Estimation of hydraulic conductivity fields through generative adversarial networks and bayesian inference
Exploring the impact of online anticipatory reflection intervention on pre-service math teachers’ professional teacher identity development
This study investigates the affordances of an online anticipatory reflective writing intervention on pre-service teachers’ professional teacher identity development (PTID). A concurrent mixed-methods design was employed, integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Participants were 31 pre-service elementary Mathematics teachers. A 10-week intervention was carried out for them to write and share weekly reflections. Within a single group pre- and post-test design, participants’ PTID was measured through Early Teacher Identity Measurement (ETIM). Interviews were also conducted to explore participants’ perceived experiences with the intervention. The results of ETIM showed that online anticipatory reflective writing had a significant impact on participants’ PTID. Additionally, qualitative results revealed that the intervention facilitated pre-service teachers’ thinking skills, awareness, and internalization of the profession, and provided them with new perspectives on teaching practice
Long-term monitoring and bioaccumulation of heavy metals in European anchovy (<i>Engraulis encrasicolus</i>, Linnaeus, 1758) from the Romanian Black Sea area: A risk assessment perspective
This study examines the ecological and consumer safety implications of heavy contamination in anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus, Linnaeus 1758), one of the most widely consumed small pelagic fish in the Romanian Black Sea. Long-term data (1994-2019) were analyzed to assess the accumulation of copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), and chromium (Cr) in dorsal muscle tissues, focusing on contamination trends and bioaccumulation patterns. While concentrations generally align with established European Commission's safety thresholds, occasional exceedances, particularly for Cd and Pb, highlight episodic contamination events, especially during the 1990s and early 2000s. To evaluate potential health concerns, key risk assessment metrics: estimated daily intake (EDI), target hazard quotient (THQ), total target hazard quotient (TTHQ), and carcinogenic risk index (CRI) were applied. Cadmium consistently emerged as the most critical contaminant, with THQ and TTHQ values exceeding 1 in specific years, particularly among children due to higher intake per body weight. Although CRI values for Pb remained within the acceptable range, the cumulative non-carcinogenic risk during peak contamination periods warrants concern. The declining contamination trend observed in recent years reflects the effectiveness of environmental regulations. However, prolonged exposure to these metals may impact marine ecosystem stability and trophic interactions. Given the potential for cumulative pollutant effects and the possibility of re-emergence due to episodic contamination events, continuous surveillance and periodic risk assessments are recommended. This study highlights the significance of sustainable environmental monitoring and targeted mitigation efforts to protect marine ecosystems, sustain fisheries, and ensure seafood safety in the Black Sea region

Exercise addiction and associated factors among physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians
Background Exercise addiction (EA) is increasingly recognized as a behavioral disorder. Physicians in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), who prescribe and practice exercise regularly, may represent a vulnerable group. Objective This study aimed to evaluate EA and related factors in PMR physicians. Methods In this web-based cross-sectional survey (January-February 2025), 143 PMR physicians participated. The questionnaire included sociodemographic and occupational data and the validated Turkish version of the Exercise Addiction Scale (EAS). The EAS consists of 17 items rated on a five-point Likert scale, yielding scores of 17-85. Cut-off values classify participants as normal (17), low risk (18-34), at risk (35-51), addicted (52-69), or severely addicted (70-85). The Turkish validation demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88). Statistical analyses were performed using R (version 4.4.0), including descriptive statistics and ordered logistic regression. Results Of 143 participants, 103 (72.0%) were female and 40 (28.0%) male, with a mean age of 36.9 +/- 10.6 years. According to EAS, 17.5% were low risk, 64.3% at risk, and 18.2% addicted. Logistic regression identified weekly exercise frequency (odds ratios [OR]: 8.17 for 1-2 days, 9.92 for 3-5 days, 20.75 for >5 days), medical experience (OR: 0.20 for >10 years), and workplace (OR: 3.45 for secondary hospitals) as significant predictors (p < 0.05). Conclusion EA risk is high among PMR physicians. Awareness and preventive strategies are required, and further studies should explore additional risk factors

AoI-Driven IoT Fault Detection for Smart Grids
Ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electric distribution grids necessitates real-time fault detection systems that prioritize data freshness and transmission efficiency. This paper presents the first Age of Information (AoI)-driven IoT fault detection system, powered by an AoI-optimized algorithm that dynamically adjusts transmission intervals to ensure timely and critical updates. By integrating ESP32 and STM32 micro-controllers with an MQTT-based communication framework, the system adapts to network conditions, mitigating congestion while improving data precision. As a pilot project, the system was deployed across five transformer stations on a live power grid, where it successfully detected 27 fault types with high accuracy. Experimental results show timely fault detection with minimal data use - 17 KB/year in fault mode and 55 MB/year in continuous mode - enabling long-term, battery-powered operation
