Investigation of the Effect of Doing Sports Frequency on Fear of Covid-19
The aim of our research is to examine the fear levels of female and male athletes about the new type of corona virus (Covid-19). The survey method, one of the quantitative research models, was used in the study. The sample of the research consists of volunteers (n=139) who actively do sports in various sports clubs and in different branches in the districts of Istanbul, on the European side (Küçükçekmece, Bakırköy, Zeytinburnu). The data were collected online by applying the questionnaire technique. The COVID-19 Fear Scale of the athletes was used as a data collection tool. T-test and one-way ANOVA analyzes were used, which were determined to have a normal distribution of the data as a statistical procedure. It is seen that there is no difference between the levels of fear of Covid-19 according to the gender, age, education level, chronic disease level, training status, financial level of their families, sports branch, and years of playing sports. A significant difference was found between the levels of fear of Covid-19 according to the levels of how many days a week the athlete’s train. The change in the frequency of weekly training in covid-19 fear levels, for example, less fear in those who train 5 or more a week may be due to the decrease in their anxiety as they are more exposed to covid-19 as they go out. At the same time, people who keep their routine may be less afraid of the corona than those who are less socialized because they go out 5 days a week or more and maintain their routine and socialize at the same time, which can adversely affect their fear levels and cause them to be less afraid

The Tuned Mass Damper as a Subject in Engineering Mechanics Dynamics

But few universities dare to introduce projects to enhance students' curiosity, interest, and engagement toward engineering by constructing do-it-yourself physical prototypes, making measurements, and calculations to compete for the best performance. The intention of this project is to introduce a complex multiple-degree-of-freedom vibration problem in an easy manner, namely, the topic of a tuned mass damper (TMD) applied to earthquake-like oscillations. This type of projects directly addresses all seven student outcomes recommended by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). The project develops critical thinking and inquiry skills by designing and constructing the prototype of a building-like structure and its corresponding TMD; conducting an experiment under certain constraints to test the attenuation after an initial displacement; applying an open-source freeware to plot and measure underdamped oscillations; calculating main vibration parameters; as well as comparing performance results with another teams. Students approach this complex tunning problem by trial-and-error of key TMD parameters, a strategy that sparks fun and gambling to the process and competition for the best performance in attenuation efficiency. Data from direct observation of students' performance, student surveys, reports, presentation videos, office hours, and interviews showed that students enthusiastically responded at all project stages, understood the TMD functioning, and appreciated the value of dynamics in engineering in a more meaningful way than it would be without this type of projects.IEE
Improved Bounds on the Moments of Guessing Cost
Guessing a random variable with finite or countably infinite support in which each selection leads to a positive cost value has recently been studied within the context of "guessing cost". In those studies, similar to standard guesswork, upper and lower bounds for the rho-th moment of guessing cost are described in terms of the known measure Renyi's entropy. In this study, we non-trivially improve the known bounds using previous techniques along with new notions such as balancing cost. We have demonstrated that the novel lower bound proposed in this work, achieves 5.84%, 18.47% higher values than that of the known lower bound for rho = 1 and rho = 5, respectively. Efficient Strategy for Multi-Uav Path Planning in Target Coverage Problems
In recent years, multi unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are used in the same system to accomplish more complex missions. In many multi-UAV system applications, the main objective is to visit some predetermined checkpoints in operational area. If the number of check points and constraints increases, finding a feasible solution takes up too much time. In this paper, a checkpoint based multi-UAV path planning problem is solved by using improved genetic algorithm. The main contributions of this paper are: (1) the introducing revisit time interval concept, (2) the investigating of the effect of objective function description, and (3) looking into an outcome of using multiple runways on optimal multi-UAV path planning. The proposed strategy-based optimization methodology is performed for checkpoint based multi-UAV path planning problems in two-dimensional (2D) environment. Mimarlık eğitiminde bir araç ve süreç olarak prototipleme
Bir kavram ve uygulama olarak mimarlık için prototipleme, diğer alanlarda olduğu gibi somut bir çalışma modeli oluşturmanın ötesindedir. İnşa ederken tasarımın devam ettiği ve aynı anda deneyimlemenin sağlanabildiği bütünsel, öğretici bir süreci kapsar. Ayrıca prototipleme, teori ve pratik arasında gidip gelen mimarlığın alanını anlamaya yardımcı olan bir eyleme dönüşebilir. Bu tez çalışmasının amacı, prototipleme kavramının mimarlık eğitimi başta olmak üzere mimari çalışmalara dahil edilmesinin faydalarını belirlemektir. Zaman içinde, ustadan çırağa aktarılan mimarlık bilgisi bugün genellikle sanat ve mühendisliğin iç içe olduğu okullarda öğretilen formal bir sisteme dönüşmüştür. Bu duruma karşılık, eğitim sürecinde mimarlık ürünü praksisini, sadece kağıt üzerinde bir tasarım olarak var etmemek, inşa süreçlerini ve sonrasını da tahayyül etmek, tasarımcı ve öğrencisinin farklı alan potansiyelleri ile yüzleşmesini ve çözüm üretebilmesini sağlar. İnşa etmeyi mimarlık eğitim sürecine dahil etmiş programlar bu anlamda kritik örneklerdir. Bu tezde inşa pratiği prototip