Lo spettatore convertito — metamorfosi del corpo umano nella performance La Plaza
No full textThis article analyses La Plaza (2018), as performed by El Conde de Torrefiel (Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert), as a case study to understand how the concept of fluidity could actively influence the deep poetic and aesthetic core of a performance. In order to describe the trajectories of the representation of the human figure in this performance, we will challenge the apparent indefiniteness of this metamorphosis, identifying three specific kind of bodies: the invisible, the untouchable, the contagious. In my vision, the spectator, as the main character of La Plaza, lives an experience of conversion, that evokes also a reflection on the transformative power of the theatre. I adopt references and materials belonging to different disciplines, as philosophy (Giorgio Agamben, Jean-Luc Nancy, Maurizio Ferraris and Graham Harman), cultural studies and history of art (José van Dijck, Michael Baxandall, Georges Didi-Huberman), crossing some basic notions from the model of Reality without Realism, theorized by Arkady Plotnitsky

No full textMost orthodox congregations in the PCN admit those who have publicly confessed their faith to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Because the average age at which such confessions of faith are made is eighteen, the Lord’s Supper is an occasion exclusively for adults. This article questions this practice based on John Calvin’s views on covenant, baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. By carefully reading Calvin’s views of infant baptism, especially the infants’ belonging to the community of the covenant, by evaluating his exegesis of 1 Corinthians 11:27-29, and Calvin’s view of the Lord’s Supper, and looking at the theory of embodiment and liturgical play as developed by Lydia van Leersum-Bekebrede, this article argues for allowing children to publicly confess their faith and participate in the Lord’s Supper
Debt and Desire: Differential Exploitation and Gendered Dimensions of Debt and Austerity
No full textAusterity as management of public debt is at the core of neoliberal policies and proceeds as differential exploitation. To explore the gendered dimensions of debt, the paper inquires how debt is bond to desire and inscribed in bodies. After indulging in David Graeber’s, Gilles Deleuze’s and Félix Guttari’s work, the analysis focuses on accumulation through debt and dispossession. Drawing on Verónica Gago, Luci Cavallero and Silvia Federici, it reflects how current economies of debt exploit feminized work in times of authoritarian neoliberalism. Trump announced he would seek to become the Republican candidate for the 2024 US Presidential elections – and, both among those who have officially announced to be doing the same, as well as those who are likely to do so, his chances of securing the nomination are significant. The current legal investigations have done nothing to change that. Given that he is then expected to run against incumbent Democratic president Joe Biden, whose popularity has been diminished over the past few years, Trump stands a real chance to be elected president of the United States of America a second time. No full textFocusing on Germany and Austria from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, this erudite and thorough study aims at historicizing the use of diaries as scholarly evidence and historical sources in the academic disciplines of pedagogy and early childhood research, youth psychology, and the new cultural history emerging in the 1980s. For each of these disciplines, Li Gerhalter, the long-time curator and now director of the ‘Sammlung Frauennachlässe’ at the University of Vienna (https://sfn.univie.ac.at/hauptmenue/bestand/), traces whose diaries were collected, when, by whom, for which scholarly purposes, and to what effect for the formation and transformation of the respective academic discipline under scrutiny. In addition, the individual chapters shed light on the donors of diaries, the culture and practices of diary writing, and the different communicative and epistemological functions that diaries had for their writers and researchers
