The Relationship Between Nurses Anxiety and Attitudes Towards Artificial Intelligence and Examination of Influencing Factors
Çaylı, Nazan/0000-0002-9116-6713Aim to explore the relationships between nurses'anxiety and attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) and the factors associated with them. Background Although AI technologies are increasingly integrated into healthcare, research exploring nurses ' psychological readiness and emotional responses to AI remains limited. Existing studies have primarily focused on nursing students or general healthcare professionals, leaving a gap in understanding how practicing nurses perceive and emotionally adapt to AI within real clinical environments-particularly in T & uuml;rkiye, where digital transformation in healthcare is accelerating. Addressing this gap is essential, as nurses play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and ethical implementation of AI-driven tools in patient care. Methods This descriptive and correlational study included 562 nurses from 14 branches of a private hospital chain across seven Turkish cities between November 2024 and January 2025.This sample was selected because it represents nurses actively engaged in clinical decision-making within healthcare systems that are rapidly adopting AI technologies. According to a power analysis performed in G*Power (rho = 0.25, alpha = 0.05, power = 0.95), the required sample size was 202 participants. Data were collected through an online questionnaire comprising a Descriptive Information Form, the AI Anxiety Scale, and the General Attitudes toward AI Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, ANOVA (F), Tukey post hoc test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted. Ethical approval was obtained from the Fenerbah & ccedil;e University Ethics Committee, and informed consent was obtained digitally. Results Nurses reported moderate anxiety levels and generally positive attitudes toward AI. Male nurses showed an association with lower anxiety levels and higher positive attitude scores than female nurses. Single individuals and those with higher levels of education showed higher positive attitudes toward AI. Those with 0-3 years of experience in the profession were associated with lower anxiety and higher positive attitude scores. Nurses who used AI in practice, were knowledgeable about its use, or perceived it as reliable showed a relationship with lower anxiety and more positive attitudes. Regression analysis showed that each one-unit increase in the learning and AI configuration subscales of the AI Anxiety Scale was associated with a 0.740-and 0.716-point lower score in the total attitude score, respectively. Conclusion The findings suggest that lower levels of anxiety related to learning and AI configuration are associated with more positive attitudes toward AI. Addressing these specific anxiety domains may be related to the successful integration of AI technologies into clinical practice and could be linked to the digital transformation in healthcare
Pathologies of the Modern Paradigm and the Refugee Question: A Critical Analysis
This article examines the internal contradictions and social pathologies generated by the modern paradigm, focusing especially on the issue of migration. Using epistemological critiques from thinkers like Adorno, Kuhn, Popper, Hayek, and the Frankfurt School, the paper argues that modernity's promise of universal rationality and scientific progress has frequently resulted in structures that are exclusionary, homogenizing, and sometimes even totalitarian. The paper then links these theoretical debates to contemporary migration. It emphasizes how refugee women-especially those facing the combined challenges of gender and displacement-experience complex layers of social invisibility and discursive erasure. By critically applying recognition theory and discourse analysis, the study highlights how modernity's promise of inclusion frequently hides the actual mechanisms of marginalization. In this part, the article demonstrates that these marginalization processes are linked to the scientific premises of the modern paradigm and considers the migration problem as an example of the pathology of the modern paradigm
Verification Trials Can Create the Illusion of VO2max in Addition to Contributing to Its Confirmation
