The Representation of Matilda in Turkish Culture by Way of Translation
Çocuk edebiyatı çevirisi uzun geçmişi boyunca yetişkinler, bilim insanları ve yayımcılar tarafından göz ardı edilmiştir. Fakat 1970'li yıllar; değişen toplumsal tutumlar, çeviri teorisindeki ilerlemeler ve yayıncılık endüstrisindeki eğilimler nedeniyle çocuk edebiyatı çevirilerinin tanınması ve takdir edilmesinde bir dönüm noktası olmuştur. O zamandan bu yana, alan büyümeye ve gelişmeye devam etmiştir. Bu çalışmada dünyanın en çok sevilen çocuk edebiyatı yazarlarından olan Roald Dahl'ın Matilda (1988) adlı eseri ve Lale Akalın tarafından yapılmış çevirisi incelenmiştir. Çeviri analizi Venuti'nin yerelleştirme ve yabancılaştırma yaklaşımları altında sınıflandırılan Vinay ve Darbelnet'in yöntemlerine göre yapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, kaynak metinden seçilen 36 cümlenin hedef metine nasıl aktarıldığı detaylı bir şekilde incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, Matilda'nın hedef metinde aslına benzer bir imge olarak yansıtıldığı, çevirmenin çeviri sürecinde hem yerelleştirme hem de yabancılaştırma tekniklerini uyguladığı, ancak daha hedef odaklı bir çeviri tercih ettiği belirlenmiştir.Throughout its long history, translation of children's literature has been ignored by adults, scholars, and publishers. However, the 1970s was a turning point in the recognition and appreciation of the translation of children's literature due to changing social attitudes, advances in translation theory, and trends in the publishing industry. In this study, Matilda (1988) by Roald Dahl, one of the world's most popular children's literature authors, and its translation by Lale Akalın were examined. Translation analysis was carried out based on Vinay and Darbelnet's procedures which are classified under Venuti's domestication and foreignization approaches. In this regard, how 36 sentences selected from the source text were transferred to the target text was examined in detail. As a result of the study, it was determined that Matilda was reflected as an image similar to that of the original in the target text, the translator applied both domestication and foreignization techniques in the translation process, but preferred a more target-oriented translation
Calcium Carbonate/Polydopamine Composite Nanoplatform Based on Tgf-Β Blockade for Comfortable Cancer Immunotherapy
Ramalingam, Murugan/0000-0001-6498-9792Cancer pain seriously reduces the quality of life of cancer patients. However, most research about cancer focuses solely on inhibiting tumor growth, neglecting the issue of cancer pain. Therefore, the development of therapeutic agents with both tumor suppression and cancer pain relief is crucial to achieve human-centered treatment. Here, the work reports curcumin (CUR) and ropivacaine (Ropi) coincorporating CaCO3/PDA nanoparticles (CaPNMCUR+Ropi) that realized efficient tumor immunotherapy and cancer pain suppression. The therapeutic efficiency and mechanism are revealed in vitro and in vivo. The results indicate that CaPNMCUR+Ropi underwent tumor microenvironment-responsive degradation and realized rapid release of calcium ions, Ropi, and CUR. The excessive intracellular calcium triggered the apoptosis of tumor cells, and the transient pain caused by the tumor injection was relieved by Ropi. Simultaneously, CUR reduced the levels of immunosuppressive factor (TGF-beta) and inflammatory factor (IL-6, IL-1 beta, and TNF-alpha) in the tumor microenvironment, thereby continuously augmenting the immune response and alleviating inflammatory pain of cancer animals. Meanwhile, the decrease of TGF-beta leads to the reduction of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) expression, thereby alleviating hyperalgesia and achieving long-lasting analgesic effects. Predictors and Mediators of Pressure/Tension in University Students' Distance Learning During the Covid-19 Pandemic: a Self-Determination Theory Perspective
Manuoglu, Elif/0000-0003-3652-321X; Gungor, Elis/0000-0003-0185-4246Due to the global restrictions to decrease the risk of infection in classrooms, the transition from face-to-face education to distance learning was a necessity during the Covid-19 pandemic. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, the present research sought to explore how the pandemic affects university students during distance learning. Specifically, the study examined the predictors of pressure/tension and attempted to identify the unique and mediator roles of correlates of pressure/tension of university students. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 432 university students from different departments of different universities in Turkey. The online survey was administered between the last week of October and the second week of December 2020. Our findings revealed that there is a positive association between pressure/tension and Covid-specific worry. Also, there is a negative association between learning climate and pressure/tension and between perceived competence and pressure/tension. Further, learning climate mediated the link between Covid-specific worry and pressure/tension. The data of the present study depends on students' academic (learning climate) and also non-academic (Covid worry) experiences during the pandemic. Design of a Ratio Control Algorithm for a Fluid Catalytic Cracking System in an Universal Oil Product Context

