Main conclusions and perspectives from the collective scientific assessment of the effects of plant protection products on biodiversity and ecosystem services along the land–sea continuum in France and French overseas territories
Erratum : 10.1007/s11356-025-36011-4International audiencePreservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services is critical for sustainable development and human well-being. However, an unprecedented erosion of biodiversity is observed and the use of plant protection products (PPP) has been identified as one of its main causes. In this context, at the request of the French Ministries responsible for the Environment, for Agriculture and for Research, a panel of 46 scientific experts ran a nearly 2-year-long (2020-2022) collective scientific assessment (CSA) of international scientific knowledge relating to the impacts of PPP on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The scope of this CSA covered the terrestrial, atmospheric, freshwater, and marine environments (with the exception of groundwater) in their continuity from the site of PPP application to the ocean, in France and French overseas territories, based on international knowledge produced on or transposable to this type of context (climate, PPP used, biodiversity present, etc.). Here, we provide a brief summary of the CSA's main conclusions, which were drawn from about 4500 international publications. Our analysis finds that PPP contaminate all environmental matrices, including biota, and cause direct and indirect ecotoxicological effects that unequivocally contribute to the decline of certain biological groups and alter certain ecosystem functions and services. Levers for action to limit PPP-driven pollution and effects on environmental compartments include local measures from plot to landscape scales and regulatory improvements. However, there are still significant gaps in knowledge regarding environmental contamination by PPPs and its effect on biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services. Perspectives and research needs are proposed to address these gaps

Native tropical forest species regeneration in non-native eucalyptus tree plantations along the agricultural landscapes of south-eastern Malagasy highlands
The plantation of fast-growing exotic species is an increasing phenomenon in tropical regions, with eucalyptus being the most prevalent species. Eucalyptus plantations (EP) have the potential to facilitate the regeneration of native species; however, in some cases, they may also hinder this process. The factors influencing the effects of EP on the regeneration of native species remain poorly understood. This study aims to identify the conditions that make these plantations favorable or unfavorable for the regeneration of native species. We investigated EP in agricultural landscapes in the south-eastern Malagasy highlands, located at the edge of dense rainforest. Floristic surveys were conducted in 20 EP situated at varying distances from natural forest fragments (near950?m in savannah). The understory of EP was characterised by a high abundance of native species. However, they were found to be more abundant and diverse in the intermediatestory of EP located near natural forest fragments. These native species are still in the early stages of plant succession, as they have essentially occupied the understory of the EP and contribute minimally to the basal area. The basal areas of native species in EP sites adjacent to natural forests are, in fact, comparable to those found in 0-5-year-old slash-and-burn fallows, which also occur on the periphery of natural forests. EP established in savannahs away from natural forests can act as catalysts for the natural regeneration of native species that would not occur without them. Conversely, EP on the edge of or within natural forests slow down the natural regeneration of native species, which would develop more rapidly in their absence. This study emphasises the significance of landscape spatial context in optimising the role of EP in the conservation and restoration of tropical forest ecosystems
Effects of drying methods and varieties on aflatoxin content of groundnuts in Senegal
This volume follows on from the Rencontres Francophone Légumineuses (RFL) held in March 2024, organized by CIRAD, INRAE, Terres Inovia and Terres Univia, and co-organized by the Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles (ISRA). This unique event brings together all those involved in development, the supply chains and research into grain and forage legumes. It's an opportunity to exchange views, share knowledge and accelerate innovation around legumes. The RFLs focus on seed, forage and woody legumes, and aim to cover the diversity of production systems, as well as the diversity of uses: food, feed and non-food. Pulses are a major lever for meeting the global challenges of climate change and food and nutritional security. All over the world, they play a strategic role, providing nutritional benefits and ensuring protein and food sovereignty. The many species of pulses also represent a formidable breeding ground for food innovation.International audienceGroundnuts are subject to contamination by aflatoxin, a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus. This contamination occurs when sensitive varieties are used or during drying and storage. This study assessed the effect of variety and drying methods on aflatoxin B1 levels in groundnuts. Three varieties and four drying techniques were tested. ANOVA results showed a significant difference only for pod moisture content. However, the table-top air-drying technique gave the lowest aflatoxin B1 content (5.67 ppb), while the farmers' technique gave the highest content (9.13 ppb). Testing these methods on the farm could help to identify the most effective and accessible to farmers
The development of letter representations in preschool children is affected by visuomotor integration skills and visual field asymmetries
International audienceOne essential skill believed to consolidate during the preschool years is children’s ability to recognize the different letters of the alphabet. The aim of the present study was to track how visual representations of letters change and are consolidated with exposure to print and the graphomotor experience a child has. A secondary goal of this study was to investigate the emergence of the right visual field advantage for letter identification, reflecting children’s sensitivity to the directionality of print. Eighty-one preschool children (aged 4 to 5 years) participated in a longitudinal study where they were shown isolated uppercase letters in both normal upright format and rotated 180◦. The letter stimuli were mixed randomly with symbol stimuli in a letter/non-letter lateralized classification task. The results indicated that accuracy in classifying rotated letters as letters—rather than symbols—significantly improved among 4-yearold preschoolers between testing in December (mid-year) and in June (end of the school year). In contrast, little further development was observed in 5-year-old preschoolers, although they still exhibited a slight disadvantage in accuracy when classifying rotated letters. Additionally, behavioral and eye-movement data highlighted a left-to-right deployment of attention by the end of the second year of formal preschool education, evidenced by the emergence of a right visual field advantage. Our results suggest that letter representations undergo significant consolidation during the second year of formal preschool education, which typically corresponds to 4-year-old children in France, with a close relationship between letter identification skills, sensitivity to the directionality of print, and visuo-motor integration skills

International audienceThis presentation is based on an ongoing action research project in partnership with the Festival OFF d'Avignon, focusing on the transformations taking place in the performing arts sector in the digital age. In a context of production saturation, where the challenge is to “produce and distribute better,” we question the value of exploring the platformization dynamics at work within the sector in the sense that they could provide innovative responses to this challenge. Indeed, the platformization dynamic that has been taking shape in recent years embodies new forms of mediation that could facilitate this connection and initiate a transition that is considered salvific. Our aim here is to study how this economy of promise (Bullich, 2021) translates from the perspective of an analysis of promotional discourse on professional platforms, but also from the perspective of a technocultural and socioeconomic analysis, drawing on the theoretical contributions of the Platform Studies approach (Beuscart et al., 2018). . Five platforms offering this type of connection constitute our field of study: Theaomai, Quelspectacle, To See pro, A 2 pas de la scène, and Cooprog.
