Šolski etimološki slovar slovenskega jezika 2022
Šolski etimološki slovar slovenskega jezika 2022 ('Learner's Etymological Dictionary of Slovene 2022') is based on the need to provide younger users, who as yet lack sufficient linguistic and historical background to gain insight into the history and prehistory of the words they use on a daily basis. With this in mind, the etymological explanations are provided in a simplified manner without compromising scholarly veracity.
The entry term is followed by an indication of whether the word is inherited or borrowed. If the word is inherited and arose within the Slovene language, the explanation continues with its word-formation history, followed by its etymological meaning. If a word arose during the Proto-Slavic periods, the explanation provides related words from a selection of Slavic languages and a Proto-Slavic reconstruction, followed by an etymological explanation. If a word is older, the Proto-Slavic reconstruction is followed by material from other Indo-European languages, the presentation of its original form or at least the root and related words, followed by an etymological explanation and, if possible, the original meaning. If a word is borrowed, its foreign source is presented, followed by its etymological explanation.Šolski etimološki slovar slovenskega jezika 2022 je zasnovan na potrebi, da tudi mladostniki s še ne zadostnim jezikoslovnim in zgodovinskim znanjem dobijo vpogled v zgodovino in predzgodovino besed, ki jih vsakodnevno uporabljajo.
Is the Western narrative about the Ukraine war correct? If it is, then Western policies might arguably make sense, even if they entail some risk of nuclear conflict. But if the narrative is wrong, then the West is basing existential decisions on false premises. If the narrative is wrong, a quickly negotiated compromise, one that would spare the lives of combatants and civilians alike, and simultaneously greatly reduce the risk of nuclear war, would not represent appeasement. Rather, it would be a practical necessity, even a moral obligation. Finally, if the Western narrative about Russia’s motivations is wrong, then the actions the West is taking now are likely to deepen the crisis and may lead to nuclear war.
Star Paths and Traces of Dance. From Plato to the Pilgrim Swirl
The work was originally published by the Slovenian Ethnological Society in 2021 under the title Zvezdne poti in plesne sledi: Od Platona do romarskega vrtca. Through systematically designed chapters, the author equips the reader with the knowledge necessary to situate the phenomenon in cultural-historical spaces. He draws the reader's attention to the changing philosophical, moral, ethical, religious and other predispositions that have influenced and continue to influence the phenomena highlighted in the study. In order to answer the question posed, the author sets a broad historical space, ranging from the understanding of ancient traditions and key ancient philosophical paradigms, through early Christianity, to the philosophical and religious dogmas of the Middle Ages and the modern period. It considers those key thought premises that have characterised contemporary understandings of dance knowledge in relation to concepts such as sacred space, sacred content, the body, movement... The monograph offers the reader hitherto unknown and uninterpreted reference literature, sources and data, and places them within a broad framework of multidisciplinary interpretations of the phenomena. The author has extended his interest from the field of his home disciplines, ethnology and cultural anthropology, to general history, dance history, philosophy, music and church history, theology and mythology. It is a lucid, critical, theoretical, methodological and scientifically grounded work on the history of placing movement/dance in the context of the sacred.Delo je v izvirniku pod naslovom Zvezdne poti in plesne sledi: Od Platona do romarskega vrtca izdalo Slovensko etnološko društvo leta 2021. Monografija bralcu ponuja do zdaj nepoznane in še neinterpretirane referenčne literaturo, vire in podatke ter jih postavlja v širok okvir večdisciplinarnih razlag pojavov. Avtor je zanimanje iz polja svojih domicilnih ved, etnologije in kulturne antropologije, razširil na splošno zgodovino, zgodovino plesa, filozofijo, zgodovino glasbe in cerkve, teologijo in mitologijo. Gre za lucidno, kritično, teoretsko, metodološko in vsebinsko znanstveno utemeljeno delo o zgodovini umeščanja giba/plesa v kontekst sakralnega
