(De)regulating Access to Tourism and Hospitality Professions: The Case of Portugal
Seyitoglu, Faruk/0000-0002-7859-6006;This study explores the perceptions of key stakeholders responsible for tourism and hospitality (T&H) organisations in Portugal regarding deregulating access to professions in T&H labour. A qualitative research approach was utilised. Through in-depth interviews, data was collected purposefully from the participants. According to the qualitative findings, opinions on regulating and deregulating professions in T&H labour emerged as against deregulation, against regulation, and moderate. However, most opinions fall under the against deregulation category. Moreover, deregulating access to the profession has both positive and negative impacts, and the influences of deregulation on working models include two sub-themes: self-employment and accumulation of functions. Finally, policymakers' responses to deregulation include elements such as the increase in the number of associates that joined associations, the partnership of associations with educational institutions to create certifications, and the creation ofunions for specific positions. This research contributes valuable insights from key stakeholders on the deregulation of professions in T&H labour in Portugal, providing policymakers and scholars with a better understanding of the viewpoints on regulating and deregulating professions in this sector
Global Trends and Policy Impacts in Home Healthcare
Global trends and policy shifts in home healthcare reshape how care is delivered, financed, and regulated globally. Driven by aging populations, rising chronic disease rates, and patient preferences for staying at home, the demand for home-based healthcare services has increased. Governments are also introducing innovative policies to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and equitable access. These developments transform the delivery of skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and telehealth services in patients' own homes, while redefining broader healthcare systems. Further research is vital to understand how global trends and policy initiatives interact, shaping outcomes for patients, providers, and health systems. Global Trends and Policy Impacts in Home Healthcare explores the evolving global trends in home healthcare, such as technological integration, workforce changes, and the growing emphasis on patient-centered care. It examines how policies influence the accessibility, quality, and sustainability of home healthcare services across healthcare systems. This book covers topics such as healthcare systems, global business, and medical technologies, and is a useful resource for business owners, medical and healthcare professionals, policymakers, academicians, researchers, and scientists. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
This study aims to analyse the relationship between Turkish and Kurdish poetry in the late Ottoman period. The collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the Kurdish national awakening was also a period of identity construction. Our aim is to examine the perspectives of Turks and Kurds on modernism, nationalism, and identity, as well as the reflections of these concepts in poetry. The period between 1860 and 1919 was chosen due to the intensity of identity-related discourse during this time. Kurdish poems were selected from the magazines Rojî Kurd, Hetawî Kurd, and Jîn, while Turkish poems were chosen from N. Kemal, Recaizade M. Ekrem, T. Fikret, M. E. Yurdakul and Z. Gökalp, who played significant roles in shaping Turkish identity. Themes were analysed based on the assumption that shared motifs would be more effective in understanding mutual influence and interaction. The way these themes are treated, along with the identification of similarities and differences, reveals the distinct literary perceptions of each tradition. As a result, from the Tanzimat era to the National Literature period, common themes were explored through different styles and conceptual frameworks. Both nations metaphorically depict the homeland as a mother figure—Turks as a merciful woman, Kurds as a woman whose honour is to be safeguarded. Both traditions reflect on the modern individual and emphasize the importance of education for children and society. Given that both literatures emerged from the same geography and under similar hardships, it is evident that they addressed comparable themes through their own cultural lenses. Keywords: Identity, Modernism, Nationalism, Poetry, Society

Hamed-Troyansky, Vladimir. Empire of Refugees: North Caucasian Muslims and the Late Ottoman State
The exile and settlement of North Caucasians in the Ottoman Empire is not well-studied in English academic literature. Vladimir Hamed-Troyansky's book is a well-researched work that helps fill this gap in the literature. It explores various aspects of North Caucasian exile and settlement, analysing both state perspectives-through a wide range of archival sources- and the experiences of the displaced people. Particularly significant is its use of letters written by the refugees (muhacirs), which amplify their voices and integrate them into academic discourse for the first time
A Comparison of Native and Syrian Immigrant Women Students' Genital Hygiene Behaviors: A Cross-Sectional Study
