Replication data for: Electron behaviour around the onset of magnetic reconnection
This data set contains 4 data files named fields-*.dat and 1 data file named parts-11600-p00000.dat, all containing binary simulation data, one ReadMe text file and one ReadData python script to read the binary data in the fields files. The binary data was created using Fortran 90. The fields-*.dat files contain electric and magnetic fields and average particle data in the simulation domain for relevant times in our analysis. The parts file contains the exact position and velocity of every particle assigned to the process indicated by the number after -p in the file name. The total particle number in the simulation is distributed on 16 processes.
In the study this data set was created for, we investigate the onset of magnetic reconnection in a tail-like configuration with no initial perturbation.Article abstract: We investigate the onset of magnetic reconnection, utilising a fully kinetic Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulation. Characteristic features of the electron phase-space distributions at the time immediately before reconnection onset are identified. These include signatures of pressure non-gyrotropy in the electron velocity distributions, and lemon shaped distributions in the in-plane velocity directions. Further, we explain how these features form through investigation of the particle energisation by the out-of-plane electric field. Identification of these features in the distributions can aid in analysis of data where clear signatures of ongoing reconnection are not yet present
Replication Data for: The importance of foundation species identity: a field experiment with lichens and their associated micro-arthropod communities
This dataset contains reproduction data for "The importance of foundation species identity: a field experiment with lichens and their associated micro-arthropod communities" by Roos et al. 2022. The dataset contains data on microarthropod abundance extracted from lichen patches with different species compositions (from monocultures to four species in mixture).Foundation species provide habitat and modify the availability of resources to other species. In nature, multiple foundation species may occur in mixture, but little is known on how their interactions shape the community assembly of associated species. Lichens provide both structural habitat and resources to a variety of associated organisms and thereby serve as foundation species. In this study, we use mat-forming lichens and their associated micro-arthropods as a miniature ecosystem to study potential synergies between foundation species diversity and the abundance and functional diversity of higher trophic levels. We created lichen patches with monocultures and mixtures of up to four species, and extracted Collembola (identified to species level), Oribatida, Mesostigmata, Pseudoscorpiones, and Araneae with Tullgren apparatuses after 106 days of incubation within a natural lichen mat. We found that different lichen species supported different arthropod abundances. For 19 out of in total 55 lichen mixtures and arthropod groups, we found non-additive, synergistic effects on arthropod abundance, although the specific lichen mixture causing synergistic effects differed per arthropod group. In addition, synergistic effects on arthropod abundance were more common for arthropod groups at lower trophic levels. The functional diversity of lichen mixtures explained patterns in Collembola abundance, but in the opposite direction than hypothesized because synergistic responses were more frequent in functionally similar lichen mixtures. Finally, we found few effects of lichen mixture identity or diversity on the functional diversity of Collembola communities. When applied to large scale ecosystems, our results suggest that understanding interactions between coexisting foundation species and identifying those species that drive synergistic effects of foundation species on consumer biota, is likely to be of importance to biodiversity conservation and restoration efforts