At the core of this investigation is the endeavor to derive a comprehensive mathematical model that captures the essence of mass and energy balances within a UOP fluid catalytic cracking unit. The study's central objective is to explore and apply a ratio control algorithm in two distinct operational scenarios. In the first scenario, the ratio controller is strategically positioned after the control valve for the regenerator's input air, while in the second, it precedes the control valve. The primary focus here is the meticulous control of outlet temperatures for both the riser and regenerator reactors. Leveraging the capabilities of MATLAB software, the research methodically simulates the fluid catalytic cracking process. It introduces variables such as the gas oil feed rate, along with the temperatures of the gas oil feed and air, to rigorously test the efficacy of the proposed ratio control algorithm. The results of this investigation reveal a notable superiority of the ratio control in case one over case two. In the riser and regenerator reactors, this advantage is demonstrated by improved stability and operational efficiency, as evidenced by lower integral absolute error (IAE) readings and a quicker approach to the intended setpoint temperatures
A Novel Hybrid Machine Learning-Based System Using Deep Learning Techniques and Meta-Heuristic Algorithms for Various Medical Datatypes Classification
Mishra, Alok/0000-0003-1275-2050Medicine is one of the fields where the advancement of computer science is making significant progress. Some diseases require an immediate diagnosis in order to improve patient outcomes. The usage of computers in medicine improves precision and accelerates data processing and diagnosis. In order to categorize biological images, hybrid machine learning, a combination of various deep learning approaches, was utilized, and a meta-heuristic algorithm was provided in this research. In addition, two different medical datasets were introduced, one covering the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain tumors and the other dealing with chest X-rays (CXRs) of COVID-19. These datasets were introduced to the combination network that contained deep learning techniques, which were based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) or autoencoder, to extract features and combine them with the next step of the meta-heuristic algorithm in order to select optimal features using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. This combination sought to reduce the dimensionality of the datasets while maintaining the original performance of the data. This is considered an innovative method and ensures highly accurate classification results across various medical datasets. Several classifiers were employed to predict the diseases. The COVID-19 dataset found that the highest accuracy was 99.76% using the combination of CNN-PSO-SVM. A 30-Year Journey of Hospitality and Tourism Research: a Comprehensive Topic Modeling Analysis
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the research conducted on hospitality and tourism articles published in Q1 category journals from 1990 to 2023. This study also aims to measure the topic prevalence in selected journals throughout the years, their change over time and similarities of journals.Design/methodology/approachLatent dirichlet allocation algorithm is used as a topic modeling method to identify and analyze topics in hospitality and tourism research over the past 30 years.FindingsThe results of the study indicate that hospitality and tourism research has recently focused on topics such as employee behavior, customer satisfaction, online reviews, medical tourism and tourist experience. However, the results also indicate a negative trend in topics such as hotel management, sustainability, profession, economic growth and tourist destination.Practical implicationsThis study can be used to examine the evolution of research patterns over time, find hot and cold themes and uncover untapped or understudied areas. This can aid academics in their investigations and practitioners in making sound strategic decisions.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the existing literature by providing a new approach and comprehensive analysis of hospitality and tourism research topics. It delineates an overview of the progression of hospitality and tourism research over the past 30 years, identifies the trending topics and explores the potential impacts that these identified topics may have on future studies
Chemical Composition Optimization and Isothermal Transformation of Δ-Transformation Plasticity Steel for the Third-Generation Advanced High-Strength Steel Grade
