Meta-optimization of resources on quantum computers
In: Scientific Reports. London : Nature Publishing Group, 2024. ISSN 2045-2322. Vol. 14, no. 1 (2024), pp. 1-10.The current state of quantum computing is commonly described as the Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum era. Available computers contain a few dozens of qubits and can perform a few dozens of operations before the inevitable noise erases all information encoded in the calculation. Even if the technology advances fast within the next years, any use of quantum computers will be limited to short and simple tasks, serving as subroutines of more complex classical procedures. Even for these applications the resource efficiency, measured in the number of quantum computer runs, will be a key parameter. Here we suggest a general meta-optimization procedure for hybrid quantum-classical algorithms that allows finding the optimal approach with limited quantum resources. This method optimizes the usage of resources of an existing method by testing its capabilities and setting the optimal resource utilization. We demonstrate this procedure on a specific example of variational quantum algorithm used to find the ground state energy of a hydrogen molecule.VEGA 2/0055/23 Efektívne algoritmy pre kvantové počítanie v ére NIS

Differences in the acquisition of cultural capital by students in different socio-geographical environments of family and school
In: WSB Journal of Business and Finance. Warsaw : De Gruyter Poland, 2025. ISSN 2657-4950. Vol. 59, no. 1 (2025), pp. 156-164.Sustainable development integrates and harmonizes three foundational pillars: economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection. At the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, committing to 17 goals, including the provision of inclusive and equitable education, and the creation of inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements (European Commission, 2015). This research explores the issue of social equity in education in Slovakia and presents findings from the VEGA project 1/0720/22 Family Cultural Capital and Its Influence on Children’s Academic Achievement. One of the project’s aims is to examine differences in the acquisition of cultural capital among students from diverse socio-geographical backgrounds. The study is based on a quantitative sociological and pedagogical survey of students’ perspectives (N=502), aged 12–15. The paper presents findings on personal and social aspects of students’ reading habits, focusing on schools located in cultural centres and peripheral areas. Data analysis was conducted using contingency tables, with statistical independence tested via Pearson’s chi-square test. Linear relationships between variables were examined using the linear association test. Results indicate that the school’s location does not significantly impact the time students dedicate to reading, the frequency of reading books or online texts, or the number of books read within six months. Although no statistically significant differences were found between localities, specific trends suggest fewer daily magazine readers in cultural centres, potentially due to the availability of alternative cultural activities (e.g., libraries, theatres, and cinemas). However, a statistically significant difference was observed in how students from cultural centres and peripheral areas assess their reading abilities compared to their peers. Differences were also identified in social factors related to reading, such as the number of books at home and the presence of reading role models in the form of parents. While disparities exist in the socio-economic conditions influencing students’ reading environments, the locality does not appear to affect reading frequency or duration. A notable decline in reading habits and interest has been recorded among Slovak students, correlating with their low reading literacy levels identified in international assessments (Miklovičová & Galádová, 2023).VEGA 1/0720/22 Kultúrny kapitál rodiny a jeho vplyv na školskú úspešnosť det

Data analysis for efficient dynamic IoT task scheduling in a simulated edge cloud environment
In: Open Computer Science. Warsaw : De Gruyter Poland, 2025. ISSN 2299-1093. Vol. 15, no. 1 (2025), pp. [1-28].Applications of modern Internet of Things (IoT) devices generate many tasks that are often real-time and require short response times and elimination of delays. Edge and Fog computing are suitable platforms for processing IoT applications. The contribution of this article is the design and implementation of a new algorithm, improved earliest deadline first (EDF), which provides pseudo-optimal scheduling of IoT tasks on microcloud computing machines by minimizing the completion time of the last task in the schedule (makespan). We experimentally evaluated the algorithm on scaled sets of up to 5000 tasks. The new algorithm ensures that all scheduled IoT tasks meet their deadlines as required and optimizes the completion time of the last task of the schedule significantly better than the original EDF algorithm. In the next part of this article, we focus on the analysis of scheduling large, scaled sets of up to 20000 tasks. Our novel approach consists of a comprehensive analysis and a method for finding task schedules that satisfy the required task deadlines while optimizing two other key parameters, which are makespan and the total power consumption required to compute the tasks according to a given schedule. We designed experiments and based on simulations, measurements, visualizations, computations, and analyses, we found optimized schedules for scaled sets of dimensional task datasets, which is the main contribution of this work.VEGA 1/0192/24 Vývoj a aplikácia pokročilých techník efektívneho spracovania rozsiahlych dát v prostredí inteligentných dopravných systémo