Objective: This study aims to compare the genital hygiene behaviors of native and Syrian immigrant women students. Method: This was cross-sectional research. The sample size of the study was determined via power analysis and G*Power software. A total sample size of 330 individuals was equally distributed to both groups. Sociodemographic Characteristics Questionnaire" and the 'Genital Hygiene Behaviors Scale' were used as data collection tools. Results: There was a significant difference between the mean scores of the scales of both student groups (p < 0.05). The mean scores of native students were found to be higher. The variables "how to clean the genital area", "material used for genital hygiene", "washing method of underwear", "pretoilet hand washing habits" and "regular menstruation" were found to be most effective in terms of the mean scores of the Genital Hygiene Behaviors Scale and its subscales for immigrant students. Conclusion: Social security status and nationality were the most influential sociodemographic factors affecting genital hygiene behaviors. It would be beneficial to raise awareness and promote behavioral changes regarding genital hygiene through seminars, conferences, workshops, and similar events targeting all women university students

Comparison of Ultrasound-Guided Quadratus Lumborum Plane Block and External Oblique Intercostal Plane Block for Postoperative Analgesia After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: A Two-Center Randomized Controlled Trial
Background and Objectives: Although various regional anesthesia techniques are commonly used for laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), to date, no randomized controlled trial has compared the effectiveness of Quadratus Lumborum Plane Block (QLB) and External Oblique Intercostal Plane Block (EOIPB) in LC. Our aim was to compare the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided QLB and EOIPB in providing postoperative analgesia after LC. Materials and Methods: In this two-center, randomized controlled trial, patients undergoing LC were divided into QLB and EOIPB groups. Our primary outcome was the postoperative pain scores measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) at predetermined intervals. Secondary outcomes included opioid consumption, Riker Sedation-Agitation Scale (RSAS) score, and patient satisfaction. Results: The NRS pain scores at postoperative 30th minute, 4th, 12th, and 24th hours were significantly lower in the QLB group (p < 0.05). Patients in the QLB group required significantly less tramadol compared to the EOIPB group (p < 0.000). The QLB group also demonstrated lower RSAS scores (p = 0.005), indicating a smoother recovery process. Patient satisfaction scores were markedly higher in the QLB group (p < 0.000). Although both blocks were well-tolerated with no differences in side effects, EOIPB was associated with higher opioid consumption, indicating its relatively limited effectiveness. Conclusions: To conclude, this study highlights that QLB is a more effective option for postoperative analgesia and improves patient satisfaction after LC. EOIPB may serve as a viable alternative for some patients; however, given the advantages of QLB in pain control and recovery, it stands out as a more preferable method
Language and Society: A Controversy Between Searle and Bourdieu
My aim in this article is to establish a connection or bridge between philosophy of language and philosophy of society by showing the relationship between language and society within the framework of John Searle and Pierre Bourdieu's ideas. To this end, I discuss Searle's claim that it is language that creates social reality and, in a sense, human civilisation. I argue that his strong emphasis on the constitutive role of language actually demonstrates the relationship between language and society. In order to make this relationship more visible, I discuss Bourdieu's views on language and his criticisms of speech acts theory. Using these criticisms against Searle's claims, I offer a comprehensive analysis of the two thinkers' views on the relationship between language and society. Fundamentally, I try to strengthen the connection I plan to establish between philosophy of language and philosophy of society by analysing, evaluating and comparing both Searle's and Bourdieu's views on the relationship between language and society. By addressing these two thinkers together, I try to violate the distinctions and boundaries between these two thinkers as well as between problem areas and philosophical disciplines. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
A Randomized Trial of Inulin for Bowel Symptoms, Depression and Quality of Life in Constipation Predominant IBS
Ucar, Asli/0000-0001-9724-9571;This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of inulin on bowel symptoms, depression and quality of life in individuals with constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. This study was designed as a randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with a parallel design and a 1:1 allocation ratio. Individuals (n = 34) aged between 21 and 63 years with constipation-predominant IBS were included in the study. Individuals were randomly assigned to two groups: the prebiotic group (n = 17), which received a 50%/50% mixture of inulin/oligofructose (4.6 g twice daily, for a total daily dose of 9.2 g), and the placebo group (n = 17), which total received 9.2 g of maltodextrin per day. The intervention period was 8 weeks. Bristol Stool Scale, IBS-Visual Analogue Scale (IBS-VAS), IBS-Symptom Severity Score Scale (IBS-SSS), IBS-Quality of Life Scale (IBS-QoL) and Beck Depression Scale were administered to the participants at the beginning, 1st month and 2nd month. As a result, total IBS-QoL score increased in the prebiotic group (61.0 +/- 19.4 to 77.4 +/- 15.1; p < 0.006), whereas total IBS-SSS score decreased (267.3 +/- 56.0 to 195.8 +/- 59.0; p < 0.026). In the prebiotic group, significant improvement was observed in the IBS-VAS parameters of constipation status (2.2 +/- 2.3 to 4.9 +/- 2.5; p < 0.042(groupxtime)), psychological state (7 (2-10) to 9 (5-10); p < 0.006). It is thought that inulin may have beneficial effects on reducing symptom severity and frequency and on quality of life in individuals with IBS in whom constipation is predominant
