Apocalitticismo filosofico. Un itinerario tra ebraismo e Islam

This paper explores the philosophical dimension of apocalypticism in Judaism and Islam, analyzing how eschatological narratives shape contemporary ideological conflicts. By examining key theological and philosophical interpretations, the study highlights the dynamic interplay between religious texts and historical events, emphasizing the malleability of apocalyptic thought. Through a comparative approach, the research deconstructs the notion of a “war of religions” and instead frames the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a “war of ideas,” where religious concepts are weaponized for political and social ends. The final section proposes a “philosophical de-escalation” as a strategy for fostering dialogue and mitigating extremist interpretations

Rappresentazioni della violenza incestuosa nella storia della figlia di Micerino in Erodoto, Storie II, 129-132 e possibili paralleli folklorici: proposte per una lettura comparativa

This article explores the implications of Lloyd and Luraghi’s hypothesis that the story of the daughter of Mycerinus, who committed suicide after being raped by her father, was conceived to explain the origin of a monument. Following Lloyd’s suggestion to cross-reference the story with incest in folklore, I provide an illustration of how this Herodotean passage anticipates recurrent narrative patterns in modern folktales, proposing an alternative reading in relation to the macro-theme of foundation sacrifice

Le cerveau noir de la littérature et la mémoire du futur

In this article I propose a comparative analysis of different types of prisons represented in engravings and literature, starting with Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who as of 1745 created the collection entitled Carceri d’invenzione. I analyze how Piranesi’s “black brain” (M. Yourcenar) projected, at the age of twenty-five, through his sixteen monumental engravings, a broad anticipatory vision of the violent prisons of the last century, from political jails to extermination gulags. Based on an analysis of the prison literature of the last century (e.g. Solzhenitsyn, Shalamov, Steinhardt etc.), I propose a generic typology of the violent universes described. Last but not least, I explain the anticipatory role of these art forms

Decolonizing Democracy in Mexico? Questions of Gender, Violence and Representation in Elena Poniatowska’s Early Testimonio

    No full text
Elena Poniatowska has long been celebrated for her testimonial narratives that construct alternatives to the authoritarian discourses of the Mexican post-Revolutionary state. This article takes as its focus her testimonio that has proven most controversial in critical scholarship – Hasta no verte, Jesús mío (1967) [Here’s to You, Jesusa! 2002] –, celebrated by some for its progressive feminism, dismissed by others as a failure both as a literary narrative and as a political act. My argument is that the narrative weaknesses and ideological contradictions of this testimonio, in fact, reveal deeper faultlines that provide answers to eminently contemporary questions about representation, violence and subjectivity that have been asked by postcolonial scholars since the 1980s; questions about what democracy might mean in a country like Mexico, still marked by the wounds of racism, classism and sexism

Starting from Forgiveness – a Prospect of Archiving the Troubled Past

Taking a controversial documentary film as a case study, the article considers forgiveness as a social practice, proposing an alternative to social antagonism between victims and perpetrators. The following chain of reflections is a direct consequence of the violent reactions to a documentary that was intended to give the public access to what had been on the minds of Secret Service officers during an extremely repressive political regime in Communist Romania. The press interpreted the documentary as an attempt to “whiten” the Communist secret service police, which was detrimental to the victims. In line with new theoretical directions that raise the possibility of a peaceful configuration that serves both parties, our approach examines the wider social shifts necessary to provide trans-generational amity through reconciliation and cultural repair

The Genealogical Aura of the Davila Family

One of the long-lasting narratives developed around a family involved in the establishment of Romanian modernity in the 19th and 20th centuries is that of the illustrious physician Carol Davila. Of uncertain descent, most likely abandoned at birth and adopted by an Italian family from which he takes his name with heraldic-ornithological resonance (d’Avila), the founder of the Romanian school of medicine invents a fantasy family genealogy, combining famous European biographies, memory lapses, and Romantic melodrama. This illegitimate legacy will leave its mark on the activities of the next generation, on the one hand, enabling a calling to implement Western ideas in Romanian institutions and, on the other, stimulating a quasi-patriarchal cult for memory constructs, equivalent to the fabrication of what Paul Ricoeur called “a prior real”. This paper aims to look at the ways in which an identity complex remains engraved in public and private acts of memory

Lettere, documenti, volumi: cartografando la genesi di Eminescu o dell’Assoluto

Starting from the bibliography of the volume Eminescu o dell’Assoluto and using Rosa Del Conte’s papers conserved in her Archive (Milano), I will reconstruct the main lines of study followed by the philologist, evoking the main features that link the study published by Rosa Del Conte to the Eminescology school of Cluj, determining the genesis of her research and the methodology adopted by the scholar in recovering an originality that is first and foremost a legacy