Alp, Egemen/0000-0002-5915-8625This study examined whether constant-workload verification trials performed at intensities below, at, and above the ramp-incremental peak power output (PPO) contribute to confirming maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Fifteen trained to well-trained male cyclists (VO2max: 63.6 +/- 5.6 mL & centerdot;kg(-1)& centerdot;min(-1)) completed maximal ramp testing followed by seven randomized verification trials (80%-110% PPO at 5% intervals) on separate days. Differences in VO2 responses were analyzed using linear mixed-effects models. Effect size was calculated using Hedges' g. The peak VO2 attained during the verification trials was expressed relative to the ramp-derived VO2max and classified as lower ( 105%). The peak VO2 values at 80%, 105%, and 110% PPO were significantly lower than ramp-derived VO2max (p < 0.05), whereas no significant differences were observed at 85%, 90%, and 95% PPO. Effect sizes were small at 85%-95% PPO (Hedges' g = 0.29-0.32), medium at 100%-105% PPO (Hedges' g = 0.63-0.66), and large at 80% and 110% PPO (Hedges' g = 1.21-1.34). Of 105 verification trials, 81 were within +/- 5% of ramp VO2max, 22 were lower (mainly at 80% and 110% PPO), and two exceeded ramp VO2max (at 85% and 95% PPO). Although verification trials did not meaningfully contribute to the verification of VO2max, trials performed at 85%-95% PPO provided the best chances of confirming VO2max in trained individuals. Interpretation of verification trials relative to ramp-derived PPO is protocol dependent, which may limit generalizability across different ramp designs
Investigating Text Neck Syndrome and Duration of Mobile Phone Use, Muscle Activity, Hand Grip Strength, Posture, and Disability
Neck and shoulder musculoskeletal symptoms related to smartphone use are becoming increasingly prevalent, yet the underlying mechanisms including smartphone usage duration, muscle activity, hand grip strength, posture, and disability remain incompletely understood. This study examined the interaction between text-neck syndrome and factors such as smartphone usage duration, muscle activity, hand grip strength, posture, and disability. Forty participants (Text Neck group: n = 18; 14 females or Control group: n = 22; 15 females) underwent neuromuscular assessment. Surface electromyography measured bilateral muscle activity in the upper trapezius (UT) and abductor pollicis brevis (APB) muscles during smartphone use. Secondary outcomes included the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to assess pain intensity, hand grip strength, New York Posture Rating Scale (NYPRS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire. The Text Neck group demonstrated significantly higher smartphone use (p < 0.001), higher texting time (p = 0.006), and lower muscle activation at activity in the dominant APB (p = 0.011), dominant UT (p < 0.001), and non-dominant UT (p = 0.008). These findings provide novel insights into how excessive smartphone use alters muscle function and postural alignment in individuals with text-neck syndrome. Uluslararası Düzeyde Hemşirelik Lisans Öğrencilerinin Beceri Eğitiminde Akran Desteği: Bir Öğretme ve Öğrenme Yönteminin Değerlendirilmesi
Amaç: Bu çalışma, ulusal ve yabancı öğrencilerden oluşan birinci sınıf öğrencilerine yönelik beceri eğitiminde akran destek yöntemini değerlendirmeyi amaçlamıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu karma yöntem çalışmasına, İngilizce hemşirelik eğitimi veren Türkiye'deki bir vakıf üniversitesinin hemşirelik lisans programına kayıtlı hemşirelik öğrencileri (n=106) dahil edilmiştir. Çalışma, 2023-2024 akademik yılı Bahar Dönemi’nde girişim ve kontrol gruplu (Standart Grup, n=52; Akran Destek Grubu, n=54) olarak yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada, parenteral ilaç dozu hesaplama ve hesaplanan dozu önceden seyreltilmiş kullanıma hazır bir flakondan çekme (Beceri 1) ve intramüsküler enjeksiyon uygulama (Beceri 2) becerileri ele alınmıştır. Katılımcıların yönteme ilişkin deneyimlerini değerlendirmek üzere girişim grubu katılımcılarıyla (n=10) odak grup görüşmesi yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmanın katılımcılarının %80,2'si kadın olup %67,0'ını ulusal ve %33,0’ını uluslararası öğrenciler oluşturmuştur. Genel beceri sınavı ve her iki becerinin puanları girişim grubunda daha yüksek olmasına karşın, gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır (Toplam beceri, p=0,382; Beceri 1, p=0,797; Beceri 2, p=0,189). Beceri 1’in ilaç dozunu doğru hesaplama adımı her iki grupta da düşük puan almıştır (p=0,254). Girişim grubu katılımcılarının yönteme ilişkin memnuniyet düzeyi 9,07±1,26'dır. Nitel yanıtlar “Güvenlik ve Konfor”, “Öğretme ve Öğrenme”, “Motivasyon”, “İletişim”, “Bilgi ve Deneyim” ve “Süreç Yönetimi” ana kategorilerinde gruplandırılmıştır. Sonuç: Beceri 1 ve Beceri 2 puanları genel olarak orta düzeyde olarak yorumlanabilir. İstatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark olmamasına karşın puanlar girişim grubu lehine yüksektir
Sexual Problems of Women with Kidney Transplant: A Qualitative Study