The Roman conquest beyond Aquileia (II-I centuries BC)
The increase in archaeological knowledge sheds new light on the presence of the Roman army and conflict archaeology in the Caput Adriae region and on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. The nine contributions by 19 authors from four countries (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria) summarise the historical, epigraphic and archaeological evidence. The main part of the book is devoted to the northern Adriatic and its hinterland in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. The topography of the first year of the Histrian War (178-177 BC) is examined in the context of a historical debate. The archaeological evidence of the early Roman military presence is discussed in the chapters on the military camps of San Rocco and Grociana piccola, the beginnings of Tergeste on the hill of San Giusto, the conflicts with the autochthonous population, and the epigraphic evidence of the Roman army. The remains of the early Roman camps provide a new insight into the landscape of central Dalmatia. On the basis of written sources, the Roman offensive policy in the southern Adriatic, in the Ionian region and in the interior of the Balkans is analysed.V knjigi devetnajst avtorjev iz štirih držav (Italije, Slovenije, Hrvaške in Avstrije) predstavlja zgodovinske, epigrafske in arheološke dokaze o prisotnosti rimske vojske in o sledovih spopadov na območju Caput Adriae ter na vzhodni obali Jadrana. Večina prispevkov je posvečena severnemu Jadranu in njegovemu zaledju v 2. in 1. stoletju pr. Kr. Topografija prvega leta histrske vojne (178–177 pr. Kr.) je analizirana s pomočjo zgodovinskih virov. Arheološki dokazi o zgodnji rimski vojaški prisotnosti so obravnavani v več poglavjih: o vojaških taborih Koromačnik in Mala Gročanica, o začetkih Tergesta na hribu Sv. Justa, o spopadih z avtohtonim prebivalstvom in o epigrafskih sledeh rimske vojske. Ostanki zgodnjerimskih taborov ponujajo nov vpogled tudi v pokrajino srednje Dalmacije.
Hodopisi. Zbirka etnografskih esejev z metodološkimi premisleki o hoji in pisanju
Altogether, the book ('Footnotes. Ethnographic essays with methodological reflections on walking and writing') encompasses ten texts, seven of which are anthropological essays, accompanied by two introductory texts and an epilogue on walking and writing as two long-established, but here freshly reappraised, methods of anthropological research. The essays take us across Istria, Goričko, Porabje, Koroška, and the Julian Alps, coming on the back of a preliminary brainstorming session between researchers from a variety disciplines and fields, before finally carving out distinct paths. Something between what is an academic text and an essay. By focusing on steps, words, and paths, whether walked or written, the book seeks to illuminate the in-between spaces, understanding walking and writing as a cognitive process, part of the fieldwork experience, a long conversation that meanders between the circuits of life. The book’s seven meditative essays therefore foreground hybrid, liminal and bold writing that is quintessentially anthropological.V knjigi je zbranih deset besedil – sedem antropoloških hodopisnih esejev, pospremljenih z dvema daljšima uvodnima tekstoma ter epilogom o hoji in pisanju kot dveh utečenih, a na tem mestu sveže premišljenih metodah antropološkega in etnološkega raziskovanja.
Iacobus Gallus: Opus musicum I/2. De nativitate, circumcisione et epiphania Domini
From the very beginning, one of the most important and ambitious goals of the MAMS collection has been publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. The publication of his famous collection of motets, Opus musicum, consisting of four books containing a total of 374 motets, partially achieved this goal in 1990. The transcriptions and critical commentaries were prepared by Edo Škulj, and Gallus’s motets were published in thirteen volumes between 1985 and 1990. The edition is enriched by numerous facsimiles from Gallus’s original prints, published between 1586 and 1590 by the Prague printer Georg Nigrin (Jiří Černý).
The second volume (I/2) consists of motets for 4 to 12 voices, many of them for two or three choirs. The motets are intended for the Christmas season running from the feasts of the Nativity and the Circumcision up to the Feast of the Annunciation, or Epiphany.
