Demographic Features, Clinical Characteristics, and Comorbid Relation in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: a Population-Based Study
Background/objective Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting apocrine gland areas, characterized by painful nodules and abscesses that may result in sinus tracts and scarring. The global prevalence of HS is increasing due to heightened awareness, improved diagnostic methods, rising obesity rates, and higher smoking prevalence. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological, clinical, and comorbid characteristics of HS patients.Methodology This retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study included 193 outpatients aged between 15 and 73 years who visited a tertiary HS clinic between 2017 and 2022. Demographic, clinical, and comorbid characteristics were recorded and analyzed using chi-square and ordinal regression methods.Results The mean age was 34.5 +/- 12.1 years, with a mean disease duration of 5.9 +/- 6.7 years. According to the Hurley classification, 61.1, 24.4, and 14.5% were stages I, II, and III, respectively. Comorbidities were present in 48.2% of patients, with psychiatric disorders (19.2%), diabetes mellitus (14%), and hypertension (9.3%) being most common. Disease duration, smoking, male gender, and atypical localization were associated with increased disease severity.Conclusion Geographic and cultural factors influence the prevalence, severity, and management of HS, necessitating tailored treatment. Effective management requires multidisciplinary screening for early detection and prevention of comorbidities, including psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular conditions, and metabolic syndrome.The author(s) declare that no financial support was received for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.Science Citation Index Expande
School Principals’ Informal Learning Styles, Strategies, Resources, and the Leading Reasons of Informal Learning in the Research Context in Türkiye
This study investigates school principals’ informal learning styles, strategies, resources, and the leading reasons of informal learning in the research context in Türkiye. According to the findings, school principals focus on self-directed learning among informal learning styles besides social and random learning. By means of informal learning, school administrators become more competent in solving many issues such as adaptation problems of refugee children, school absenteeism, academic failures of disadvantaged children, high expectations of parents, and sudden departures of teachers in private schools. The lack of quality and quantity of formal training results in using informal learning strategies for professional development. © The Author(s) 2025
Using Evolutionary Algorithms and Group Method of Data Handling Ann for Prediction of the Viscosity Mwcnt-Zno /Oil Sae 50 Nano-Lubricant
Sawaran Singh, Narinderjit Singh/0000-0001-7067-5239This study looked at ANNs' ability to predict the rheological properties of MWCNT-ZNO / Oil SAE 50 nano lubricant. Five artificial intelligence algorithms-Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), Support vector machine (SVM), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP)-were employed in this work to forecast this nanofluid. The most optimum objective function (mu nf) as an output is the foundation of algorithms used in artificial intelligence. This capacity is developed so that the values predicted by ANN were more consistent with the laboratory numbers by combining GMDH with the metaheuristic approach. This combination enables the metaheuristic algorithm to optimize the evaluation indices and get the predicted data closer to the experimental data by using the GMDH activation parameters as input. For optimization, three metaheuristic algorithms are used, and the combination of GMDH and MOGWO produced the best results. Heat Transfer and Entropy Investigation of Non-Newtonian Nanofluid Mixed Convection in a Cubic Cavity With a Wavy Bottom Wall Under the Influence of a Magnetic Field
1)Background: This article reports 3D simulations of nanofluid motion within a three-dimensional cubic cavity occupied with a permeable medium. It was supposed that the motion region holds a hot spinning cylinder and has a wavy bottom plane with various undulation values. Also, the domain was separated into two levels., namely, the permeable layer and the power-law nanofluid layer. 2)Methods: The worked mixture is a non-Newtonian liquid, and the magnetic impacts are analyzed. The (FEM) with a triangle-shaped part form was used to resolve the governing formulas. The results were demonstrated for a variety of motion factors, including the cylinder's angular velocity (Omega = 0 to 2000), Hartmann number (Ha= 0-10), power-law index (n= 0.8, 1 and 1.4), and undulation numbers (N= 1 to 4). The effects of the different factors on motion, heat transmission, and entropy formation are illustrated in stream function, isotherms, and isentropic contours. Postpartum Balance and Kinesiophobia in Cesarean Delivery: Impact of Abdominal Fascial Scars