A new low-manganese transformation-induced plasticity steel is designed with optimized nickel content to achieve superior strength and ductility while minimizing the use of expensive nickel. The steel is optimized using JMatPro software, then cast, and hot rolled. To assess the effect of intercritical annealing on austenite (martensite at room temperature) volume fraction and carbon content, hot-rolled steel samples quenched from different annealing temperatures (680-1100 degrees C) are used. Additionally, hot-rolled steel coupons are intercritically annealed at about 50% austenite formation temperature (740 degrees C) and then subjected to isothermal treatments at 300-425 degrees C for varying times (10-90 min). After optimizing these treatments to maximize retained austenite (RA), tensile specimens are heat-treated first at 740 degrees C and then isothermally at 325 degrees C. Thermodynamic calculations suggest that aluminum combined with silicon may lead to the delta ferrite formation, and even minimal nickel content can stabilize a considerable amount of austenite. In the experimental studies, it is shown that lower-temperature bainitic holding enhances austenite stability by enriching the carbon content. Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticle-Immobilized Antibacterial Anion-Exchange Membranes for Salinity Gradient Energy Production by Reverse Electrodialysis
Güler, Enver/0000-0001-9175-0920Biofouling, stemming from the attachment of living microorganisms, such as bacteria, which form resilient biofilms on membrane surfaces, presents a significant challenge that hampers the efficiency of anion-exchange membranes (AEMs) in reverse electrodialysis (RED) applications. This limitation curtails the generation of electrical power from salinity gradients, which notably is a sustainable form of energy known as osmotic energy. RED stands as a clean and promising process to harness this renewable energy source. This study aimed to impart antibacterial activity to synthesized AEMs by using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). For that purpose, AgNPs were synthesized at 30 degree celsius using two different pH values (6.0 and 9.0) and immobilized into synthesized AEMs using the dip-coating technique. In nanoparticle synthesis, ascorbic acid and trisodium citrate were used as a reductant and a stabilizer, respectively, to take control of the particle size and agglomeration behavior. The results indicated that AgNPs synthesized at pH 6.0 were dispersed on the AEM surface without agglomeration. The stability of AgNPs immobilized on the membrane surface was tested under low- and high-saline solutions. The antibacterial activities of AEMs were determined with the colony-counting method using Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacterial suspension. The Effect of a Light-Dark Cycle on Premature Infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: a Randomized Controlled Study
Purpose: To investigate potential differences in discharge time, feeding methods and amounts, daily weight gain, vital signs, pain, and comfort levels among preterm infants born at 28–32 weeks' gestation who were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit during long-term follow-up while implementing a light-dark cycle. Design and methods: This is a randomized controlled study conducted with the support of a day-night cycle in premature infants born at 28–32 weeks' gestation and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a teaching and research hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health. The study compared the follow-up results from hospitalization to discharge over a period of 8 weeks. Results: 50% of premature infants admitted to the unit are multiple pregnancies. There was no significant difference in discharge weight, comfort level, pain level, vital signs of the infants included in the study (p > 0.05). The optimal development of infant feeding patterns was examinedand it was observed that the study group had significantly improved before the control group in terms of the time to switch to full enteral feeding and oral feeding (p < 0,05). The daily weight gain of the babies was examined, it was seen that the weight gain was higher in the study group compared to the control group (p < 0,05). The mean duration of hospitalization was compared, it was seen that the babies in the study group were discharged significantly earlier (p < 0,05). Conclusion: The study compared the long-term outcomes of premature babies hospitalized in neonatal intensive care and babies exposed to a light-dark cycle and regularly monitored in standard care. The results showed that the babies in the study group had higher daily weight gain and were discharged earlier than the control group. There were also no statistically significant differences in comfort and pain scores, vital signs or oxygen saturation between the study and control groups. Practice implications: A light-dark cycle was found to be a feasible and promising intervention for infants at 28–32 weeks' gestation. It was a nurse-led management of care that could be integrated into the usual care of 28–32-week-old babies in neonatal units. © 202

The usage of autonomous agricultural machines is increasing. In this study, two controllers have been designed for trajectory following and longitudinal tire slip ratio control of a rear-wheel independent traction electric autonomous tractor. The first controller is model predictive control (MPC) and the second controller is proportional integral derivative (PID) based. To evaluate the performance of the controllers in the simulation environment, a mathematical tractor model is prepared.
