    Cinema entre mulheres:: um projeto inacabado de Norma Bengell

The article highlights Bengell\u27s contribution to Brazilian documentary cinema and the feminist debate, particularly her involvement with international feminist movements. In this journey, we focus on the analysis of her first documentary, Maria Gladys: A Brazilian Actress, reflecting on the relationship between Norma and Gladys and the realization of a cinema made by women.El artículo examina la transición de la actriz Norma Bengell a directora y su proyecto de filmar las vidas de mujeres revolucionarias y actrices brasileñas. La investigación se adentra en el archivo privado de Bengell, revelando películas no terminadas y explorando las motivaciones, el contexto político e histórico de su cambio de carrera. El artículo destaca la contribución de Bengell al cine documental brasileño y al debate feminista, en particular, su involucramiento con movimientos feministas internacionales.     In The end and the beginning (2005), Eduardo Coutinho visits residents of Araçás, a rural community in the Brazilian backlands. In this article we highlight the relationships between some of the female characters who, at an advanced age, no longer leave the house and have not seen each other for a long time. Thus, the interest of this text is to comment on how the film brings these women and their life stories closer together, in a certain way, with each other and with themselves.En El fin y el principio (2005), Eduardo Coutinho visita a los residentes de Araçás, una comunidad rural en el interior de Brasil. En este artículo destacamos las relaciones entre algunos de los personajes femeninos que, a una edad avanzada, ya no salen de casa y hace tiempo que no se ven. Así, el interés de este texto es comentar cómo la película acerca, en cierto modo, a estas mujeres y sus historias de vida, entre sí y consigo mismas.Dans La fin et le début (2005), Eduardo Coutinho rend visite aux habitants d\u27Araçás, une communauté rurale de l\u27arrière-pays brésilien.     Anatomia de uma Catástrofe Mediática: Pedrogão Grande e a política da invisibilidade

    This research aims to study the role of the media in the news coverage of the Pedrogão Grande forest fire, contributing to the vast field of study on crisis communication. The aim of this reflection is to understand whether the various media agents carried out journalistic coverage that covered the structural causes of the fire. The analysis will focus on the chronological line of the coverage carried out by the Portuguese media over the two weeks following the start of the fire. To operationalize this objective, content analysis was carried out on a sample of 427 news items. The results show that, despite the intense interest of the media, the coverage was characterized by an omission of the causes behind the Pedrogão Grande events, namely climate change and the desertification of the Portuguese countryside. The main conclusion is that the Portuguese media, although intensely interested over the course of two weeks, did not cover the causes of the phenomenon in general terms.A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo o estudo do papel dos media na cobertura jornalística do incêndio florestal de Pedrogão Grande, contribuindo para o vasto campo de estudo sobre comunicação de crise. A finalidade da reflexão passa por perceber se os diversos agentes mediáticos levaram a cabo uma cobertura jornalística que enquadrou as causas estruturais do incêndio. A análise terá como eixo a linha cronológica da cobertura realizada pelos media portugueses ao longo das duas semanas subsequentes ao início do incêndio. Para operacionalizar este objetivo, realizou-se a análise de conteúdo, com uma amostra de 427 notícias. Os resultados demonstram, que não obstante um intenso interesse dos agentes mediáticos, a cobertura se pautou pela omissão das causas que estão a montante dos acontecimentos de Pedrogão Grande, nomeadamente as Alterações climáticas e a desertificação do interior rural português. A principal conclusão postula que os media portugueses, embora intensamente interessados ao longo de duas semanas, esse trabalho não cobre em termos genéricos as causas do fenómen

    Citizens are ever more demanding companies to take a stand on controversial socio-political issues. But CEOs face a great dilemma, as their opinions are simultaneously from a citizen and from a leader, with no clear frontiers. After posted a personal opinion welcoming the revoke law that protected the right to abortion, Prozis’ CEO created a case that dominated the trends in social media in Portugal for weeks. As a result, Prozis has suffered numerous censorships, cancellations of contracts with influencers who didn’t want to be associated to these statements, as well as thousands of ordinary people who publicly assumed that would stop consuming Prozis’ products and unfollowed the brand on social networks. Based on a quantitative approach (n=550), through an online questionnaire, this study concluded that although 69.1% of the participants disagree or strongly disagree with Prozis’ CEO statements, 73.5% think that any CEO has the right to publicly express his opinions. Also, more than ¾ consider that Prozis’ reputation has been affected by those statements, but more than half (51.6%) stated that they did not stop (or would stop) buying Prozis’ products. A significative difference was found as only 34.7% of Baby Boomers assumed stopped buying Prozis’ products, while 58.5% of Gen Z did it.Citizens are increasingly demanding that companies take a stand on controversial socio-political issues. After posting an opinion welcoming the repeal of the law protecting the right to abortion, the CEO of Prozis created a case that dominated social media trends in Portugal for weeks. As a result, Prozis suffered numerous censorships, cancellations of contracts with influencers who didn’t want to be associated with these statements, and thousands of ordinary people who publicly declared that they would stop consuming Prozis products and unfollowed the brand on social networks. This study aims to understand Portuguese society’s perception, understanding and level of agreement with this phenomenon. Based on a quantitative approach (n=550), through an online questionnaire, this study concludes that although 69.1% of the participants disagree or strongly disagree with the statements made by the CEO of Prozis, 73.5% believe that any CEO has the right to publicly express his or her opinion. Also, more than ¾ believe that Prozis’ reputation has been affected by these statements, but more than half (51.6%) said that they have not (or would not) stop buying Prozis’ products. A significant difference was found in that only 34.7% of Baby Boomers felt they had stopped buying Prozis products, compared to 58.5% of Gen Z