Considering that the incisions made during cesarean delivery may damage subcutaneous tissue and fascia, and pelvic floor muscle contractions are effective in femoral head movements, it is hypothesized that the mode of delivery may have an impact on balance and kinesiophobia. This study aimed to investigate the effect of cesarean delivery on balance, kinesiophobia, and body awareness.A total of 70 women participated in the study. Demographic and obstetric data of the participants were recorded. Thoracolumbar fascia was assessed using a goniometric platform, trunk flexibility with the Modified Schober test, static balance with the Flamingo Balance test, and dynamic balance with the Y Balance Test. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia was used to evaluate movement fear, and the Body Awareness Questionnaire was used to assess body awareness.No significant differences were found between cesarean and vaginal deliveries in terms of thoracolumbar fascia assessment, static balance, or dynamic balance measurements (p>0.05). In women who delivered vaginally, dynamic balance was observed to decrease with advancing age (p0.05). However, in women who delivered vaginally, body awareness decreased with age (p<0.05). In conclusion, the study found that cesarean scars had no adverse effects on balance, kinesiophobia, or body awareness. Nevertheless, further research focusing on balance is recommended.Science Citation Index Expande
Amputasyon Planlanan Periferik Arter Hastalarında Psikolojik Dayanıklılığı Arttırmaya Yönelik Verilen Psikoeğitimin Etkililiğinin Değerlendirilmesi
Bu çalışma amputasyon planlanan periferik arter hastalığı olan hastalara psikolojik dayanıklılığı arttırmaya yönelik verilen psikoeğitimin etkisinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma nicel yöntemlerle gerçekleştirilmiştir ve ön test-son test girişim- kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel tiptedir. Araştırmanın evrenini 2024 Haziran-Kasım tarihleri arasında İstanbul ilinde bulunan bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde Periferik arter hastalığı nedeniyle tedavi alan hastalar oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın örneklemini ilgili hastanede yatmakta olan ve dahil edilme kriterlerini karşılayan hastalar oluşturmuştur. Çalışmaya 26 girişim ve 26 kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 52 hasta dahil edilmiştir. Araştırma verileri; Hastaları Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu ve Kısa Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde t testi, ki kare testleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, girişim grubu yaş ortalaması (59,92) ile kontrol grubu yaş ortalaması (65,38) arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olduğunu göstermiştir. Yaş dışında girişim ve kontrol grubu arasında cinsiyet, kilo, boy, eğitim, medeni durum, meslek, gelir vb. tanımlayıcı özellikleri açısından ve hastalığın süresi, tedavi türü, cerrahi girişim sayısı, hareket kısıtı, baş etme yolları vb. periferik arter hastalığı ile ilgili özellikler açısından aralarında anlamlı bir farklılığın bulunmadığı saptanmıştır. Psikoeğitim verilmeden önce yapılan ön testte, psikoeğitim programı alan periferik arter hastalarının ve eğitim almayan hastaların psikolojik sağlamlıkları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı ancak son testte girişim grubunun psikolojik sağlamlık düzeyinin kontrol grubundakinden anlamlı bir biçimde daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir (t=2,89 ve p<0,05). Psikoeğitim programı almayan periferik arter hastalarının ön testteki ve son testteki psikolojik sağlamlıkları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmazken psikoeğitim programı alan periferik arter hastalarının psikoeğitim aldıktan sonra ölçülen psikolojik sağlamlık düzeylerinin eğitim öncesine göre anlamlı bir biçimde yükseldiği saptanmıştır (t=-3,95 ve p<0.05). Araştırmanın bu bulgularına dayanılarak periferik arter hastalığı tanısı alıp amputasyon planlanan hastalarda psikolojik dayanıklılığı arttırmaya yönelik uygulanan psikoeğitimin hastaların psikolojik sağlamlığını artırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Periferik Arter Hastalığı, Psikolojik Sağlamlık, PsikoeğitimThis study was conducted to determine the effects of psychoeducation given to patient with peripheral artery disease scheduled for amputation to increase psychological resilience. The research was conducted using quantitative methods and was a quasi- experimental type with pre-test- post- test experimental – control groups. The universe of the study consisted of patients who were treated in a training and research hospital in Istanbul between June and November 2024. The study sample consisted of patients who were hospitalized in the relevant hospital and met the inclusion criteria. A total of 52 patients, 26 in the intervention group and 26 in the control group, participated in the study. The research data were obtained using the Patient Identification Form and the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale. The findings of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the mean age of the intervention group (59.92) and the mean age of the control group (65.38). Apart from age, there were no significant differences between the intervention and control groups in terms of gender, weight, height, education, marital status, occupation, income, etc. It was found that there was no significant difference between in