High resolution microscopy is heavily dependent on superb optical elements and superresolution microscopy even more so. Correcting unavoidable optical aberrations during post-processing is an elegant method to reduce the optical system’s complexity. A prime method that promises superresolution, aberration correction, and quantitative phase imaging is Fourier ptychography. This microscopy technique combines many images of the sample, recorded at differing illumination angles akin to computed tomography and uses error minimisation between the recorded images with those generated by a forward model. The more precise knowledge of those illumination angles is available for the image formation forward model, the better the result. Therefore, illumination estimation from the raw data is an important step and supports correct phase recovery and aberration correction. Here, we derive how illumination estimation can be cast as an object detection problem that permits the use of a fast convolutional neural network (CNN) for this task. We find that faster-RCNN delivers highly robust results and outperforms classical approaches by far with an up to 3-fold reduction in estimation errors. Intriguingly, we find that conventionally beneficial smoothing and filtering of raw data is counterproductive in this type of application. Replication data for: Stable Southern Hemisphere westerly winds throughout the Holocene until intensification in the last two millennia
This dataset includes leaf wax abundances and hydrogen isotope values (δD) presented in van der Bilt et al. 2022 – accepted in Nature Communications Earth and Environment. The data derive from two lake sediments cores retrieved from Lake Diamond on South Georgia (54.4°S, 36.6°W): 46 cm long surface core LDS2 (4 samples) and 246 cm piston core LDP2 (57 samples: 52 from lake sediments, and 5 for underlying peat). This composite record covers the past 7200 years. Leaf waxes were extracted from the sediments using silica gel column chromatography. Compounds were then treated with copper to remove elemental sulfur and eluted through silver nitrate-impregnated silica gel to remove unsaturated hydrocarbons before quantification on an Agilent 7890 gas chromatograph (GC) equipped with mass selective (MSD) and flame ionization (FID) detectors. Isotope ratios were then determined using a Thermo Delta V Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS). The data are organized per paper figure (all compiled in Adobe Illustrator) per .txt file: here, we only upload leaf wax data that was specifically generated for this specific study (not related datasets listed in the metadata fields). These, and all other plotted context data that has been previously published and/or generated by others, are stored in a Supplementary Data file that accompanies our paper. The data behind Figure 3 includes the abundance (%) of all measured leaf wax n-alkane chain lengths for each down-core sample (with accompanying depth and age information), as well as the Average Chain Length (ACL). The data behind Figure 4 shows the average abundance (%) and calculated standard deviations (σ) for each n-alkane chain length per stratigraphic unit (D and F) or sediment type (lacustrine or peat). The data behind Figure 6 includes the isotope composition (‰) of each analyzed n-alkane chain length for each measured sample (with accompanying depth and age information). The data behind Figure 9 includes the measured or inferred offset between terrestrial (terr) and aquatic (aq) n-alkane chain lengths, an index used in the discussion to argue for wind-driven evaporation at our study site. The data set measures participants in a course and their experience of five important elements in a recovery process. The elements measured are Hope, Quality of life, Empowerment, Loneliness and Confidence. The scope is to examine the participants experience of the intervention.
Article abstract:
In the field of mental health and substance use community-services, the recovery phenomenon has gained increasingly focus, in which peer-support plays an essential role. The study aim to explore the translation and implementation of the peer-led intervention “Recovery is up to you” from Dutch to Norwegian regarding attendance, acceptability, in this case meaning completion and drop-out, and impact. Background information on participants, attendance rate and validated measures assessing hope (HHI), quality of life (MANSA), confidence (MHCS), loneliness (LS) and empowerment (NEL) were used. Descriptive analysis, t-test for the comparison of means (except for age where z-test was used) and chi-square statistics for the categorical variables were conducted. The sample constituted 89 participants (65.2% male, 34.8% female). Most had substance use issues. There was a significantly positive impact regarding hope. Participants differed from those in the Dutch RCT-study regarding age, gender and reason for participating. The Norwegian group had a weaker connection to the labor market but a stronger connection to health and social services. Over half of the attendees completed the course. Drop-out was within the normal range and implied acceptability. The results are promising regarding the usefulness and further implementation of the course in a Norwegian setting. This knowledge supports the positive results from the Dutch studies

The dataset contains bibliographic information about scientific articles published by researchers from Norwegian research organizations and is an enhanced subset of data from the Cristin database. Cristin (current research information system in Norway) is a database with bibliographic records of all research articles with an Norwegian affiliation with a publicly funded research institution in Norway.
The subset is limited to metadata about journal articles reported in the period 2013-2021 (186,621 records), and further limited to information of relevance for the study (see below). Article metadata are enhanced with open access status by several sources, particularly unpaywall, DOAJ and hybrid-information in case an article is part of a publish-and-read-deal.</p

This data set contains phase and amplitude scintillation data at 60 seconds time resolution at Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard.
The measurements were collected by the University of Bergen using a NovAtel GPStation-6 global navigation satellite system receiver. The measurements include signals from GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO at different frequencies. These data are used for research on space weather disturbances in the polar ionosphere.

Experiment data for the HERB ABM
This dataset is the foundation for the article "Effect of policy implementation on energy retrofit behavior and energy consumption in a simulated neighborhood", currently under review. The article presents an agent-based model, which feeds a decision-making process based on existing behavioral household retrofit research with survey data and assesses the impact of different policies on cumulative energy need over 100 years. The model then implements four different policies intended to reduce household energy use and evaluated their impact.

This data set contains Total Electron Content data at 60 seconds time resolution at Kjell Henriksen Observatory (KHO) at Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
The measurements were collected by the University of Bergen using a NovAtel GPStation-6 global navigation satellite system receiver. The measurements include signals from GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO at different frequencies. These data are used for research on space weather disturbances in the polar ionosphere.