Strategiji perekladača v usnomu perekladi z arkuša ta joho jakisť. Častyna 2. Vplyv napriamku perekladu
In: Psycholinguistics. Perejaslav : Hryhorii Skovoroda University, 2025. ISSN 2309-1797. Vol. 37, no. 2 (2025), pp. 140-167.Aim. The aim of this second part of the psycholinguistic research in the language pair Slovak-English is to determine the influence of directionality on the generation of the target text (TT) and its delivery by comparing the sight translation (SiT) of student interpreters from their native language (NL) into a foreign language (FL) and vice versa.
Procedure. The participants, seven Slovak university graduates, sight-translated a non-specialised 272-word text from FL (English) into NL (Slovak). Their TTs were then compared with the TTs of the same students in the first series of the study where they translated a non-specialised 250-word text from NL (Slovak) into FL (English). The comparison was based on the following parameters: the rate of TT delivery, the degree of retention of ST information in the TT (based on the comparative proportions of omissions and major errors), the quality of TT delivery (as measured by the relative percentage of unmotivated pauses), and the respective ratio of surface-oriented (SurfOS) and sense-oriented (SensOS) translation strategies in the two directions of SiT.
Results. Delivery in the FL–NL SiT was 1.5 times faster than in the NL–FL direction. The FL–NL SiT is characterised by a better retention of ST information. The proportion of omissions in the FL–NL SiT is 1.7 times lower and the number of major errors 7 times lower than in the NL–FL direction, which allows for a higher lexical accuracy of the TT in the FL–NL SiT. In the FL–NL direction, the correlation between the surface-oriented (SurfOS) and the sense-oriented (SensOS) translation strategies is more flexible and less dependent on the ST structure. For the same reason, the quality of TT delivery in the FL–NL direction is better, which is reflected in fewer long hesitations and TT repairs.
Conclusion. Directionality is a factor influencing SiT efficiency. The conclusion about the dominance of the SurfOS strategy in FL–NL SiT should not be taken literally. SiT is not a mechanical substitution of target language equivalents for ST words, but a process of intensive intellectual activity related to ST processing and TT synthesis

Vol. 5, no. 3 (2025), pp. 121-126.This paper examines the role and admissibility of digital evidence, particularly data derived from instant messaging applications like WhatsApp and Telegram, in criminal proceedings within the legal context of the Slovak Republic. The focus is on the legal provisions and frameworks under the Slovak Criminal Procedure Code Act, especially regarding the seizure, preservation, and submission of digital data in criminal proceeding. A key aspect of this study is the exploration of how messages and other data from messaging applications are treated as evidence, addressing the complexities of their relevance, authenticity, and credibility in a legal context. In order to establish the admissibility of such evidence in court, the paper delves into essential principles such as the requirement for evidence to be relevant, authentic, and trustworthy. It highlights the fact that courts generally require clear authentication procedures to confirm the authorship of messages, which presents challenges due to the nature of online identities and the potential for manipulation or misrepresentation. The use of screenshots and the specific criteria that ensure they maintain evidentiary value are also discussed, reflecting the practical considerations involved in collecting and presenting digital evidence. Additionally, the paper critiques existing legal provisions in the Slovak Criminal Procedure Code, particularly those that address the seizure and handling of digital data stored on mobile devices and computers. There are notable ambiguities regarding the categorization of mobile devices as computers and the applicable procedures for accessing data from them. The study argues that the current legal framework should be amended to include a clear definition of digital evidence, to standardize the procedures for its collection, preservation, and presentation in court, and to resolve the conflicting interpretations that currently exist in practice. By examining these aspects, the paper contributes to a deeper understanding of how digital evidence is utilized in criminal investigations and legal proceedings, advocating for legislative updates to address the growing importance of digital data in modern criminal cases. Furthermore, it underscores the need for careful consideration of privacy rights and proportionality when dealing with personal information obtained from digital devices and online platforms