Yildirim Varişoğlu, Yeliz/0000-0002-6350-7218Objective: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences, perspectives, and challenges faced by women who underwent kidney transplantation, particularly regarding the impact of transplantation on their own and their partner's sexual lives. Methods: The study was conducted with 15 women who had received kidney transplants at a private hospital in & Idot;stanbul. Data were gathered using a two-part semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher based on a review of the relevant literature. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis. Data analysis was carried out concurrently with data collection. This study adhered to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research. Results: Based on a thematic analysis of the interviews, four main themes emerged: concerns about reproductive health, including subthemes of fear of infertility and anxiety about pregnancy; disease-associated sexual reluctance, including subthemes of reduced sexual interest, fatigue, weakness, sleep disturbances, and depression; perception of femininity and body image, including subthemes of feelings of incompleteness and inadequacy; concerns about the spouse/partner, including subthemes of fears about being unable to meet the sexual needs of the spouse/partner and feelings of guilt related to their partner's sexual dissatisfaction. Conclusion: In conclusion, sexual dysfunction continues to persist among women even after kidney transplantation due to various physical and psychological factors. To support patients in maintaining a healthy sexual life as part of their overall well-being, sexual health should be routinely assessed by a multidisciplinary team, including transplant surgeons, surgical and obstetric/ gynecology nurses, and psychologists
Federal Reserve Interest Rates, Investment Behavior, and Arbitrage in Exchange Traded-Funds
This study investigates the influence of U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate policy on investor behavior, liquidity, and arbitrage efficiency in 29 iShares exchange-traded funds (ETFs) spanning large-, mid-, and small-cap benchmarks from 2013 to 2024. Using weekly data and econometric techniques combining time-series and panel approaches, the analysis incorporates key macroeconomic indicators, interest rates, the U.S. dollar index, economic activity measures, and market volatility to assess their combined effect on ETF market dynamics. Findings show that interest rate shifts significantly influence asset allocation, sector preferences, and risk tolerance, with higher rates often strengthening the dollar and increasing the appeal of fixed-income assets. Active trading is associated with narrower bid-ask spreads through enhanced liquidity, while passive investment widens spreads. ETF volatility is positively related to spreads, reflecting increased uncertainty and transaction costs in turbulent markets. The results provide empirical evidence on the behavioral channels linking monetary policy, market conditions, and trading efficiency, offering implications for policymakers, asset managers, and market participants. The major contribution of the study is to the empirical finance literature by integrating time-series and panel econometric methods to quantify the joint effects of interest rate policy, macroeconomic indicators, and investor sentiment on ETF market microstructure. Findings offer statistically robust insights into liquidity formation, volatility transmission, and arbitrage efficiency in diversified ETF markets
Pre-Service Physical Education Teachers' Teacher Identity Scale (PPET-TI): Adaptation Study to Turkish Culture
In Turkey, the lack of measures for assessing the teacher identity of pre-service physical education teachers remains a significant challenge. Developing quantitative instruments grounded in a robust theoretical framework is crucial, as such tools would not only advance research in this field but also contribute to improving the quality of physical education teacher education. This study aims to test the reliability and validity of the Pre-service Physical Education Teachers' Teacher Identity Scale (PPET-TI) to Turkish pre-service physical education teachers. The PPET-TI is a 7-point Likert-type scale comprising 17 items and three subscales: self-definitions, teaching goals, and professional responsibilities. Two hundred fifty pre-service physical education teachers (96 females and 154 males; (x) over bar (age) = 21.25 +/- 2.36) voluntarily participated in the study. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) were conducted to evaluate the construct validity. The results of the CFA indicated that S-B chi(2)/df 1.90, CFI 0.95, TLI 0.94, RMSEA 0.06, and SRMR 0.05. The results of the ESEM indicated that S-B chi(2)/df 2.79, CFI 0.98, TLI 0.97, RMSEA 0.08, and SRMR 0.03. The item factor loadings ranged from 0.58 to 0.97 in the CFA and ranged from 0.45 to 0.82 in the ESEM. The findings indicated that the scale exhibited both discriminant and convergent validity, with CR and Cronbach's alpha being strong. An evaluation of the fit indices, item factor loadings, and inter-item relationships revealed that the CFA results were more consistent with the original structure of the scale. Based on all the findings, it can be concluded that the Turkish version of the scale is suitable for assessing the teacher identities of pre-service physical education teachers
