Ocena innowacyjnej efektywności post-komunistycznych krajów członkowskich UE
In: Ekonomista. Varšava : Polskie Towarzystwo Ekonomiczne, 2024. ISSN 0013-3205. No. 4 (2024), pp. 434-455.Innovation plays a key role in driving progress and responding to the constantly changing economic, social, and technological requirements that modern economies face. This article assesses the innovative efficiency of the 11 post-communist EU member states in order to identify those that have achieved the weakest results in transforming pro-innovation inputs into innovative results. The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was used to estimate efficiency scores. The study analysed two models: Model A – covering 28 EU member states; and Model B – covering 16 EU countries and 12 countries from Europe, Asia and South America that are more similar in terms of economic development as measured by GDP per capita. The data on the input and output measures come from the 2015-2020 Global Innovation Index (GII) reports. The main findings indicate that among post-communist EU member states, Poland and Lithuania have achieved the lowest DEA-efficiency scores in transforming innovation inputs into innovations
Relationship between key performance indicators and force-velocity profile of elite sprinters and football players
In: Slovak journal of sport science : scientific peer-reviewed journal. Banská Bystrica : Univerzita Mateja Bela, Filozofická fakulta, 2024. ISSN 2453-7659. Vol. 9, no. suppl. (2024), pp. 1-12.This study is based on the research of Brűnn and Švantner (1), who compared key performance indicators (KPI) of an elite sprinter and players of national football teams. Although the sprinter excelled in jumping abilities (SJ, CMJ, BJ, RSI), he did not achieve the highest strength values in any of the selected metrics. Švantner and Brűnn (2) also compared sprint acceleration force-velocity profile of elite sprinters and elite football players, and it was found that while football players showed superior force production and application effectiveness, sprinters maintain high efficiency in force at increased velocities. The aim of this study is to follow up and correlate non-specific KPI and force velocity profile of elite sprinters and football players. Methods: The first part of the research was collecting key performance indicators data of 13 elite level male soccer players and an elite level sprinter, who completed squat jump (SJ), counter-movement jump (CMJ), broad jump (BJ), depth jump (DJ – RSI index) tests, ankle extensors’ force assessment (AEF), isometric 30° knee flexion (ISO30), eccentric nordic hamstring (ENH), isokinetic knee extension (IKQ) and knee flexion (IKH). The second part of the research was to complete a 30m linear sprint, which was assessed by 1080 Sprint device. The research sample consisted of 38 male elite soccer players and 6 elite level sprinters. The testing of football players took place on match day +3 days, with RAMP protocol warm up. Macroscopic F-v profiles were calculated based on running speed, body mass and the basic laws of motion applied to the center of mass. Last phase of the research was to correlate non-specific KPI (SJ, SMJ, BJ, DJ, AEF, ISO30, ENH, IKQ, IKH) and force velocity profile (F0, V0, RFmax %, DRF %) of elite sprinters and football players. The statistical analysis was done in Python program. Results: In our research sample, which consisted of elite football players and sprinters, only one moderate positive correlation (0.63) was found between strength in eccentric nordic hamstring exercise and momentum (kg∗m/s). Weak correlation (0.47) was observed between ankle joint extensors isometric strength and momentum (kg∗m/s), suggesting the importance of adequate strength level of individuals in specific positions. Almost moderate correlation (correlation coefficient: 0.47) between the standing long jump and the value of V0 (m/s) and at the same time no correlation (correlation coefficient: -0.06) between the standing long jump and the value of F0 (N/kg) is a very interesting finding. Given that the standing long jump represents horizontal force production, these findings are rather unforseen. Unexpectedly, only weak relationship was found between RSI and V0 (m/s) (0.41) and no relationship between isometric hamstring strength and F0 and V0 respectively. Conclusions: While the sprinter excelled in jumping abilities (SJ, CMJ, BJ, RSI), he did not achieve the highest levels of strength across any of the selected metrics (1). The second part of this study underscores the fact, that while football players demonstrate greater force production and application effectiveness, sprinters exhibit high efficiency in force at elevated velocities (2). No or weak relationships were found between KPI and the force-velocity profile of the research sample in our correlations. Another finding is the fact that despite the different movement strategies to reach maximal speed between football players and sprinters, these facts did not substantially affect the final results
The essence and barriers to the use of controlling in the practice of manufacturing enterprises
