Bible translation – A target of linguistic ideologies
Get PDFThe study introduces some basic linguistic ideologies having affect on translation of sacred text, especially on the Bible translation. While presenting the most important notions of Bible translation, the study enumerates several ideologies of the translator and the reader presenting the complexity of the translation process. The translation of the culturally bound texts is not a straightforward activity – the creation of equivalents (to be found on several layers of the text) requires effort not only from the translator but from the reader too
Entry into the Intermediate Space of Religion
Get PDFThere is an intermediate area of experiencing, to which inner reality and external life both contribute. Space in-between is a peculiar phenomenon, because we live in it without noticing it. It cannot be described, because the world present in it is in a blurred, half-formed stage, where inside and outside, the personal and collective, cannot be distinguished from each other. Religion (like art and culture in general) belongs to this intermediate space.
In this study we investigate from anthropological and psychological point of view how rites help the believer to enter the intermediate space of religion.
Van egy olyan átmeneti tere a tapasztalásnak, amelyben a belső realitás és a külső élet egyaránt formáló erő. A köztes tér sajátos jelenség, hiszen mindig benne élünk, mégsem „tudunk róla.” Megfoghatatlan, hiszen benne a valóság elmosódik, kiformálatlan valamiként létezik, melyben nem lehet szétválasztani a külsőt a belsőtől, a sajátot a közösségitől. A vallás (csakúgy, mint a művészet és a kultúra általában) ehhez az átmeneti térhez tartozik.

No full textTényként állapítható meg, hogy a koronavírus, a COVID-19 mint tényleges pandémia, azaz az epidémiából kifejlődő világjárvány az emberiség számára egy újszerű, eddig ebben a formájában lényegében ismeretlen veszélyhelyzetet teremtett meg, amellyel szemben sem orvosi, sem egyéb értelemben ellenszer a jelen tanulmány készítésekor még nem ismert. 2020. 03. 11. napján jelentette be Tedrosz Adamon Gebrejeszusz, az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) főigazgatója Genfben, hogy világjárvány szintjére lépett a COVID-19 vírusfertőzés.1
Tagadhatatlan továbbá, hogy a koronavírusnak egyéb komoly egészségügyi, gazdasági hatásai mellett értelemszerűen a polgári jogra, a polgári jogi szerződéses jogviszonyokra nézve is nagyon komoly következményei vannak. Jelen írásban azt kíséreljük meg bemutatni, hogy a COVID-19 jelenleg ismert megjelenési formája a magyar polgári jogban a szerződéses jogviszonyokat milyen formában, milyen módon befolyásolhatja, különös figyelemmel a vis maior fogalmára.
A jelen tanulmány írásakor rendelkezésre álló információk kapcsán az minden bizonnyal kijelenthetőnek és rögzíthetőnek tűnik, hogy a koronavírus megjelenése és következménye polgári jogi értelemben elméletileg vis maior helyzetet generál, annak azonban tényleges megítélése, vis maiorként való minősítése az egyes konkrét esetkörökben változhat
Shakespeare's Art of Poesy in King Lear: an emblematic mirror of governance on the Jacobean stage
No full text126 p.William Shakespeare’s King Lear has long received considerable attention for textual, philological and theatrical reasons. This monograph combines the most recent academic research and the close reading of the 1608 Quarto text to find answers to the question what makes this play an outstanding and exceptional work of art. Written to be performed to a courtly audience, the text bears traces of the dramaturgical heritage of Tudor interludes as well as the tropes of early Jacobean public discourses on royal power. Relying on The Arte of English Poesie, George Puttenham’s Early Modern handbook of rhetorical and poetic conventions, the monograph offers a historically plausible understanding of the play and argues that the corporeal image cluster of the text corresponds to the rhetoric of the royal discourse based on the tropes of the body politic. The research findings eventually lead to the conclusion that the 1608 King Lear Quarto stands as a dramatic response to royal propaganda and it is meant to hold a mirror of governance to the royal court and to King James in particular, who supposedly was present at the first performance of the play in Whitehall

Neologisms in Hungarian terms of quality assurance
Get PDFBy employing a functional-cognitive frame, this paper, in which neologisms derived from English are analysed, focuses on the semantics of new Hungarian terms of quality assurance (quality management in general). Although the importance of unambiguous terms in scientific communication is often emphasised (Temmerman 2002: 211), it has been observed that the presence of conceptual metonymies and metaphors (Lakoff and Johnson 1980, Panther and Thornburg 2003, Kövecses 2015) also fosters understanding of technical languages. The author’s previous research in the field of the semantics of Hungarian neologisms (e.g. Sólyom 2014a, b, 2016) has also revealed that the presence of metonymies and metaphors has a significant impact upon the process of meaning construal. The present research assumes that various metonymic and metaphorical meanings occur in the semantics of novel Hungarian terms of quality assurance. To attest this, examples from a questionnaire filled by Hungarian quality engineers in 2018 will be analysed. Another question addressed in this paper is whether there is a mental reason for the fact that although there are colloquial Hungarian words and expressions for describing the processes of manufacturing, experts in the field do not use them, but rather employ neologisms with English roots.
