    NorwegianNewsTopics is a tabular dataset containing metadata and topic distribution of online news articles published in 2023 by 22 Norwegian news outlets. Each row represents one article and includes publication metadata and topic model outputs derived from a 28-topic Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model. The dataset was constructed to analyse topic diversity in Norwegian journalism and to enable comparisons across editorial types and distribution platforms

    Data corresponding to culture observations of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma cultured in independently variable conditions. Corresponds to article: Adele Westgård, Mohamed M Ezat, Thomas B Chalk, Melissa Chierici, Gavin L Foster, Julie Meilland, Large-scale culturing of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, its growth in, and tolerance of, variable environmental conditions, Journal of Plankton Research, Volume 45, Issue 5, September/October 2023, Pages 732–745, https://doi.org/10.1093/plankt/fbad034 The data is observational data from culturing experiments of polar planktic foraminifera Neogloboquadrina pachyderma grown under independently variable conditions. Small (<100um), healthy (active rhizopodial network, test full of brightly coloured cytoplasm) specimens were collected from the Greenland Sea (74.5N, 01.6E), placed into individual bottled and placed into incubators upon return to the ARCLIM culturing lab at UiT, Tromsø. Culturing conditions were temperatures 2-7C, salinity 29.8-36.7, pH 7.8-8.4. This dataset described the biological response, including growth, size, mortality of the specimens in said conditions as well as the growth patterns of asexually reproduced offspring.</p

    Dataset abstract This dataset contains tabular files with data on the currency of four morpho-syntactic features in Standard Scottish English and Standard Southern British English: quotative LIKE, epistemic MUSTN'T, extended uses of the progressive, and YOUSE as a second person plural pronoun. It is drawn from the Bamberg Survey of Language Variation and Change (BSLVC; Krug & Sell 2013). Usage ratings are provided by young, educated speakers, who indicate on an ordinal scale how many speakers in their home country would use a particular feature (embedded in a carrier sentence). The response options are "no-one", "few", "some", "many", "most", and "everyone", and ratings are collected for two different registers: casual speech (informal conversation among friends) and (semi-)formal writing (email to a former teacher). The data include 43 British informants (21 male, 22 female; mean age 21) and 61 Scottish informants (24 male, 37 female; mean age 21). Each participant provided two ratings (spoken vs. written) for a single sentence.Abstract of related publication With empirical research on Scottish Standard English showing a bias towards phonology, the aim of the current study is to contribute to the morpho-syntactic documentation of this variety. Relying on Standard Southern British English for comparison, we concentrate on four eWAVE features, on which the varieties have been noted to diverge: (i) youse as a second person plural pronoun, (ii) extended uses of the progressive, (iii) epistemic mustn’t, and (iv) quotative like. We use questionnaire data, where respondents indicate how many speakers in their home country use a particular feature. Ratings are elicited from 43 English and 61 Scottish participants (mostly university students) for two usage contexts, speech and writing. Our findings corroborate expert ratings in eWAVE and show that the reported currency of all features is higher in Scottish Standard English, albeit to varying degrees. Our study draws attention to the complementary potential of questionnaire data in World Englishes research.</p

    This dataset was collected as part of the MULTICLIM project at the University of Oslo: https://www.mn.uio.no/ibv/english/research/sections/aqua/research-projects/144612/ The dataset contains raw data from experiments investigating the combined effects of imidacloprid, drought and increased temperature on the survival of two different springtail species; Folsomia quadrioculata and Hypogastrura viatica, comparing populations originating from Arctic and temperate regions to represent adaptation to different climatic regions with their macroclimates. Springtails were exposed to imidacloprid followed by drought exposure at two different temperatures within the springtails thermal range. The dataset contains survival data, as well as measured imidacloprid concentration in soil, the relative humidity in drought chambers, and the exposure temperature

