Assessing the consistency of numerical models for wind instrument impedance

    No full text
International audienceNumerical simulation of the input impedance of wind instruments is the basis of much work in music acoustics. However, the accuracy and reproducibility of such simulations across different contributors remain little documented. This study aims to benchmark the reliability of numerical simulations for pipe impedance, focusing on simple geometries such as cylindrical and conical pipes, and to identify key factors influencing simulation variability.A collaborative approach was adopted, involving multiple contributors employing various numerical models, including TMM, FEM (1D or 3D), etc., and eventually different physical models for the propagation, the boundary conditions, and the thermo-viscous effects. Significant variability in simulation results was observed due to differences in implementation, numerical precision, and boundary condition modelling. Incomplete convergence in some methods also contributed to discrepancies. Despite these challenges, the collaborative work and exchanges reduced variability and improved consistency across contributors. The study highlights the importance of such benchmark and the interest to adopt good practices including verification of the numerical tools through comparative analysis and identification of convergence criteria. This work provides a framework for improving the reproducibility an accuracy of numerical simulations in musical acoustics context

Hybrid auxetics: Postponing failure with elastomer infiltration of Ti-6Al-4V lattices

    No full text
International audienceThis work examines how a soft elastomeric phase can be used to reinforce and delay the failure of additively manufactured metal lattice structures with auxetic geometry. A novel hexaround unit-cell was designed to ensure printability of Ti-6Al-4V via laser powder-bed fusion. Once infiltrated with a compliant polyurethane, these hybrid lattices showed a pronounced delay in strut-level failure and shear-band formation. Microtomography coupled with in-situ compression experiments confirmed that nodal cracking commonly observed in unfilled lattices is mitigated by the polymer phase. While hybrid lattices exhibited comparable or slightly increased stiffness only at large deformations, their enhanced integrity and stress redistribution suggest promise for crashworthiness and impact applications requiring high ductility or energy absorption. We discuss how the stiffness ratio between filler and metallic skeleton determines the extent of improvement, offering design guidelines for next-generation hybrid lattices. This is the first in-situ tomographic evidence that a compliant matrix can defer the critical shear-band in an additively manufactured metal auxetic lattice

    Constructions mentales et constructions discursives

This text, based on the characteristics that enable them to be identified, examines how they can be identified. Analysing their reciprocal iteration can help to account for the implicit and explicit aspects between representations and actions in professional practices.

    No full text
International audienceThis contribution aims to show how the formalization of the professional world of the native podcast from the mid-2010’s onwards takes place at the crossroads of other professional spaces, first and foremost that of radio. The demonstration is is based on around fifty semi-structured interviews with podcast players, as well as on a study of their public discourse. First, we study the way in which the players attempt to construct the symbolic legitimacy of the podcast as a sector in its own right. We also show the heterogeneity of the trajectories of podcast ‘professionals’, challenging them to find a viable socio-economic model.

    No full text

Inside Job: Defending Kubernetes Clusters Against Network Misconfigurations

    No full text
International audienceKubernetes has emerged as the de facto standard for container orchestration. Unfortunately, its increasing popularity has also made it an attractive target for malicious actors. Despite extensive research on securing Kubernetes, little attention has been paid to the impact of network configuration on the security of application deployments. This paper addresses this gap by conducting a comprehensive analysis of network misconfigurations in a Kubernetes cluster with specific reference to lateral movement. Accordingly, we carried out an extensive evaluation of 287 open-source applications belonging to six different organizations, ranging from IT companies and public entities to non-profits. As a result, we identified 634 misconfigurations, well beyond what could be found by solutions in the state of the art. We responsibly disclosed our findings to the concerned organizations and engaged in a discussion to assess their severity. As of now, misconfigurations affecting more than thirty applications have been fixed with the mitigations we proposed
