Marshall Plan or a Mediator: The Intellectual Structure of the Management Studies in Europe
This study aims at examining the role of European Management Review (EMR) within the on-going paradigmatic debates between Europe and North America concerning management and organisational research. Ten years worth of bibliometric data of the journal was gathered. Citation patterns of EMR authors were analysed according to which journals they preferred to refer to more frequently. Citation patterns of authors from sub-regions of Europe were also compared to test whether heterogeneity exists in terms of academic resource usage. The findings highlight that EMR has successfully constructed a bridge between research traditions of two continents. Qualitative, macro and theoretical articles, which are significant characteristics of the European paradigm, have a considerable rate of acceptance in EMR. Besides obeying local rules of scientific inquiry, the majority of European authors have decided to use influential North American journals. EMR has partially found a way to unify the fragmented research efforts in different parts of Europe.Social Science Citation Inde
Investigation of Hepatitis E Virus Seroprevalence and Risk Factors in Hemodialysis Patients
Background: Hemodialysis patients are at increased risk for hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection due to their immunocompromised status and frequent exposure to invasive medical procedures. HEV can lead to chronic infections and severe complications, particularly in high-risk populations. This study aimed to determine HEV-IgG seroprevalence among hemodialysis patients in Ankara, Turkey, and evaluate associated risk factors. Methods: A total of 160 hemodialysis patients from three private dialysis centers in Ankara were included in this prospective, cross-sectional study. Anti-HEV-IgG antibodies were detected using the ELISA method. Demographic characteristics and potential risk factors, including dialysis duration, comorbidities, blood transfusion history, drinking water source, dietary habits, and involvement in animal husbandry, were assessed via structured surveys. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS Version 22.0, with Pearson's chi-square and Fisher's exact tests applied to categorical variables. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent risk factors for HEV seropositivity. Results: HEV-IgG seropositivity was detected in 42 patients (26.25%). Seroprevalence increased significantly with age, rising from 6.7% in patients under 55 years to 47.4% in those over 65 years (p 5 years) was also significantly associated with HEV seropositivity (p = 0.02). However, no significant associations were found between HEV seropositivity and gender, blood transfusion history, source of drinking water, consumption of raw meat, or involvement in animal husbandry (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The HEV-IgG seroprevalence among hemodialysis patients in Ankara was higher than previously reported rates in Turkey. Age and prolonged dialysis duration emerged as significant risk factors, underscoring the importance of screening and preventive strategies in this vulnerable population. Further multi-regional studies are needed to better understand HEV transmission dynamics and improve management strategies in hemodialysis patients.Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Inde
Effect of Atomic Charges on C2H2/Co2 Separation Performances of Covalent-Organic Framework Adsorbents
A critical factor for the accuracy of computational screening studies is the method employed to assign atomic charges. While chemically meaningful atomic charges can be obtained using a quantum chemistry method-based charge assignment technique (density-derived electrostatic and chemical method (DDEC6)), its application to large material datasets remains computationally demanding. As an alternative, machine-learning (ML) models can offer the ability to determine atomic charges with high accuracy and speed. Herein, two ML models, Partial Atomic Charge Predicter for Porous Materials based on Graph Convolutional Neural Network (PACMAN) and Partial Atomic Charges in Metal-Organic Frameworks (PACMOF), are utilized to predict atomic charges in Clean, Uniform, Refined with Automatic Tracking from Experimental Database (CURATED) covalent-organic frameworks (COFs). The predicted atomic charges are used in simulations to assess COFs' C2H2/CO2/CH4 separation performances in comparison with reference DDEC6-based performances. Results show PACMAN charges can more effectively reproduce DDEC6-based charges and corresponding separation performance metrics, underscoring their suitability for high-throughput material screening. Additionally, the proportions of Coulombic interactions to van der Waals interactions are systematically analyzed, revealing substantial variation across both narrow and wide pores. This study highlights that ML models can be applied to obtain atomic charges that could enable attaining accurate material performance evaluations. © 2025 The Author(s). Translating Manga: A Culture-Specific Approach