terms of their descriptive characteristics and in terms of characteristics related to peripheral artery disease such as duration of the disease, type of treatment, number of surgical interventions movementrestrictions, coping methods, etc. In the pre-test conducted before psychoeducation, it was found that there was no significant difference between the psychological resilience of peripheral artery patients who received the psychoeducation program and those who did not receive education , but in the post-test, the psychological resilience level of the intervention group was significantly higher than that of the control group.While there was no significant difference between the psychological resilience of peripheral artery patients who did not receive the psychoeducation program in the pre-test and post-test , it was found that the psychological health levels of peripheral artery patients who received the psychoeducation program, measured after receiving psychoeducation, increased significantly compared to before the education. Based on these findings of the study, it was concluded that psyshoeducation given to increase psychological resilience in patients diagnosed with peripheral artery disease and planned for amputation increased the psychological resilience of the patients. A Cooperative Positioning Method of Connected and Automated Vehicles with Fusion of Data Information of Direction-of-Arrival Relative Distance and Vehicles Speed
This study explores the potential of cellular-vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) wireless communications in enhancing AV localization in GNSS-deprived scenarios. Specifically, we propose CV2X- LOCA, a novel unit (RSU)-assisted cooperative localization substructure utilizing only C-V2X channel state information to achieve lane-level precision. CV2X-LOCA comprises four main components: a data processing module, environment parameter correction module, coarse positioning module, and vehicle trajectory filtering module, collectively addressing challenges in dynamic C-V2X networks. Through extensive modelling we demonstrate that CV2X-LOCA attains cutting-edge localization performance even in noisy conditions, with fast-moving vehicles and sparse RSU coverage. The findings offer valuable insights for transportation agencies to make informed decisions regarding cost-effective RSU deployment in the future.Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Scienc
Sınır Eğrisi ve İskelet Özellikleri ile El Yazısı Rakam Tanıma
Bu çalışmada el yazısı rakam tanımaya ilişkin bir uygulama tanıtılmaktadır. El yazısı rakamların tanınması amacıyla kullanılan öznitelik verileri, rakam şeklinin sınır eğrisi ve iskelet yapısından çıkartılmaktadır. Bu iki öznitelik seti, rakamlara ait biçimsel özellikleri tanımada tamamlayıcı özellikler göstermektedir. El yazısı rakam görselleri öncelikle arka zeminde ayrıştırılarak siyah-beyaz ikili görüntüye dönüştürülmüş ve izleyen aşamada normalizasyon işlemi ile 40x40 boyutlarında görüntü matris verileri elde edilmiştir. Bu matris verileri temel alınarak el yazısı karakterin sınır eğrisi ve iskelet formları oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada 300 adet el yazısı rakam örnekleri kullanılmıştır. Sınır eğrisi ve iskelet formlarından çıkartılan farklı öznitelikler kullanılarak bir veri seti üretilmiştir. Elde edilen veri seti ile eğitilen bir Yapay Sinir Ağı (YSA) kullanılarak el yazısı rakamların sınıflandırılması sağlanmıştır. Sınırlı sayıda örnek kullanımı ile birlikte tanıma başarısı %96.7 olarak elde edilmiştir
Impact of Blood Flow Restriction Intensity on Pain Perception and Muscle Recovery Post-Eccentric Exercise
BackgroundDelayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a well-established phenomenon characterized by ultrastructural muscle damage that typically develops following unfamiliar or high-intensity exercise. DOMS manifests with a constellation of symptoms, including muscle tenderness, stiffness, edema, mechanical hyperalgesia, and a reduced range of joint motion. In recent years, the application of blood flow restriction (BFR) has garnered attention for its potential impact on DOMS.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the effects of different BFR intensities on biomechanical alterations induced by DOMS in healthy individuals.Design and MethodsThirty participants were split into two groups receiving either 80% or 20% BFR applied during low-intensity resistance exercise following DOMS induction. Pain perception, pressure pain threshold, muscle biometric characteristics, and strength were assessed before DOMS, after DOMS, and following BFR application at 24, 48, and 72 h.ResultsThe 80% BFR group experienced faster reductions in pain perception compared to the 20% BFR group. Muscle strength recovery was also statistically faster in the 80% BFR group. No significant differences were observed between groups in muscle stiffness, flexibility, or other mechanical properties.ConclusionsThese findings suggest that BFR, particularly at higher intensities, may alleviate DOMS symptoms and accelerate muscle strength recovery. However, the lack of a control group and limitations in muscle property assessment warrant further research to definitively determine BFR's efficacy in managing DOMS.Science Citation Index Expande