    Norsk beskrivelse: Prosjektet har bestått av 3 delstudier. I delstudie I har vi utforsket hvilken helsemessig betydning det har å bo i eget hjem, hvordan eldre mottakere av hjemmesykepleie opplever hjemmets betydning i et helsefremmende perspektiv og hva de eldre selv opplever som viktig for å få flere gode dager hjemme. Det er gjennomført intervjuer med en narrativ tilnærming. Funnene viser at det å bo i eget hjem kan styrke uavhengighet, autonomi, identitet og selvfølelse, og bidrar til å bevare både fysisk og mental aktivitet. Å kunne ta egne valg, være omgitt av kjente ting og utføre hverdagsaktiviteter styrker opplevelsen av kontroll og helse. Samtidig er både formell og uformell støtte avgjørende for trygghet og mestring. Balanse mellom krav og ressurser, samt samspill mellom offentlige tjenester og familie, er sentralt for å kunne bo hjemme. Økende digitalisering kan støtte selvstendighet, men flere opplever digitale utfordringer og god veiledning er avgjørende. I delstudie II har vi gjennomført narrative intervjuer med ektefeller og voksne barn om deres erfaringer som pårørende til eldre hjemmeboende som får hjemmesykepleie, samt gjort observasjoner av samhandlingen mellom ektefeller og helsepersonell i den eldres hjem. Resultatene viser hvordan mannlig og kvinnelige ektefeller har ulike omsorgs- og mestringsstrategier, mens de voksne barna etterlyser støtte i pårørenderollen, systematisk involvering og betydningen av at foreldrene får gode og tilstrekkelige omsorgstjenester. Samlet indikerer resultatene behov for individuell tilnærming til de pårørende og tilpasning av tjenester. I delstudie III har vi utforsket hvordan simulering kan brukes for å trene helsepersonell i å utføre systematisk tverrfaglig kartlegging av hjemmeboende eldres helse for å iverksette tiltak for å opprettholde helse. Erfaringer med å gjennomføre og å delta i kartlegging er innhentet gjennom intervjuer. Resultatene viser at simulering er en effektiv læringsmetode for å styrke helsepersonells ferdigheter i kartlegging av hjemmeboende eldres helsebehov. Tverrfaglige team har gjennomført kartlegginger av 40 hjemmeboende eldre i forbindelse med søknad om kommunale helse- og omsorgstjenester i hjemmet og igjen fem måneder senere. Funnene indikerer at tverrfaglig kartlegging er gjennomførbart i praksis, og avdekker helsebehov som kan overses og har betydning for de eldres helse. Helsepersonell beskriver kartleggingsverktøyene som nyttige for å identifisere behov, og fremhever betydningen av tverrfaglig samarbeid. De eldre opplevde at kartlegging og oppfølging bidro til å støtte uavhengighet, verdighet og daglig funksjon i hjemmet. English description: Sub-study I explores the health significance of living in one’s own home, how elderly recipients of home nursing services perceive the importance of the home from a health-promoting perspective, and what elderly recipients of home nursing services themselves consider important for promoting more good days at home. The findings show that living in one’s own home promotes independence, identity, and meaning in everyday life and helps preserve both physical and mental activity. Being able to make their own choices, remain surrounded by familiar things, and engage in daily activities strengthens their sense of control and wellbeing. At the same time, both formal and informal support are essential for safety and managing. A balance between demands and personal resources, and close coordination between public services and family, are crucial to remaining at home. Increasing digitalization can enhance independence, but many still experienced digital challenges and good support is essential. In sub-study II we have explored the experiences of spouses and adult children as caregivers for older persons living at home and receiving home nursing services. The aim was to gain knowledge about factors that promote the health of family caregivers. Interviews with a narrative approach have been conducted with spouses and adult children, as well as observations of the interaction between spouses and healthcare professionals in the older persons’ home. The findings show that male and female spouses employ different caregiving and coping strategies, while adult children call for support in the caregiving role, systematic involvement, and emphasize the importance of their parents receiving high-quality and adequate care services. Taken together, the findings indicate a need for a customized approach to family caregivers and for adaptation of services. The observational study further shows that interactions are characterized by fragmented communication and adaptation to the rhythm of home-care services, highlighting the need for organizational structures within services that support interpersonal interaction. In sub-study III we have explored how simulation can be used to train healthcare personnel in performing systematic interdisciplinary assessments of the health of elderly people living at home, to implement measures to maintain health. It is explored how systematic interdisciplinary health assessments, and the implementation of measures can be carried out in municipal health and care services. The participants’ perspectives on participating in the assessments is investigated. The results show that simulation is an effective learning method for supporting healthcare professionals’ skills in assessing the health needs of older adults living at home. Interprofessional teams conducted assessments of forty older adults in connection with applications for municipal home‑based health and care services, and again five months later. The findings indicate that interprofessional assessment is feasible and can identify health needs that may be overlooked and is significant for older adults’ health. Healthcare professionals perceive the assessment tools as useful for identifying needs and emphasize the importance of interprofessional collaboration. The older adults reported that the assessments and follow‑up supported their independence, dignity, and daily functioning at home.<p

    Replication Data for: Finding common ground in commercial forests: sheep grazing, timber production, and carnivore fences

    This dataset was created to support the article titled "Finding common ground in commercial forests: sheep grazing, timber production, and carnivore fences". We sampled clearcuts of regenerating spruce 29 July - 29 August 2024 in Inland and Trøndelag counties, Norway.Sheep grazing has the potential for positive impacts on commercial forestry through weeding competing plants, or to be detrimental if browsing and trampling levels are high. In some regions of Norway, large, forested areas are fenced to minimize depredation risk from recovering carnivore populations on unsupervised sheep, but fences may alter the behavior of sheep leading to differential effects inside and outside of these fences. We examined terminal leader growth of regenerating Norway spruce (Picea abies) and found that growth decreased with increasing grazing intensity inside fences, whereas growth increased with grazing intensity outside. Sheep grazing in our study had a positive effect on spruce sapling growth form, measured by a decrease in height-to-diameter ratio both inside and outside of fences. While less than three percent of saplings were browsed overall, browsing of saplings did increase at higher grazing intensities but trampling was negligible. Our results suggest that sheep grazing is compatible with spruce regeneration and carnivore fencing as negative impacts from increasing amounts of sheep resulting in reduced growth of terminal leaders may have been offset by decreasing height-to-diameter ratios with more sheep. Lower height-to-diameter ratios suggest more resilient saplings that could make them more resilient to stressors such as heavy snow load. However, if sheep are allowed to reach high grazing intensities, this balance may not be achieved as browsing increases. With increasing demands on forested landscapes, integrating sheep grazing in carnivore-resistant fences on commercial forests presents an opportunity for multiple-use land management with minimal associated trade-offs.</p

    This dataset contains the summarized simulation results used in the paper "UAV Icing: Numerical Simulations of Electrothermal Wing De-icing with Shedding Prediction". The aim of the paper is to numerically predict ice shedding from a wing with an electrothermal de-icing system. Based on experimental results, shedding is modeled when 83% of the interface ice-structure have melted. Using this threshold and comparing different de-icing heat fluxes, the datasets contains the required heating time and energy for the ice protection system.
