An Excellent Conversation
Some months ago, I rode to the airport with Uber, as I have done many times before and since. I noticed before the car arrived that the driver had high ratings for “excellent conversation.” Sure enough, it was not long before he started raising topics for discussion. He was driving for Uber on his day off from his main job to help pay tuition for his information technology degree. He was, in his own estimation, well read, and mentioned video lectures on ethics by a Harvard professor that he had been following. He was smart, articulate, thoughtful, and spoke fast, jabbing ideas and questions into every conversational gap. I suppose by some measures it was excellent conversation

Are you wondering what the implications are of the education policy agenda of the new presidential administration? Since taking office, President Trump has issued several executive orders that influence PK-12 and higher education. These orders, along with other legislative efforts at the state and federal level, have an impact on teaching and learning and how schooling is experienced by students, families, and communities.
This event provides an overview of these actions and their impact on education in American society. Furthermore, we will explore how a democratic conception of education may impact our response to these policies and discuss what it means for Christians to support democracy and education in this current moment
