    Gender and productive specialisation. A spatio-temporal analysis for the Italian provinces.

    The work aims to study the relationship between the rate of growth of employment and the productive specialisation of Italian provinces by including the gender dimension in the analysis. Men and women work in different sectors and, consequently, when faced with an increase in employment, women are more likely to fall into some sectors than others. Using a spatio-temporal Spatial Durbin Model (SDM), our analysis shows that the provinces\u27 productive specialisation is not gender-neutral and the impacts on the labour growth rate are different. This result has important policy implications since, in order to maintain gender equity, policies must not only have the objective of favouring female employment but must also take into account the sector in which women will be employed. Only in this way it will be possible to simultaneously achieve a gender balance and high economic growth

    Temporal changes in skin cancer epidemiology in Hungary (2001-2015)

    Skin cancer, including the potentially fatal melanoma and the less harmful non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), traditionally affected Northern populations in Europe. Less attention was paid to the incidence in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including Hungary. Firstly, this paper aims to interpret the incidence and death rate of skin cancer in Hungary in the CEE region and neighbouring countries from available databases. Next, this paper also looks at the tendencies of skin cancer incidence between 2001 and 2015 by using age-standardised incidence rates, utilizing data from the National Cancer Registry. The third aim of the study is to depict the distribution of skin cancer using Bayesian smoothed indirectly standardised relative risks using data provided by the Rapid Inquiry Facility (RIF). The CEE region is characterised by a relatively high death rate of melanoma meanwhile the incidence rate is the lowest in Europe. It was found that both melanoma and NMSC increased between 2001 and 2015, especially in the population aged 65 years and above. The distribution of melanoma and NMSC incidence somewhat follows the pattern of UV radiation in Hungary. However, there are areas where the incoming UV radiation is not particularly high and still belong to the highest quantile of skin cancer incidence. These areas require further analysis to study the underlying risk factors of the observed high incidences

    Molti avvenimenti successivi alla proclamazione dell’armistizio italiano dell’8 settembre 1943, possono essere ricostruiti e analizzati solo attraverso lo studio della memorialistica, per la mancanza di documentazione amministrativa ufficiale. È questo il caso del disarmo dei militari italiani ad opera dell’ex alleato tedesco. Proprio dalla lettura degli scritti personali dei militari appartenenti alla Regia Aeronautica, appare evidente come gli uomini della Wehrmacht ottennero la cessione delle armi perseguendo due diverse strategie: per i reparti italiani dislocati nel Nord Italia, avendo contezza della superiorità qualitativa e quantitativa determinata da una preventiva azione di rafforzamento dell’area, procedettero al disarmo con sorpresa, rapidità e l’uso della forza, senza alcuna contrattazione; differentemente, nei fronti esteri quali Albania, Grecia e Isole dell’Egeo, dove i comandi tedeschi non avevano una scontata superiorità, le memorie ci rendono conto di come la cessione delle armi da parte degli italiani avvenne con l’ingannevole accordo di un loro sicuro rientro a casa. Al disarmo seguì la deportazione e l’assegnazione del non status di Internati Militari Italiani

    Application of electrical resistivity and electromagnetic methods to explore mineralized veins (copper and barite) in Tinejdad area (south-eastern Morocco)

    The electromagnetic method by the measure of the angle of inclination of wide axis and the ellipticity of the ellipse of polarization can be used to prospect the maximum field and to validate the electric data. this technique is known for its speed and ease of implementation. The VLF electromagnetic results show two types of Karous-Hjelt anomalies: i) positive anomalies with an apparent current density ranging between 30 and 40%, indicating that the explored areas are affected by a network of faults. In the Paleozoic sandstone formations, the faults are generally oriented in NE- SW direction, while in the Neoproterozoic pyroclastic formations, are oriented in NW-SE direction. ii) negative anomalies with an apparent current density varying between -30 and -40% corresponding to resistant zones probably associated with mineralized veins oriented in the same direction of the fractured zones. The VLF measurements confirm the anomalies obtained by the electrical resistivity. Thus, the resistant zones correspond to the passage of mineralized veins and the conductive zones are correlated with the fractured areas. The coupling of electromagnetic and electrical resistivity methods suggest that the mineralization is controlled by three parameters (i) Structural: the mineralization is examined by two fault systems, the NW-SE family in the Precambrian basement (Banigounssa site) and the NE -SW family in the Paleozoic blanket (Gardmıyt area), (ii) Lithological: the mineralization is hosted by the Paleozoic detrital and the Neoproterozoic pyroclastic formations and (iii) Hydrothermal: the explored mineralization is related to two major hydrothermal events; a Pan-African event linked to the late Neoproterozoic extensive phase responsible for the establishment of mineralization within the Precambrian basement, and then a Hercynian event manifested by the remobilization of metals in the structures oriented in NE-SW direction