üretimi üzerinden okunacak ve çeşitli Tasarla-İnşa et Programları hakkında bilgiler kullanılarak değerlendirme yapılacaktır. Ek olarak, 21. yüzyılda değişen mimar ve mimarlık pratiğine bir cevap olarak, tasarım, inşa ve sonrası bir süreç olarak değerlendirilecek, inşa ederek öğrenmeyi önemseyen; AA Hooke Park, ITKE University of Stuttgart, Rural Studio, Ciudad Abierta/Open City, MEF FADA DBS/AAP olmak üzere farklı beş coğrafyadan beş programın prototiplemeye yaklaşımları, öğrenme süreçleri, katılımcıları ve kullandıkları araçlar incelenecektir.Prototyping for architecture, as a concept and practice, exceeds generating a tangible working-model as in other fields. It encompasses a holistic, instructive process in which design continues while building and by which simultaneous experience can be achieved. Also, prototyping can become an action that helps to understand the fluctuating field of architecture between theory and practice. The goal of this thesis work is to identify the benefits of incorporating the concept of prototyping to architectural studies, mainly architectural education. Over time, the architectural knowledge transferred from its master to its apprentice has turned into a formal system given in its schools at the intersection of art and engineering. In contrast to this situation, in the educational process, not only creating the architectural product praxis as a design on paper but also imagining the construction processes and after, enables the designer and the student to face different field potentials and produce solutions. Programs that include building in their education curricula are critical examples in this regard. In this thesis, the construction practice will be read through prototype production and the assessment will be done utilizing information on various Design-Build Programs. In addition, design-construction-post will be evaluated as a process in a response to the changing architect subject and architectural practice in the 21st century. Organizational Humor as Making Our Work More Meaningful: Mediation by Crafting Job Resources
In the present study, we examined the impact of humor’s positive functions on the perception of a job’s meaningfulness. We argued that liberating and stress-relieving humor act as job resources enhancing job crafting to increase social and structural resources to experience meaningfulness. We hypothesized that crafting the job to increase structural and social resources would mediate the link between organizational humor functions (i.e., liberating and stress-relieving) and meaningfulness. We conducted a cross-sectional study among 200 Turkish employees from different occupations. Our results revealed that increasing structural resources mediated the relationship between liberating humor and meaningfulness, while this mediation was partially for stress-relieving humor. The mediating role of increasing social resources was partial and conditional for both types of organizational humor functions. The practical and theoretical implications have been discussed from a positive organizational scholarship perspective
Online Peer Reviews: a Lasting Innovation From the Covid Pandemic?
The COVID pandemic caused a forced transition to online learning as schools were closed to stop thespread of the disease. Schools and teachers coped with this by adapting face-to-face activities to theonline environment in innovative ways. This study investigates the effectiveness of conducting peerreviews online and considers whether this innovation should be retained after the pandemic ends. It wasconducted in a small, private university in a developing country. Out of 130 students, 34 surveys werecollected (26%) that contained useful quantitative and qualitative data. The checklist forms used in thepeer reviews were compared to the subsequent draft to see the uptake of the feedback. The resultsshowed that students incorporated 72% of the peer suggestions in the next versions of their report.Overall, the peer reviews were found to be effective, motivating, and to increase confidence as a writer.Students considered the most effective way to improve writing is with a combination of peer and teachergiven feedback. Interestingly, no clear preference for face-to-face peer reviews was indicated. Therefore,it seems that conducting peer reviews online is a valid option for teachers who want to save valuableclass time. To enhance the effectiveness of online peer reviews it is suggested that teachers givesubstantial learner training prior to the peer review, provide structure such as checklists or guidelines, andincrease accountability by giving students a chance to meaningfully evaluate the comments andparticipation of their peer reviewers
Model for Estimating the Probability of a Customer To Have a Transaction
In this study, it is aimed to estimate the probability of a customer who comes to the institution for the first time to make a transaction in the next 3 months, using data-driven machine learning models, in order to provide financing to the seller company by assigning the receivables arising from the sale of goods and services in a company actively operating in the factoring sector. Accordingly, it was aimed to directly contribute to the transaction volume on a business basis by acting and taking action with more effective, efficient and correct approaches by finding high-potential and low-potential customers. In this context, provided by KKB (Credit Registration Bureau); The data set to he used in machine learning models was created with feature engineering and exploratory data analysis, using the Risk, Mersis, GIB information of the prospective customers and the historical information of the customers, check issuers, customer representatives and branches kept in the database. Since the leads coming to the institution are in two different types of organizations (Individual and Legal), two different forecasting models were applied. Multiple classification models were tried, and the highest F1-Score of 86% for private companies was obtained with the Random Forest model, and the highest F1- Score for commercial companies was obtained with the Random Forest model with 82%. © 2022 IEEE
