    Replication Data for: Individual patterns of anadromy determine the cost of salmon lice exposure in brown trout.

    Facultative anadromous salmonids may alter migratory behaviour to mitigate against detrimental infections of aquaculture-derived salmon lice (Lepeophtherius salmonis), however this likely incurs negative growth and fitness consequences. This flexibility in migratory behaviour also creates analytical challenges in estimating lice infestation levels and the direct/indirect consequences of exposure. We utilised simulated individual migration trajectories of facultatively anadromous brown trout (Salmo trutta) (N=8049), generated from spatial-temporal fjord-use models fitted to empirical tracking data (N=517). These trajectories were superimposed with open-access spatial-temporal modelled lice densities. Individual accumulated lice exposure and infestation was simulated over a six-month period for smolts and annually for veteran migrant life-stages. The degree of direct and indirect mortality was estimated according to year (2013–2015), population (N=5) and life-stage of brown trout, within a semi-enclosed fjord system (Sognefjorden, Norway). A gradient of lice was spatially distributed throughout the fjord. Highest densities were modelled in the outer-fjord at a closer vicinity to aquaculture facilities. As most brown trout remained in the inner-fjord, an area protected from aquaculture, accumulated levels of lice exposure and infestation were low, resulting in limited direct mortality (smolts: 0.07 %, veteran migrants: 0.04 %). Accumulated lice infestation was higher for individuals that underwent long-distance migrations, residing for longer in the outer-fjord, with limited differences observed between years. Indirect mortality attributable to lice was greater for long-distance migrants (smolts: 25.3 %, veteran migrants: 14.8 %), versus those remaining within the inner-fjord (smolts: 14.7 %, veteran migrants: 1.7 %). This resulted in an unequal lice-induced mortality loss among populations (range: 3.3– 34.3 %)

The research utilizes Orthogonal Arrays in combination with regression analysis to systematically test the parameter space of an engineered system function. We used Orthogonal Arrays first to detect, and later in analyzing, the parameter space where the system model does not comply with a defined Measure of Effectiveness. The findings from this case study suggest that these methods enable a systematic exploration of the system’s parameter space, allowing for effective detection of detrimental weak emergent behavior. This approach potentially enhances test coverage, expands system operating knowledge, and facilitates mitigation efforts more efficiently.</p

    Drone-based mapping of Larsbreen, Longyearbreen, and Tellbreen in Svalbard

    This database contains drone-based mapping data of three glaciers near Longyearbyen in Svalbard, Norway. There are three locations, Larsbreen, Longyearbreen, and Tellbreen. The dataset was generated using a structure-from-motion (SfM) method using drone-based imagery. The data was processed with Agisoft Metashape (version 1.8.5) and the processed data consists of digital elevation models (DEMs) in georeferenced .TIF file format and orthomosaic maps in georeferenced .JPG or .TIF. In addition, a process report in archived .PDF file format is included for each dataset. Mapping was conducted with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro Enterprise. The fieldwork was conducted in September 2022 on Tellbreen by Eero Rinne and October on Larsbreen and Longyearbreen by Richard Hann

    The dataset contains solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) recordings at 500 MHz from ~25 mg samples of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) in lamellar phase prepared at different hydration states (from 10 mass % to 50 mass %). For every sample we put R-type proton-detected local field (R-PDLF) recoupling experiments recorded with magic angle spinning (MAS) at 5 kHz. This type of experiment allows us to extract the absolute values of order parameters of every C-H bond. We also put 31P spectrum at both 0Hz and 5kHz spinning to verify the lipid phase state. Most of samples contains also recordings of 13C spectra recorded with high repetition number. Methodology is described in ReadMe in details.</p

    Additional file 1 of manuscript titled "Investigating the genetic basis of susceptibility to amoebic gill disease and gill lesions in Atlantic salmon populations using field data", which is currently under review.Background: Gill-related morbidity and mortality are becoming a major concern to the Atlantic salmon industry worldwide. Understanding the genetic mechanism underlying susceptibility to gill diseases or lesions can help to guide mitigation efforts. Genome-wide association analysis was conducted on gill scores from two large cohorts of Atlantic salmon populations, reared in Norway and Canada, that were phenotyped during amoebic gill disease (AGD) outbreaks and at harvest (referred to as gill lesions), respectively. Results: While one novel quantitative trait locus (QTL) region on chromosome 2 was associated with susceptibility to AGD, two QTL regions on chromosomes 2 and 12 were associated with gill lesions. There was no overlap among QTL in these regions, and the lead variants explained between 3 to 10% of the genetic variance. Putative candidate genes identified within or close to the lead variants include tfeb, ZSCAN12l, and ifi44l, with the majority of these genes playing roles relating to immune functions. Fine-mapping the identified QTL region associated with AGD with re-sequence data, revealed a lead intergenic variant explaining 9% of the genetic variance. Conclusions: Our results provide valuable insight into the genetic architecture of susceptibility to AGD and gill lesions and can help guide mitigation efforts