    Deep-Seated Gravitational Slope Deformations (DSGSDs) are complex, slope-scale, gravity-driven phenomena, which are placed between landslide movements s.s. and gravitational tectonics. These processes, which develop over very long time periods, are considerably relevant both for the remarkable influence on the evolution of hillslope morphology and for risk associated with the induced deformations and the possible evolution into catastrophic landslides. A large number of studies on DSGSDs was produced in the scientific literature; the lack of a widely recognized classification, together with the great variability of shapes and characteristics, have led to the development of numerous terminologies and definitions, which make the approach to these phenomena particularly complex. Despite this, it is possible to identify some fundamental characteristics, both in terms of kinematic mechanisms and induced morphological elements and of controlling factors and possible evolution. In more recent years, some studies highlighted the relevance of the elevated spatial and temporal scales that feature DSGSDs, with specific reference to the time-dependent rheology regulating the deformation of rock masses as a prominent distinctive feature of such processes. This study describes the current state of the art, starting from both the numerous works present in the literature and specialized review articles aimed at individual aspects of these phenomena. The work is developed in order to describe both the history of scientific progress in this field and all the main aspects that characterize the phenomena in question, both in terms of intrinsic characteristics and in relation to the control factors and possible evolution. Through the analyzes of literature data, indications are given on the space-time scale and on the characteristics that allow to distinguish DSGSDs from other gravitational phenomena

    Capable faults and seismogenic sources: assessing activity and seismogenic behavior for engineering practices. Cases from Central Italy

    An active fault is defined capable (FAC) when, in fact, it is capable of offsetting the ground surface; while a seismogenic source (SS) is a tectonic structure that generates earthquakes and, under certain conditions, displaces the ground when the deep coseismic rupture propagates up to the surface. Therefore, the FACs may be considered as the surficial expression of SSs. The seismic sequences of central Italy in 2009 and 2016-2017 showed the importance to define and locate “in advance” FACs and SSs in any given area. However, the analysis of the scientific literature shows that the conceptual difference between the FAC and the SS is still marked in Italy. This is demonstrated by the availability of two distinct national databases, that deal separately with the FACs (ITHACA) and the SSs (DISS). This article analyses ITHACA and DISS in the 2009 and 2016-2017 seismic sequences epicentral areas and identifies possible conceptual differences and similarities between FAC and SS. It highlights the need of a well-defined methodological approach that can define and map a FAC as a surficial expression of a SS, to which a certain seismogenic and surface faulting potential can be associated

    Description of a new species of Anoplocheilus MacLeay, 1838 from South Africa, with review of the genus (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Cetoniinae)

    A new species of Anoplocheilus (Anoplocheilus) MacLeay, 1838 closely related to A. (A.) rusticus (Gory & Percheron, 1833) is hereby described from freshly collected and revisited old material. Unlike its sister species, which is restricted to the west and south coastal regions of South Africa, the new species occurs inland, above the Great Escarpment and in adjacent mountain ranges of the Cape Fold Belt. The recently erected subgenus Nselenius Holm & Perissinotto, 2004, is here elevated to full genus, given the rather unique features of the only species currently known, N. silvicola stat. nov., and its closest proximity to Lamellothyrea Krikken, 1980, rather than Anoplocheilus s. str. Furthermore, another species also allocated originally to Anoplocheilus with great reservation by the original authors themselves, is now transferred to the genus Diphrontis, as D. matilei (Antoine & Lequeux, 2001) comb. nov., since it shares most external and aedeagal key characters with species belonging to that genus

    A new hypothesis on the evolution of the hybosorid beetle capacity to conglobate their bodies into a tight ball (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea)

    Although best known for the capacity to fully conglobate their bodies into a "perfect" spheroid, a few Ceratocanthinae (=pill scarabs; Coleoptera: Hybosoridae) have drastically different body architecture. Six South American species, or 1.5% of species diversity, have straight bodies incapable of any conglobation, while some 20% of species can achieve only incomplete body conglobation with legs and abdomen partly exposed. Historically, both latter character states were considered as ancestral and transitional, respectively, in the irreversible evolutionary "progression" towards full-body conglobation. Here we use molecular sequence data to hypothesize a new clade uniting all bodily straight and incompletely conglobate pill scarabs. Significantly, this clade is nested within a clade otherwise consisting of species capable of full-body conglobation. This topology implies that the most recent common ancestor of all pill scarabs had a capacity of full-body conglobation. Consequently, we re-interpret the pill scarab straight and partly conglobate body architectures as secondary reversals to the ancestral condition from the fully conglobate state. If so, the tribe Ceratocanthini uniting 98% of pill scarab species is rendered paraphyletic by two remaining and much smaller South American tribes, Ivieolini and Scarabatermitini. The latter contains three and five rare species, respectively, all of them supposedly termitophilous and all herein illustrated