The subject of this research is a very popular manga, 'Attack on Titan'. The study will be based on analyzing its style, which was originally translated into English from Japanese, structure, and cultural context and the influence of these factors on the translation process and the translator. Manga presents challenges without comparison due to its visual factors and cultural details, making translation a more complex process. Using Aixela's concept of anisomorphism and Zohar's polysystem theory, the research explores the impact of cultural elements on translation, also the understanding of the target audience by looking into and understanding the cultures by using the aforementioned theories. Additionally, Newmark's approach to translation provides a framework for analyzing the details of translation and the potential loss in the meaning. This research hypothesizes that the culture-specific and universal elements, which are emotions or concepts that can be understood across all cultures, in manga challenge translators with the risk of simplification, audience expectation, metaphorical differences, hence affecting the loyalty of the translation to the source and its understanding in the target culture and contributes to translation studies by examining the delicate process of translation, focusing on the cultural-specific approach. The research studies on the cultural, political, sociological, and psychological elements in Attack on Titan and the translation methods used by using qualitative analysis. It is assumed that the translators of manga try to stick to the norms, such as page layout, culture – specific items, publishing guidelines, genre conventions, most of the time but also tries to discover new ways. The study is limited to Attack on Titan for a detailed examination. The literature review emphasizes manga's cultural significance and the hardships involved in its translation, providing a theoretical foundation for the research. The findings look for advanced understanding of cultural translation in manga and its implications for translation theory and practice
AI Trustworthiness and Student Pilots: Exploring Attitudes, Anxieties, and Adaptation Performance
This research explores the attitudes of student pilots toward artificial intelligence (AI) applications within the aviation sector, with a focus on their adaptation processes and potential challenges. The recent release of the "EASA AI Roadmap 2.0"by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) underscores the growing impact of AI on aviation, driving the emergence of new business models and emphasizing a human-centric approach to AI integration within the aviation industry. This study addresses a significant gap in the literature by examining student pilots' perspectives on AI, specifically focusing on AI trustworthiness, attitudes, anxieties, and adaptation performance. The study utilizes a quantitative research approach, collecting data from 150 student pilots through surveys. Preliminary results from 106 respondents indicate varied attitudes toward AI, with significant implications for AI-supported cockpit assistant systems and the broader aviation industry. The study sample consisted of 106 (Mage = 23.6, SDage= 4.64; 79% male) student pilots from of university pilot training departments and various flight school in Turkey. Collected data were analyzed on SPSS 29. The study revealed that Sociotechnical Blindness AI anxiety is a significant predictor of general attitudes toward AI among student pilots. This finding suggests that higher levels of anxiety related to the perceived complexity and potential unintended consequences of AI are associated with more positive general attitudes toward AI. The findings emphasize the need for a human-centric approach to AI integration, highlighting the importance of trust, transparency, and adaptive training in the successful adoption of AI technologies in aviation. © 2024 The Authors. Turkish Nurses' Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices in the Management of Incontinence Associated Dermatitis: a Descriptive and Cross-Sectional Study
Sonmez, Munevver/0000-0001-7646-1864Objective: This study aimed to determine nurses' current knowledge, attitudes, and practices in adult intensive care units and palliative care clinics regarding incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). Materials and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 355 nurses in adult intensive care and palliative services at two hospitals. Data were collected between 5.03.2022 and 15.06.2022 using the" Nurse Demographic Form" and the "Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Nurses in Managing Incontinence- Associated Dermatitis Questionnaire". Results: The nurses' mean scores for "Knowledge of IAD Etiology and Diagnosis" were 19.11 (SD 3.29), mean scores for "Knowledge of IAD Risk Factors" were 23.82 (SD 4.27), mean scores for "Attitude Toward IAD Prevention" were 10.1 (SD 2.49), and mean scores for "Practices for IAD Prevention" were 23.71 (SD 3.97). It was found that nurses who used a risk assessment tool to diagnose IAD (p = 0.001), had a procedure or protocol (p = 0.001), and received training on IAD (p < 0.001) had significantly higher "Attitude Towards Prevention of IAD" scores. There was a positive correlation between the number of patients with IAD cared for by the nurses participating in the study and the scores of "Practices to Prevent IAD"and "Knowledge of IAD Risk Factors", "Knowledge of IAD Etiology and Diagnosis"and "Attitude Towards Preventing IAD"(p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study found that intensive care and palliative care nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding IAD were insufficient. Considering that IAD is encountered more frequently in these units, it is essential to provide continuous and practical training to nurses about IAD, use risk assessment tools to prevent and treat IAD, determine protocols, establish clinical guidelines, and implement and standardize them.Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Inde
