child and parent, human and nature, or good and evil. These patterns reflect cultural values deeply held by the storytelling communities, such as respect for parents, moral consequences, and a spiritual relationship with nature. By mapping the structures within these folktales, the study finds that Indonesian folktales do not merely deliver entertainment or moral lessons, but also serve as symbolic representations of collective cultural identity. This study is expected to enrich the understanding of Indonesia’s oral cultural heritage and open pathways for cross-cultural interpretation through a structuralist lens
