Electrochemical Tuning of Ni-Fe Catalysts Using Various Techniques for Efficient Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Media

    No full text
The search for cost-effective and scalable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remains a critical challenge in advancing sustainable energy technologies. This study presents a novel approach to optimizing nickel-iron (Ni-Fe) alloy coatings on graphite (G) electrodes through a strategic combination of composition tuning, nickel modification, and various electrochemical optimizations. Unlike conventional studies, which primarily focus on static alloy compositions, this work systematically investigates the impact of dynamic nickel modification durations on the catalytic performance and conductivity of Ni-Fe alloys. By addressing the conductivity limitations caused by iron oxidation, the study demonstrates the enhanced HER kinetics achieved with a Ni-modified G/Ni%95Fe%5-Ni(60s) electrode. Electrochemical and structural analyses reveal the synergistic effects of nickel modifications on improving active site accessibility, reducing overpotential, and increasing hydrogen production efficiency. This work introduces a scalable methodology for tailoring Ni-Fe catalysts, offering significant advancements in the development of robust, cost-effective electrocatalysts for industrial-scale hydrogen production.Mardin Artuklu University Research Fund Office [MAU.BAP.23.SBF.012]The authors are very grateful to the Mardin Artuklu University Research Fund Office for financial support (Project number: MAU.BAP.23.SBF.012). This study aims to assess conventional ECG markers for diagnosing non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTE-ACS) in patients with chest discomfort and right bundle branch block (RBBB). A nested case-control design was employed to compare patients with RBBB admitted to the ED for suspected cardiac ischemia, focusing on those who developed NSTE-ACS versus those who did not. The sample consisted of 352 patients with suspected ACS and RBBB identified on ECG. Among them, 88 were diagnosed with NSTE-ACS. In the presence of RBBB, ST-segment elevation on the isoelectric line and/or positive T-waves on the ECG were significantly associated with the diagnosis of NSTE-ACS (p < 0.05). In patients who developed NSTE-ACS, the likelihood of an isoelectric ST-segment was 3.48 (95% CI 2.07-5.82) times higher, the likelihood of positive T-waves was 4.16 (95% CI 2.51-6.91) times higher, and the combination of an isoelectric ST-segment with positive T-waves was 4.81 (95% CI 2.28-8.25) times higher (p < 0.05). In addition, ST-segment depression and non-negative T-waves were significantly more frequent in patients who developed NSTE-ACS, with odds ratios of 5.78 (95% CI 3-11.3), compared to those who did not (p < 0.05). The odds ratios for ST-segment and T-wave changes were 2.81 and 3.47, respectively, with an 80% correct classification rate for predicting NSTE-ACS. Clinicians should closely monitor the presence of an isoelectric ST-segment and positive T-waves in patients with RBBB to assess for potential cardiac ischemia

The Predictive Value of the Cha2ds2-Vasc Score in the Development of Contrast-Induced Nephropathy After Endovascular Intervention in Peripheral Artery Disease

    No full text
Background: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a frequent complication of endovascular interventions for peripheral artery disease (PAD). It is linked to renal dysfunction, extended hospital stays, increased cardiovascular events, and higher mortality rates. The CHA2DS2-VASc score, widely utilized for assessing cardioembolic risk and guiding anticoagulation therapy in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, encompasses risk factors that overlap with those of CIN. This study investigates whether the CHA2DS2-VASc score can predict CIN in PAD patients undergoing endovascular interventions. Methods: The study included 754 consecutive PAD patients who underwent endovascular procedures at 2 centers. Each patient's CHA2DS2-VASc score was calculated and categorized into low (= 3) groups. Patients were retrospectively monitored for CIN development and divided into CIN-positive (CIN+) and CIN-negative (CIN-) groups. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of CIN, and a significance level of P < 0.05 was used for all statistical analyses. Results: Of the 754 patients, 178 (23.6%) developed CIN, with 151 (84.8%) occurring in the high CHA2DS2-VASc score group (P < 0.001). The CHA2DS2-VASc score was significantly higher in the CIN(+) group compared to the CIN(-) group (P < 0.001). Regression analysis identified the CHA2DS2-VASc score (odds ratio [OR]: 1.574, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.2981.907, P < 0.001), baseline creatinine (OR: 2.296, 95% CI: 1.580-3.335, P < 0.001), and hemoglobin (OR: 0.915, 95% CI: 0.844-0.992, P < 0.001) as independent risk factors. A CHA2DS2-VASc score cutoff of 2.5 predicted CIN with 85% sensitivity and 42% specificity. Conclusion: The CHA2DS2-VASc score is an independent predictor of the development of CIN in patients with PAD undergoing endovascular intervention

    No full text
Sakiz, Halis/0000-0003-2406-1011This pilot randomized trial examined the effects of a psychoeducational intervention on caregiving burden, anxiety, internalized stigma, and coping strategies among caregivers of children with epilepsy. Using a randomized design, 54 caregivers were assigned to either an experimental (n = 28) or control (n = 26) group. The 6-week intervention included psychoeducation, emotional support, and stress-management techniques aimed at enhancing caregivers' psychological well-being. Results showed significant reductions in caregiving burden (p = 0.000), internalized stigma (p = 0.000), and anxiety (p = 0.000) in the experimental group, while the control group showed no significant changes. Caregivers in the experimental group also adopted more adaptive coping strategies, including increased self-confidence (p = 0.000) and optimistic approaches (p = 0.001), greater reliance on social support (p = 0.001), and decreased use of helpless (p = 0.000) and submissive coping styles (p = 0.000). These findings demonstrate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of psychoeducational interventions for improving caregiver well-being and suggest the need for a future large-scale definitive trial to confirm these effects

    No full text
Aim: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been suggested to trigger the production of autoimmune antibodies and contribute to the development of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis. This study aims to investigate the presence of ANCA among COVID-19 patients. Methods: This cross-sectional, prospective analysis included 200 COVID-19 patients with positive polymerase chain reaction test results for severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 and no history of autoimmune disease, recruited between June 2021 and November 2022. The control group included 50 age-matched healthy blood donors. The ANCA profile was assessed using the indirect immunofluorescence assay method with the EUROPLUS Granulocyte Mosaic EUROPattern test kit (EUROIMMUN, Germany) on sera samples of the patient and control groups. Results: Perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA) was detected in 12 of 200 COVID-19 patients (6.0%) and cytoplasmic ANCA (c-ANCA) was detected in 15 of 200 patients (7.5%). No ANCA positivity was observed in the control group (0/50). ANCA positivity among COVID-19 patients (27 of 200, 13.5%) was statistically significantly higher than in the control group (p<0.05). ANCA positivity was significantly higher in intensive care unit (ICU) patients (21 of 77, 27.3%) compared to non-ICU patients (6 of 123, 4.9%) (p<0.05). Conclusion: ANCA presence in ICU patients supports the hypothesis that COVID-19 triggers ANCA synthesis and contributes to disease severity.Dicle University Scientific Research Projects Commission (DUBAP) [SBE.21.005]Financial Disclosure: This study was supported by the Dicle University Scientific Research Projects Commission (DUBAP) under project number SBE.21.005