    This article discusses the phenomenon of post-truth in contemporary political discourse and examines its impact on how individuals engage with information. The study outlines transformations affecting technical, temporal, cognitive, and discursive structures of society as significant aspects in the spread of disinformation and the rise of post-truth in recent decades. It distinguishes post-truth as a strategic choice employed to manipulate public debate, characterized by factors such as emotional appeal, deception, data distortion, delegitimization of institutions, and widespread dissemination. Additionally, the article situates this discussion within Jürgen Habermas\u27s theory of communicative action, highlighting the importance of a strong public sphere, critical thinking, and democratic deliberation to address challenges posed by post-truth. However, while Habermas\u27s framework provides a valuable explanatory model for understanding the interaction between language and truth, the article acknowledges the complexities of this endeavor in the face of digital media, social acceleration, and political authoritarianism. In conclusion, this research emphasizes the significance of communicative rationality and democratic deliberation as foundational principles to promote understanding in an era dominated by post-truth discourse.Este artigo discute o fenômeno da pós-verdade no discurso político contemporâneo e examina seu impacto na forma como as pessoas lidam com a informação. O estudo delineia transformações que incidem sobre estruturas técnicas, temporais, cognitivas e discursivas da sociedade como aspectos significativos na disseminação da desinformação e na ascensão da pós-verdade nas últimas décadas. A partir de tais transformações estruturais, distingue-se a pós-verdade como uma escolha estratégica empregada para manipular o debate público, caracterizada por fatores como apelo emocional, dissimulação, distorção de dados, deslegitimação das instituições e disseminação em larga escala. Além disso, o artigo situa essa discussão no contexto da teoria da ação comunicativa de Jürgen Habermas, destacando a importância de uma esfera pública forte, pensamento crítico e deliberação democrática para enfrentar os desafios impostos pela pós-verdade. Contudo, embora a estrutura de Habermas forneça um importante modelo explicativo para compreender a interação entre linguagem e verdade, o artigo reconhece as complexidades desse empreendimento diante das mídias digitais, da aceleração social do tempo e do autoritarismo político. Em conclusão, esta pesquisa enfatiza a importância da racionalidade comunicativa e da deliberação democrática como ponto de partida a oferecer princípios fundamentais para promover o entendimento em uma era dominada pelo discurso da pós-verdade

    This research addresses a crucial problem in the contemporary public sphere: how political disaffection manifests itself, among other issues, in the lack of interest in political issues and the tendency not to discuss them with the groups of belonging. This disaffection is framed in the loss of credibility of institutions, parties, politicians and the media, thus promoting a crisis in political representation and journalistic mediation. The main objective of this study is to understand the crisis of representation and mediation in the context prior to the general elections July 23, 2023 in Spain. A survey is carried out to delve into aspects related to citizens\u27 interest in political affairs and their consumption of information. The results reveal that there is a tendency not to discuss information, except in a group that perceives political information as necessary in electoral periods. The high percentage of citizens who show disinterest in political issues, news and debate during electoral periods represents a challenge for democracy that requires a critical and multifaceted discussion.La presente investigación aborda una problemática crucial en la esfera pública contemporánea: cómo la desafección política se manifiesta, entre otras cuestiones, en el desinterés por los asuntos políticos y la tendencia a no comentarlos con los grupos de pertenencia. Esta desafección se enmarca en la pérdida de credibilidad de las instituciones, los partidos, los políticos y los medios de comunicación, impulsando así una crisis en la representación política y la mediación periodística. El principal objetivo de este estudio es entender la crisis de representación y mediación en el contexto previo a las elecciones generales del 23 de julio de 2023 en España. Para ello se realiza una encuesta con la que se profundiza en aspectos relacionados con el interés de la ciudadanía por los asuntos políticos y su consumo de información. Los resultados revelan que hay una tendencia a no discutir la información, excepto en un grupo que percibe la información política como necesaria en periodos electorales. El alto porcentaje de la ciudadanía que muestra desinterés por los asuntos políticos, las noticias y el debate en períodos electorales supone un desafío para la democracia que exige una discusión crítica y multifacética.A presente investigação aborda um problema crucial na esfera pública contemporânea: como o descontentamento político se manifesta, entre outras questões, na falta de interesse pelas questões políticas e na tendência de não discuti-las com os grupos a que pertencem. Este descontentamento enquadra-se na perda de credibilidade das instituições, dos partidos, dos políticos e dos meios de comunicação social, promovendo assim uma crise na representação política e na mediação jornalística. O principal objetivo deste estudo é compreender a crise de representação e mediação no contexto anterior às eleições gerais de 23 de julho de 2023 em Espanha. Para tal, é realizada uma pesquisa para aprofundar aspectos relacionados com o interesse dos cidadãos pelos assuntos políticos e o seu consumo de informação. Os resultados revelam que há uma tendência a não discutir informação, exceto num grupo que percebe a informação política como necessária em períodos eleitorais. A elevada percentagem de cidadãos que demonstram desinteresse pelas questões políticas, notícias e debate durante os períodos eleitorais representa um desafio para a democracia que requer uma discussão crítica e multifacetada. &nbsp