The Effect of Instant Stimulation To Kidney 3 Acupuncture Point on DPOAE Responses in Patients With Tinnitus
Introduction Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ear or brain in the absence of any external stimulation. Theories regarding tinnitus pathology often involve both cochlear involvement and central regions. Different and alternative medical treatment options have been widely used to help individuals suffering from tinnitus. Objective This study aims to investigate the effect of instant stimulation to the Kidney 3 (KI3) acupuncture point on distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) in patients with tinnitus. Material and Method Thirty patients (21 male, 9 female) with subjective tinnitus and normal hearing were included in the study. A total of 39 ears (22 left ears, 17 right ears) were evaluated. After audiological evaluations, the effects of instantaneous stimulation of the bilateral KI3 acupuncture point on DPOAE at frequencies ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 Hz were measured. Results There was a significant difference between amplitudes before and during acupuncture application at all tested frequencies, except at 4,000 Hz in patients with tinnitus in the right ear. There was also a significant difference between amplitudes of before and after acupuncture application at 3,000 and 4,000 Hz in patients with tinnitus in the left ear. Lower amplitude was observed at these frequencies compared with before the application. In patients with bilateral tinnitus, there was a significant amplitude difference between before and during application at 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000 Hz frequencies for the left ear. Conclusion Instant stimulation to the KI3 acupuncture point changed DPOAE amplitude values in patients with tinnitus.Science Citation Index Expande
Ε-Constraint Procedures for Pareto Front Optimization of Large Size Discrete Time/Cost Trade-Off Problem
Aminbakhsh, SamanThe discrete time/cost trade-off problem (DTCTP) optimizes the project duration and/or cost while considering the trade-off between activity durations and their direct costs. The complete and non-dominated time-cost profile over the set of feasible project durations is achieved within the framework of Pareto front problem. Despite the importance of Pareto front optimization in project and portfolio management, exact procedures have achieved very limited success in solving the problem for large size instances. This study develops exact procedures based on combinations of mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), epsilon-constraint method, network and problem reduction techniques, and present new bounding strategies to solve the Pareto problem for large size instances. This study also provides new large size benchmark problem instances aiming to represent the size of real-life projects for the DTCTP. The new instances, therefore, are generated to include up to 990 activities and nine execution modes. Computational experiments reveal that the procedures presented herein can remarkably outperform the state-of-the-art exact methods. The new exact procedures enabled obtaining the optimal Pareto front for instances with serial networks that include more than 200 activities for the first time.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [213M253]We gratefully acknowledge the financial support provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) , under Grant No. 213M253.Science Citation Index Expande
A Comparative Study on the Translation of Fantasy Literature: A Bermanian Analysis of the Turkish Translation of Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné
Literary translation is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, forms of translation. As human civilization has found itself diversifying through time, so have literary genres; and the approaches to translating them. One such genre is the fantasy genre. This genre, with many idiosyncratic characteristics, has a rather dubious place in the literary world, which leads to its regard within translatory efforts being of generally understated importance. To present a case study on fantasy literature translation, this thesis focuses on the unique presentation of Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga, and compares the source text to Altıkırkbeş Yayın's Turkish translation of the saga. This research was based on the hypothesis that the target text was not delivered to the Turkish readership in a manner that kept true to the source text's intended atmospheric and linguistic totality, therefore concluding a lacking intrinsic integrity for the end product. Based on qualitative data regarding metatextual readings of the fantasy genre, Antoine Berman's Translation Criticism, and supported with Lawrence Venuti's Domestication and Foreignization Methods, this research sought to compile a comparative analysis of the source and target texts to defend the hypothesis