In: E+M Ekonomie a Management = E&M Economics and Management. Liberec : Technická univerzita v Liberci, 2024. ISSN 1212-3609. Roč. 27, č. 3 (2024), s. 172-185.The theory, but also examples from practice confirm the fact that the use of controlling in economic practice differs significantly in the context of understanding its essence. The ambiguity of the definition of controlling, two different thought concepts, the diversity of tools and approaches, but also other barriers prevent its use to a greater extent than this managerial approach would deserve. The current research is based on the understanding of the essence of controlling in German-speaking countries and is oriented towards a coordinated predictive management approach based on precise cost reports. The research question was aimed at identifying current use and barriers of controlling in manufacturing enterprises in relation to the understanding of its essence and impact of performance through a questionnaire survey and structured interviews with managers from 2021 to 2022. A population of 2,504 enterprises was addressed by means of stratified sampling. The chi-square goodness-of-fit test was used to test how well the characteristics of the research sample fit the final population. A total of 352 manufacturing enterprises formed the resulting sample representative – enterprise size and type of industry designated according to the European standard industry classification system. Methods of contingency analysis and interval estimates of the population proportion were used to test the stated hypotheses. The testing confirmed a dependence between the practical use of a broader scale of controlling tools and the performance of enterprises measured by the return on sales (ROS) indicator, as well as the difference in the perception of barriers to the implementation of controlling depending on the size of enterprises. Controlling with the assistance of software support of the management information system, with a detailed implementation process and precisely defined competencies of employees and controllable KPI, creates the potential to increase the complexity of management and performance of enterprises as well as the elimination of potential risks.VEGA 1/0093/23 Výskum potenciálu cirkulárnej ekonomiky v slovenskom podnikateľskom prostredí pri výrobe inovovaných produktov na báze recyklovaných materiálov drevo - guma - plast

Environmental heterogeneity structures root-associated fungal communities in Daphne arbuscula (Thymelaeaceae), a shrub adapted to extreme rocky habitats
In: Molecular Ecology. Hoboken : John Wiley & Sons, 2024. ISSN 0962-1083. Vol. 33, no. 15 (2024), pp. 1-18.Rocky habitats, globally distributed ecosystems, harbour diverse biota, including numerous endemic and endangered species. Vascular plants thriving in these environments face challenging abiotic conditions, requiring diverse morphological and physiological adaptations. Their engagement with the surrounding microbiomes is, however, equally vital for their adaptation, fitness, and long-term survival. Nevertheless, there remains a lack of understanding surrounding this complex interplay within this fascinating biotic ecosystem. Using microscopic observations and metabarcoding analyses, we examined the fungal abundance and diversity in the root system of the rock-dwelling West Carpathian endemic shrub, Daphne arbuscula (Thymelaeaceae). We explored the diversification of root-associated fungal communities in relation to microclimatic variations across the studied sites. We revealed extensive colonization of the Daphne roots by diverse taxonomic fungal groups attributed to different ecological guilds, predominantly plant pathogens, dark septate endophytes (DSE), and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). Notably, differences in taxonomic composition and ecological guilds emerged between colder and warmer microenvironments. Apart from omnipresent AMF, warmer sites exhibited a prevalence of plant pathogens, while colder sites were characterized by a dominance of DSE. This mycobiome diversification, most likely triggered by the environment, suggests that D. arbuscula populations in warmer areas may be more vulnerable to fungal diseases, particularly in the context of global climate change.APVV-22-0365 Význam reprodukčných systémov, hybridizácie a symbiotickej asociácie pre evolúciu a prežívanie cievnatých rastlín v prostredí skalných biotopov

In: Russkij jazyk v Armenii = Russian language in Armenia. Abovyan : Armenian state pedagogical university, 2024. ISSN 1829-4162. No. 2 (2024), pp. 152-172.In our article “Moving, dramatic and creative didactic games in teaching Russian as a second language in a Slovak school,” we examine the use of language didactic games as an activating method in teaching Russian in primary schools in Slovakia. Games are used to improve communication skills, critical thinking, cooperation and other important skills. Playing is a completely natural activity for children, but it will also interest adults. In preschool and primary and secondary education, play is used as a normal daily activity for students and is integrated into the educational process. Especially when teaching foreign languages (Russian), games are used as an effective teaching method. However, its use has a wide range and acts as a suitable activating, revitalizing element even when teaching older students or adults. In our work we provide examples of specific didactic language games intended for use in Russian language lessons in elementary school. The developed didactic language games meet the requirements of modern foreign language teaching, and their main goal is to increase student motivation and make the learning process more effective
Factors determining the implementation of corporate social responsibility in the SME segment in the V4 region
In: Equilibrium : quarterly journal of economics and economic policy. Olsztyn : Institute of Economic Research, 2024. ISSN 1689-765X. Vol. 19, no. 4 (2024), pp. 1327-1362.Research background: Although experts emphasise the indisputable importance and influence of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the economy, many authors highlight the need for further development of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) concept within the context of SMEs. Most empirical studies focus on the perception of CSR from the perspective of customers, employees, or other stakeholders, while the perspective of entrepreneurs remains largely unexplored.
