In: Storinky Istoriyi = History Pages. Kyiv : Nacionaľnij techničnij universitet Ukrajini, 2024. ISSN 2307-5244. Roč., č. 58 (2024), s. 226-249.The purpose of the research paper is to analyze Czech and Slovak historical sources on the Holodomor in Soviet Ukraine in 1932–1933. The research also examines Czech and Slovak historiography from the perspective of this issue to clarify the results of historians' work and to identify problems, specifics, and trends in the study of the topic. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, for the first time, an analysis of potential primary sources of Czech and Slovak provenance for the study of the Ukrainian Holodomor is performed. Furthermore, Czechoslovak (so-called interwar) and Czech and Slovak historiography from the turn of the 20th — 21st centuries have not yet been researched in terms of interpreting the nature and character of the Soviet Famine in the USSR in the early 1930s, with a particular focus on the Holodomor in Ukraine. In the former Czechoslovak area and after 1990, neither Czech nor Slovak historians utilized the potential of gathered material from the interwar period (archival, press, radio, travel notes, etc.). No monothematic monograph on the Soviet Famine or the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932–1933 has been published. This problem is presented only in the form of chapters in general works on the history of Stalinism or Soviet history in general. There is practically no translated literature, mainly by Ukrainian authors. This situation is caused by the fact that in the second half of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia, and after 1990 in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, no scientific school of Ukrainian studies was established. Currently, it is only beginning to develop. A recent trend is the effort to «revive» the work of the Czech historian and Sovietologist Jan Slavík, research materials of Czechoslovak press and diplomatic provenance, the publications of Czechoslovak intellectuals who visited or traveled in the USSR in the 1920’s and 1930’s, and the fate of the Volhynian Czechs in Soviet Ukraine during Stalinism. Czech and Slovak historians still have a lot of work to do in this area. At the same time, there is an obvious demand from the Czech and Slovak public for long-hidden and distorted aspects of Ukrainian history, including the Holodomor and other Ukrainian themes of the 20th century

In: Clinical and Experimental Hepatology. Poznań : Termedia Publishing House, 2024. ISSN 2392-1099. Vol. 10, no. 4 (2024), pp. 261-270.Aim of the study: Chronic liver disease is a global cause of morbidity and mortality. Slovakia has a high prevalence but an inadequate hepatology network. The COVID-19 pandemic catalysed telemedicine (TM) as a potential solution, which we aimed to investigate. Material and methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to evaluate the feasibility and benefits of TM for liver cirrhosis and posttransplant patients, consisting of two phases, TM1 and TM2. The main outcomes were 1) cumulative endpoint of feasibility, uptake/acceptance, adherence (TM1), and fidelity (TM1, TM2), 2) the po- tential to reduce the length of hospital stay, avert unnecessary hospital admissions, and expedite the search/recall process in case of serious signals mediated by TM. Although not analysed in this study, we have recorded variables necessary for investigating associations of TM use with clinical outcomes and healthcare expenditure. Results: The study included 95 patients. The adherence documented by the termination of monitoring at the designated time was higher in TM2 (81.7% vs. 58.3%). The proportion of patients terminated due to death or the physician’s decision decreased (16.9% vs. 29.2%) and was based on their discretion, unrelated to any health complications (1.4% vs. 12.5%). The clinical impact was reflected in the hospitalization rate, particularly shortened hospitalization in 11.3%, averted/prevented hospital admissions in 14.1%, and accelerated rehospitalization in 11.3% in the subsequent phase with alert-based interventions. Conclusions: This study showed that adherence to TM was high and integrating TM helps to reduce hospitalization rates. Despite the identified limitations, TM has the potential to improve the quality and substantially reduce the cost of care.ITMS 2014+ 313011ATK9 Telemedicína ako nástroj efektívneho riadenia systém zdravotnej starostlivosti zasiahnutý pandémiou spôsobenou koronavírusová choroba (COVID-19

In: Potravinárstvo : Slovak journal of food sciences. Nitrianske Hrnčiarovce : HACCP Consulting, 2024. ISSN 1338-0230. Vol. 18 (2024), pp. 951-963.This paper addresses the pressing issue of combating illicit tobacco products, emphasising the legal frameworks at both the national and European levels. It explores the roles and activities of various authorities dedicated to preventing illegal tobacco trade, including the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the Criminal Office of the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic. The study delves into the legislative landscape governing tobacco products, assessing its effectiveness in adapting to the evolving tactics of smuggling networks. In particular, the paper scrutinises how Slovak and European regulations align to counteract the sophisticated and increasingly complex strategies employed in illegal tobacco trafficking. Statistical data highlights the prevalence of contraband tobacco in Slovakia, illustrating the financial, health, and societal ramifications of the black market. The findings also point to a correlation between high tobacco prices and an increased likelihood of exposure to illicit products. Furthermore, the research supports hypotheses regarding the adaptability of Slovak legislation to contemporary tobacco consumption trends and the critical role of inter-European collaboration in enforcement efforts. However, it also identifies potential areas for legislative improvement, particularly in streamlining tobacco regulation. This study contributes valuable insights into the challenges and successes of the Slovak Republic’s ongoing fight against the illegal tobacco trade

In: Studia kinanthropologica : vědecký časopis pro kinantropologii. České Budějovice : Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích, 2024. ISSN 1213-2101. Vol. 25, no. 3 (2024), pp. 157-162.The aim of the present research was to define the infradian peculiarities of hematological variation in female athletes. The research was conducted in the form of a case study on four female endurance elite athletes (18-24 years old). Each female athlete underwent 4-5 tests, which were performed on each of them individually according to the phases of the menstrual cycle. The testing was carried out chronologically in the following time sequence: T1 10-8 days before menstruation (hereafter M), T2 4-3 days before M, T3 during M, T4 1-2 days after M, T5 9-10 days after M. All testing was carried out under the same conditions and according to the WADA rules. Collections were performed at 8:00 h ± 30 min fasting. The results demonstrated the fact that there was a significant hormonal response in female athletes who were menstruating and, on the contrary, there was only moderate hormone variability in female athletes who were not menstruating during the study. The results of the research demonstrate that more pronounced hematological variability was noted in female athletes with menstruation. Based on the results, it can be concluded that strict recording of the phase of the menstrual cycle should be considered when assessing the results in the biological passport of female athletes.VEGA 1/0707/22 Špecifiká variability hematologických ukazovateľov sledovaných v biologickom pase športovc