The 2023 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work. Gallus divided the first book of his Opus musicum (1586) into three sections, which have been retained in the MAMS edition.

The book examines a hitherto less studied area of the material culture of childhood from the beginning of the 20th century until the Second World War in Ljubljana and its surroundings. First, the basic concepts of the research are defined: material culture and childhood in synchronic and diachronic perspectives, and their relations are discussed. Then, the topic is examined in its temporal, spatial, and socio-economic context. The core of the book is an ethnological study, based on oral, written, and pictorial sources, of the food culture, clothing, housing, and play culture of the young inhabitants of Ljubljana in the first half of the 20th century. During this period, the child is supposed to have stepped out of the shadow of the adults and onto the social stage and experienced a long and secure childhood. However, research shows a discrepancy between the declarative and practical levels. Childhood, as envisioned by Ellen Key, who proclaimed the 20th century the Century of the Child, was lived by a few bourgeois children. The everyday life of the other children corresponds to the spirit of the opening words of the field narrative: “I had a good childhood. I had a good childhood because I made it myself.” Childhood was supposed to be the value of the 20th century, but the citizens of Ljubljana did not recognize its value at that time.
In this monograph ('From Folk Theatre to Heritage Staging'), the author presents in a modern theoretical and conceptual way the contemporary forms of occurrence, transformation and diversity of folk theatre in Slovenia. She is especially interested in the functions and the role of the selected examples of contemporary folk theatre for various communities. She uses selected examples of contemporary folk theatre and field research to present possible connections between the selected examples and tries to answer the question “Why stage your own heritage?”.
Empirically-based research on contemporary folk theatre brings an in-depth analysis of heritage staging up to 2022 and is complemented by fieldwork and interviews. A thoughtful selection of examples has been made in order to show the diversity of contemporary folk theatres, while outlining different approaches and ways of staging cultural heritage. The monograph presents a collection of various examples of contemporary folk theatre in Slovenia, offers insight into one of the possible approaches to researching the theory and content of this sort of folk performances and opens up new questions for further research. In this monograph ('From Folk Theatre to Heritage Staging'), the author presents in a modern theoretical and conceptual way the contemporary forms of occurrence, transformation and diversity of folk theatre in Slovenia. Further Discussions on Labour Mobility in the EU
This book follows up on the 2018 edited volume Labour Mobility in the EU, which offered explorations of several existing and emerging challenges concerning labour mobility in the European Union (EU) through the prism of different professions and mobile professionals. Conceptually, the book follows its predecessor by providing a collection of essays covering various topics, perspectives, and geographical contexts that address the dynamics of labour mobility in the EU. In terms of the content, the second volume exceeds the first volume by including the reflections, perspectives, and critical analyses of renowned foreign researchers and scholars who provide timely and thought-provoking snapshots of some of the core issues lingering in the overlap between the EU-labour market dynamics and cross-border labour mobility patterns. The book’s seven chapters are written by ten authors from four different EU countries. Despite their different academic backgrounds, they are all part of a tight-knit and dedicated network of scholars and researchers of migration, mobility, and (transnational) social protection in the EU.Knjiga je nadaljevanje leta 2018 izdane knjige Labour Mobility in the EU, ki je skozi prizmo različnih poklicev mobilnih delavcev ponudila vpogled v obstoječe in prihodnje izzive na področju mobilnosti delovne sile v Evropski uniji (EU). Čeprav izhajajo iz različnih akademskih disciplin, so del trdno povezanega in raziskovanju predanega omrežja raziskovalcev migracij, mobilnosti in (transnacionalne) socialne zaščite v EU. Knjiga ni namenjena samo akademski publiki, ampak si želi pritegniti pozornost širšega občinstva, predvsem pa spodbuditi k poglobljenim in navdihujočim razpravam o izzivih delovne mobilnosti v EU