Effect of Inspiratory Muscle Training on Diaphragm Function and Activity Performance in Subacute Ischemic Stroke Patients: A Single-Blind Randomized-Controlled Trial
Background: Respiratory dysfunction is common after stroke and may negatively affect functional recovery. Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) has been proposed to enhance diaphragmatic function and activity performance in this population. Objective: To investigate the effects of IMT on diaphragm function and activity performance in patients with subacute ischemic stroke. Methods: In this randomized controlled, single-blind trial, 26 patients with subacute ischemic stroke (>1 month post-onset) were randomly allocated to an intervention group (IG, n = 13) or control group (CG, n = 13). Both groups received standard neurorehabilitation, aerobic training, and the Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT). The IG additionally underwent IMT, 5 days per week for 6 weeks (30 sessions). Assessments included maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP, MEP), diaphragmatic thickness (Ti, Te) and excursion via ultrasonography, 6-minute walk test (6MWT), and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). Results: Twenty-two participants completed the study (IG = 11; CG = 11). Significant within-group improvements were observed in both groups for MIP, MEP, Ti, TF, excursion, 6MWT, and COPM scores (P .05). Conclusions: IMT effectively improves respiratory muscle strength, diaphragmatic thickness, and excursion in subacute ischemic stroke and may be a valuable addition to post-stroke rehabilitation programs. Montelukast Attenuates Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in Rats: Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Effects
Objective: Oxidative stress and inflammation are widely recognized as central mechanisms in the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysm. This study sought to examine the potential protective properties of montelukast in a rat model of aortic aneurysm. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated into three experimental groups. Abdominal aortic aneurysm was induced using the calcium chloride (CaCl2) model, in which gauze soaked in 0.5 M CaCl2 was placed directly onto the adventitial surface of the infrarenal abdominal aorta for 15 minutes. After induction, the treatment group received daily intraperitoneal injections of montelukast (10 mg/kg) for 4 consecutive weeks. At the study end point, animals were euthanized, and infrarenal aortic tissues were harvested for biochemical and histological evaluations. Measured parameters included matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 expression, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, and 8-hydroxy-2 '-deoxyguanosine levels. Antioxidant capacity was assessed through superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity assays. Histopathological examinations were performed, and statistical analysis was conducted using GraphPad Prism v.5. Results: Exposure to CaCl2 triggered pronounced oxidative injury and inflammation, as evidenced by elevated 8-hydroxy-2 '-deoxyguanosine levels, increased MPO activity, reduced SOD activity, and upregulated MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression. Montelukast administration markedly attenuated these changes, normalizing oxidative and inflammatory markers while improving histopathological architecture. Conclusions: Montelukast effectively counteracted CaCl2-induced aortic damage. The protective effects of montelukast appear to be mediated through suppression of MMP activity, restoration of SOD levels, and reduction of MPO-driven oxidative injury. By mitigating both inflammatory and oxidative mechanisms, montelukast contributes to the preservation of aortic wall structure. Clinical Relevance: Abdominal aortic aneurysm remains a major vascular disorder without an effective pharmacological therapy to slow its progression. In this experimental study, montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist widely used in asthma, attenuated abdominal aortic aneurysm formation in rats and was associated with increased superoxide dismutase activity, reduced myeloperoxidase levels, and suppressed matrix metalloproteinase activation. These combined antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and matrix-stabilizing effects preserved aortic wall integrity. Given montelukast's established safety and clinical availability, these findings support its potential for future clinical investigation as a pharmacological approach to limit aneurysm progression.