Purpose of the article: This study aims to identify and quantify the impact of selected factors, such as business ethics (BE), human resource management (HRM), financial management (FM), and environmental aspects (EA), on the willingness of SMEs to implement CSR in the V4 region.
Methods: The attitudes of SME owners and top managers of SMEs were examined using computer-assisted web interviews. Data were collected in June 2022 from a sample of 1,396 SMEs within the V4 region. Quantitative methods, including factor analysis and structural equation modelling, were used to evaluate the hypotheses.
Findings & value added: All examined factors, including BE, FM, HRM, and EA, are significant determinants that positively influence the level of CSR implementation in the SME segment. Among these, the perceptions of owners and top managers regarding EAs exert the most substantial positive impact on CSR implementation, followed by HRM and FM, each with a moderately positive effect. BE has the least positive impact on CSR. These findings contribute valuable insights that can inform the effective implementation of CSR and offer practical implications for academics, institutions supporting SMEs, and policymakers.Ina GAAA/2022/5 Vplyv implementácie CSR na udržateľnosť podnikania v podmienkach malých a stredných podnikov v regióne V
Efficiency and fairness in financing Slovak national sports associations
In: The NISPAcee journal of public administration and policy. Warsaw : De Gruyter Poland, 2024. ISSN 1338-4309. Vol. 17, no. 2 (2024), pp. 238-269.National sports associations are private-sector sports organisations with an exclusive, monopoly position for a particular type of sport within individual countries. This monopoly position is done by the internal regulations of international sports associations, of which only one entity for a given country can become a member, which its country represents at the international level. The legislation of individual countries also regulates National sports associations. The main aim of this contribution is to assess and benchmark the technical efficiency of 70 sports associations offering their services in Slovakia by a set of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models and to consider fairness in the financing of Slovak national sports associations. It is important to note that all models used have different premises in their modelling, each of them solves optimisation problems of real live under specific conditions. The arguments for evaluating fairness in financing are based on the methodology of the breakdown of financial subsidies for sport and on controlled interviews with experts of the state administration and national sports associations. Based on our analysis, we can state that the system of financing Slovak national sports associations is neither efficient nor fair in the redistribution of public funds from the point of view of meeting the goals of public policy in the field of sport. The outcome of the research may be of interest to regulatory institutions, as well as to the management of individual national sports associations.VEGA 1/0442/22 Nové DEA modely pre použitie na regulačné účely vo finančných a sieťových odvetviac
Red list of mammals of Slovakia
In: Ochrana prírody = Nature Conservation. Banská Bystrica : Štátna ochrana prírody Slovenskej republiky, 2024. ISSN 2453-8183. Č. 43 (2024), s. 57-69.Red Lists of threatened species are a respected source of information on the threat status of animal, plant and fungal species. They analyse the extinction risk of species, applying the standard categories and criteria. The structure of the current Slovakian Red List of Mammals reflects actual standard IUCN criteria and categories at both the global and regional levels. Of the 96 mammalian species of Slovakia (where the chamois is represented by two subspecies: autochtonous endemic Rupicapra rupicapra tatrica and the introduced R. r. rupicapra) we evaluated 86 (88.7%), the other 11 non-native and introduced taxa (11.3%) were not evaluated (NE). Twenty nine (33.7%) of the evaluated species are categorised as threatened. One species (Marmota marmota latirostris) was assessed as “Critically Endangered” (CR). Seven (8.1%) taxa (Spermophilus citellus, Alexandromys oeconomus mehelyi, Rhinolophus euryale, Miniopterus schreibersii, Lynx lynx, Bos bonasus, Rupicapra rupicapra tatrica) meet the criteria for the “Endangered” (EN) category. In the category “Vulnerable” (VU) 21 (24.4%) taxa were included (Microtus tatricus, Sorex alpinus, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, Rhinolophus hipposideros, Myotis bechsteinii, Myotis blythii, Myotis brandtii, Myotis dasycneme, Myotis emarginatus, Myotis myotis, Eptesicus nilssonii, Eptesicus serotinus, Nyctalus lasiopterus, Nyctalus leisleri, Nyctalus noctula, Barbastella barbastellus, Plecotus auritus, Plecotus austriacus, Vespertilio murinus, Felis silvestris, Lutra lutra). Mustela lutreola has become extinct in the territory of the country (“Regionally Extinct” – RE). The Red List also includes eleven species classified as “Data Deficient” (DD) due to the lack of data