    La violencia sexual como espectáculo: Encuadre, revictimización, ira y empatía

    Based on the thematic analysis of the framing on the fanpages of the Ecuadorian newspapers El Comercio, El Universo (with a generalist or reference approach) and Extra (sensationalist) about a gang rape that occurred in January 2019, the emotional involvement of critical participants —who commented and debated on Facebook— about the so-called “Martha case” is investigated. Through sentiment analysis, we seek to understand how followers positioned themselves emotionally in the face of sexual violence. To this end, 6,801 comments registered in the first six news items published by the three newspapers were analyzed. The findings show that the differences between the reference press and the sensationalist press are blurred by spectacularizing the information (superficial and morbid treatment). With the use of human-interest framing, the dramatization triggered negative emotions, such as sadness and fear in men, anger and aggressiveness in women, which, given the context, are subverted into positive ones, because they show empathy towards the victim and rejection of the rape culture. Furthermore, desperation, fatalism, helplessness and resignation are perceived.  This calls for reflection, because the informative treatment can be a predictor of the emotional reactions that the media want to provoke in their readers.  A partir del análisis temático del framing en las fanpages de los diarios ecuatorianos El Comercio, El Universo (con enfoque generalista o de referencia) y Extra (de corte sensacionalista) sobre una violación grupal que ocurrió en enero de 2019, se indaga la implicación emocional de los participantes críticos —que comentaron y debatieron en Facebook— sobre el conocido como “caso Martha”. Mediante el análisis de sentimiento, se busca comprender cómo los seguidores se posicionaron emocionalmente ante la violencia sexual. Para ello, se analizaron 6.801 comentarios registrados en las seis primeras noticias que publicaron los tres diarios. Los hallazgos evidencian que las diferencias entre la prensa de referencia y la sensacionalista se difuminan al espectacularizar la información (tratamiento superficial y morboso). Con el uso del encuadre de interés humano, al dramatizar desencadenaron emociones negativas, como tristeza y temor en los hombres, ira y agresividad en las mujeres que, dado el contexto, se subvierten en positivas, porque muestran empatía hacia la víctima y rechazo a la cultura de la violación. Además, se percibe desesperación, fatalismo, impotencia y resignación.     Bridging the gap: Understanding Spanish society’s perception of purpose-driven companies and their role in sustainable development

    This study explores Spanish society’s perspective on purpose-driven businesses as a sustainable model. Also, it assesses Spain’s commitment to sustainability and aligns corporate expectations with citizen responsibilities for societal and environmental betterment. A survey spanning 2021-2022 gauges citizen knowledge and attitude evolution towards these companies. Results reveal 63% of the population is unaware of such businesses, but 74% deem them necessary upon understanding. About 64.5% undertake small daily actions for planetary care, but only 12.8% cease purchasing from environmentally harmful companies. This paper provides empirical evidence of the link between corporate purpose and business sustainability in Spain, and citizen perception of this business model’s impact and significance. It lays a theoretical and practical groundwork for future in-depth studies on purpose-driven companies.     Prostitutas, feministas e as alianças insólitas no cinema de mulheres (1977-1994)

    This article aims to investigate how the so-called Brazilian “women’s cinema” approached sex work, considering its emergence in the 1970s and 1980s, together with feminisms themselves and the prostitute’s movement in Brazil. Based on a mapping effort, we will discuss historical and representational strategies that allowed the existence of possible alliances between filmmakers and whores.El artículo pretende investigar como el trabajo sexual atravesó el llamado “cine de mujeres” brasileño, surgido, junto con los propios feminismos y el movimiento organizado de prostitutas, en las décadas de 1970 y 1980. A partir de un esfuerzo de mapeo, discutiremos aspectos históricos y estrategias representacionales que, aunque sea provisoriamente, permitieron que existirán posibles alianzas entre putas y cineastas.  : L’article ented étudier comment le theme du travail sexuel a traverse ce que l’on appellee le “cinema des femmes” brésilien, qui a émergé, avec les féminismes et le mouvemet organisé de la prostituée, dans les années 1970 et 1980.
