The infamous and hyper-masculine sexploitation genre, a form of lower-budget films, was hugely known in the 1960s and 1970s for its erotic and subordinate portrayal of women. This article uses the feminist sexploitation film The Working Girls (1974) to illustrate how Stephanie Rothman, as one of the few female directors, was still able to incorporate feminist messages into the patriarchal film industry of the 1970s
Invloedrijke stemmen.
Editorial
We are very pleased to bring you this Special Issue (SI) for the Journal of Virtual Exchange entitled Virtual Exchange and the Development of Transferable Skills : A Review of Practices Across Disciplines. The overarching theme of the papers, each one integrating online pedagogical practice within a Virtual Exchange (VE), is the development of participants’ transferable skills to other work and study contexts. While there is no one universally-accepted definition of what transferable skills are, or consensus on what they include or exclude, they are as a blanket-term increasingly sought after by employers in recruitment and job descriptions to complement professional knowledge. O’Dowd in the Foreword provides a succinct discussion of the term. We understand transferable skills as a concept embracing a wide spectrum of cognitive, affective and behavioural competencies; examples featuring in the manuscripts below include intercultural communication and global citizenship, digital literacies, critical-thinking and mentoring. Expanding the concept of transferable skills, the newer term transversal skills can include ICT, language and cognitive skills (e.g., collaboration, negotiation and information-sharing) (Goggin et al., 2019), and these learning outcomes can also be seen in the Special Issue
Metaphors of Crisis Migration: Evidence from a Cross-National Corpus Study
The study explores the role of metaphors in European media representations of migrants and refugees du-ring the ‘refugee crisis’. It is conducted on a corpus of over six million words, consisting of newspa-per articles published between 2015 and 2018 in Poland, Spain, and the UK. It employs a con-cordancer to retrieve all instantiations of metaphors: (1) identified via a manual search in a sample of the corpus using the Pragglejaz Group’s Metaphor Identification Procedure (2007); and (2) discussed in previous studies concerning metaphorical representations of immigrants (e.g., El Refaie, 2001; Mu-solff, 2015; Taylor, 2021). Five main metaphors have been detected which liken migrants to commod-ities, liquids, animals, invaders, and (unwanted) guests, with some variation across the three subcor-pora. The identified metaphors’ functions are examined and potential implications are discussed. The results help put some of the frequently discussed mappings into perspective by pointing to a possible disproportion between the amount of attention paid to some metaphors in previous contributions and their actual frequencies in migration-related media discourse

The writer Peder W. Cappelen (1931-1992), although one of the most prolific Norwegian playwrights of the 1960s to 1980s, is little known abroad and has also received little attention from Norwegian literary historians. One of the reasons may be that he was considered an apolitical poet in an era that had once again taken up the banner of putting problems up for debate and taking a political standpoint, and that as a playwright he mainly took up material from folk poetry or medieval literature. Using the example of his 1972 myth drama Lòke, I would like to show that, on the contrary, Cappellen very clearly takes up contemporary political and social issues in this play. The fact that the play was not more successful is rather due to the new realism of Norwegian literature in the 1970s. With his myth drama and especially with the constellation of characters in it, which assigns Lòke the role of a mediator, Cappelen proved to be ahead of his time, because in the 1980s there are a number of myth adaptations that make use of Loki\u27s potential to overcome dualisms such as that between gods and giants. The writer Peder W. Richthofen en Hettema.
Was ist passiert?
