Young people’s moral decision-making and the Covid-19 pandemic in Hungary

    Get PDF
There is a deficiency of in-depth investigations of young people’s moral decision-making during the coronavirus pandemic. The current article studies such decision-making with respect to socializing with peers, drawing on 44 interviews with Hungarian university students. The interviewed students overwhelmingly changed their socializing behavior because of the pandemic, however their concrete actions showed great differences. For some it was enough if they greeted their friends differently, and did not drink from their glasses, whilst for others greater changes were made in their former socializing habits. Based on their accounts, the following factors influenced their socializing: taking responsibility by not infecting others (concentrating on family members), conformity (alignment with friends’ behavior), closeness of relationships, epidemiological restrictions and rules, and fatigue and growing familiar with the pandemic connected to the passage of time. Whilst research on decision-making during the pandemic has primarily been quantitative, we argue that this study illustrates how qualitative research can provide valuable input

A nagyszombati gyógyszerészek artikulusai magyar nyelvű fordítás és az eredeti latin nyelvű szövege / Articuli pharmacopolarum Tyrnaviensium Hungarian translation and the original Latin text

Perhaps the most important old Hungarian pharmacy-related document of the past decades surfaced in 2022: the “Articuli Pharmacopolarum Tyrnaviensium” (Pharmacist regulations of Trnava /a town, now in West-Slovakia, the former Nagyszombat in the realm of the old Hungarian Kingdom. The regulation was issued in 1748 in Latin by Maria Theresa, Empress of the Habsburg Empire and Queen of Hungary. The seller, who Szabolcs Dobson MD bought the Documentum from, was a private individual and was not aware of its content. In Hungary, it was the first regulation issued for a pharmacists’ local community that provided a minute, real, graphic and lively picture of this town’s pharmaceutical professionals and the contemporary therapeutic practice and guidelines. There was a printed document of these regulations published in 1852 by Ferenc Linzbauer in its original Latin version. Ignác Schwarz published the first Hungarian translation in 1894. However, this translation was incomplete and missed about one-third of the original core text. The present study contains the first entire Hungarian wording of the “Articuli Pharmacopolarum Tyrnaviensium” prepared by Csilla Tuza and Katalin Kincses

Emotion Recognition Based on the Structure of Narratives

One important application of natural language processing (NLP) is the recognition of emotions in text. Most current emotion analyzers use a set of linguistic features such as emotion lexicons, n-grams, word embeddings, and emoticons. This study proposes a new strategy to perform emotion recognition, which is based on the homologous structure of emotions and narratives. It is argued that emotions and narratives share both a goal-based structure and an evaluation structure. The new strategy was tested in an empirical study with 117 participants who recounted two narratives about their past emotional experiences, including one positive and one negative episode. Immediately after narrating each episode, the participants reported their current affective state using the Affect Grid. The goal-based structure and evaluation structure of the narratives were analyzed with a hybrid method. First, a linguistic analysis of the texts was carried out, including tokenization, lemmatization, part-of-speech tagging, and morphological analysis. Second, an extensive set of rule-based algorithms was used to analyze the goal-based structure of, and evaluations in, the narratives. Third, the output was fed into machine learning classifiers of narrative structural features that previously proved to be effective predictors of the narrator’s current affective state. This hybrid procedure yielded a high average F1 score (0.72). The results are discussed in terms of the benefits of employing narrative structure analysis in NLP-based emotion recognition

    Atipikus munkajogviszonyok

Így eltérésnek minősül minden olyan eset, amelyben a munkaidő a hagyományos munkajogviszonytól eltérően alakul, illetve amikor a napi munkaidőnek nincsen jelentősége.
