Allusion, as one of the strategies of intertextuality, is a tool used in political discourse to enhance the persuasiveness of oral or written texts. Referring to historical events, figures, myths, or well-known cultural symbols, political actors establish a connection with their audience and rely on shared knowledge and values to strengthen their arguments. The aim of this paper is to define the role of allusion in political discourse and to analyze its functions, types and impact on public perception and political effectiveness. The functions of allusion in political discourse are diverse: to enhance and reinforce credibility and authority, to provide emotional resonance, to condense complex ideas, to provide criticism and to mobilize public opinion. Among the types of allusion used in political discourse there are historical, religious, literary and cultural allusions. When using historical allusion, the addressee refers to past events and draws parallels with the present. Religious allusion is especially prevalent in societies where religion plays an important role in public life. With literary allusion politicians refer to famous authors or works - such allusions are especially effective when they relate to issues closely related to contemporary political reality. Finally, cultural allusion is linked to popular culture and national identity.   Thus, allusion in political discourse is a powerful tool for argumentation, shaping public perception, simplifying complex issues and mobilizing collective action. As one of the central features of political communication, allusion clearly demonstrates the ways in which language and culture are intertwined to shape the political landscape.

William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies uses the symbolic meaning of characters, colors, and objects to provide another terrifying example of a dystopian world. The characters in the novel are only symbolically children; in reality, they represent a destructive society and various social classes. Each of them embodies chaos, illusionary harmony, kindness, cruelty and the lust for power. The objects on the island indicate the psychological state of the characters and the disintegration of civilization. The colors emphasize the internal states of the main characters and reflect the variability of the environment. Each symbol clearly demonstrates one of the key ideas of the novel: that when the sense of humanity and moral accountability disappears, the inner demon within a person and the desire for power awakens. Accordingly, the novel not only conveys the theme of children’s survival on the island, but is also imbued with deep psychological and sociological elements. It reveals the extremes of human nature and shows what happens when it is freed from social control and moral boundaries. Finally, the symbolic aspects of Golding’s novel remind us how important it is to accept one another, show solidarity, and remain humane in order to preserve our humanity and avoid becoming like the beast impaled on a stick or the novel’s antagonistic characters.

This article explores the phenomenon of discursive eloquence within psycholinguistic, rhetorical, and cultural frameworks. Eloquence is examined not merely as a skillful use of language, but as a complex interplay between cognition, language, and speech, deeply embedded in individual psychology and socio-cultural context. The study emphasizes the triadic model of communication, wherein thought (cognition) governs verbal expression and speech acts as the realized form of meaning-making. Theoretical foundations include Speech Act Theory (Austin, Searle), which interprets language not solely as a vehicle of information, but as a means of action. In this view, discursive eloquence functions as a context-dependent, action-oriented linguistic event that unites grammatical correctness with emotional charge and stylistic richness. The article also draws on discourse theory to explain how communication settings and interlocutor characteristics shape verbal content and form. A key focus is the structural elements of eloquence—tropes (metaphor, epithet, litotes), rhetorical figures (antithesis, parallelism, rhetorical questions), and phonetic euphony (alliteration, rhythm, intonation)—which collectively produce persuasive, aesthetically resonant, and emotionally engaging speech. The paper foregrounds the contribution of Nikoloz Kandelaki, who pioneered the scholarly study of Georgian eloquence as a carrier of national identity and oral tradition. His work positioned eloquence as a representational mode of collective consciousness that fuses logic, emotion, and ethnic expression in speech. The final section analyzes Zurab Gorgiladze’s poem “Ballad of the Fisher Boy” as a poetic embodiment of discursive eloquence. Through vivid imagery, rich metaphors, and rhythmic harmony, the poem demonstrates how emotional experience is encoded and transmitted via stylistically enhanced discourse.

Robert Frost’s poetry seems to be simple and plain on the surface but it reflects important philosophcal views and values often conveyed through multi-layered text. A metaphor becomes an important means trough which Robert Frost expresses his message. In general, metaphors can reflect characteristics of a country, a culture, an epoch, a literary movemenet a scpecific author belongs to, as well as individual characteristics of an author. It was interesting to study what kinds of metaphors are applied in Robert Frost’s poetry and to what extent they reflect characteristics of American culture. Poems by Robert Frost have been analysed through the criterion of the typological classification of metaphors suggested by Maia and Giorgi Natadze. According to their theory of imagery metaphors are categorized into five types: real, impressionistic, grammar, expressive, and absolute metaphors. It turned out that metaphors used in Robert Frost’s poetry are “objective“ or “real“ which means that the connection between the frist and the second meanings of a metaphor is grounded in connections existing in the real world allowing readers to perceive their meaning relatively easily. It is one of the characteristics of R. Frost’s poetics that his poems function as metaphors as a whole and are multi-layered. In such poem-metaphors additional effect is produced by other simple and short metaphors used within the text. As a result, an interesting form of R. Frost’s poem is created. It is simple and plain in its content but at the same time is permeated with different associations and subtle subtexts.                             Robert Frost’s poems in line with the above scheme have an interesting form and through it express the poet’s Weltanschauung. Consequently, it can be said that R. Frost’s poem-metaphors are extended “expressive“ metaphors and their existence is directly connected with the poet’s view that “metaphor is the whole of poetry“. As to the content, literal and figurative meanings of metaphors reflect universal values as well as characteristics of American culture. It is interesting that in Robert Frost’s poem-metaphor two different cultures, two tendencies existing in American culture are reflected simultaneously . Softly, through metaphors two different epochs and ethos are reflected in the poem. The above scheme can be used as an illustration in this case too.  Robert Frost’s metaphors often reflect themes of responsibility, time, and commitment, all of which are essential values in American culture. It is also conveyed through a metaphorical poem that R. Frost is a cultural pessimist to some extent. Frost’s poem-metaphors reflect different characteristics of American life. Some metaphorical poems contain mystic layers which in their turn are connected with religious beliefs of most Americans (according to the statistical data a vast majority of Americans believe in the existence of the supernatural and consider themselves to be representatives of God-fearing people). In Frost’s poetry a metaphor underscores the profound bond between humanity and nature. This belief is also an important element of American culture since the very first days of the foundation of the country. R. Frost’s extended metaphor also conveys the transcendentalists’ view that God and humanity and nature are interconnected  and form one harmonious entity

This article examines the role and relevance of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, specifically in the field of foreign language learning and teaching. How does AI influence the process of learning foreign languages, and what challenges do schools and universities face? Proper and ethical approaches are required to ensure high-quality education. AI and Modern Approaches to Foreign Language Learning In today’s world, the increasing use of AI in foreign language learning and teaching presents one of the biggest challenges in school and university settings. However, this trend has valid reasons and justifications. What are the benefits of integrating AI into this process? The first and most important advantage is personalized learning. With the help of AI, it is possible to create individualized learning programs that adapt to a student’s knowledge level and learning pace. Research suggests that voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri, and Amazon’s Alexa can provide significant support for language learners. Communicating with these assistants in a chosen language helps improve speaking skills, while these platforms use neural networks to analyze and evaluate pronunciation, offering relevant feedback at any time and frequency. AI also enables the rapid and efficient analysis of a language learner’s progress, which helps instructors and teachers manage the learning process more effectively. Research Findings and Effectiveness Studies indicate that AI significantly enhances the quality of education. For instance, research conducted by Duolingo found that users of the app learn the same amount of material in 34 hours as they would in an 11-week traditional language course. Challenges and Risks Despite its positive outcomes, AI integration in language learning also presents certain challenges: Reduced human interaction – Language learning is not only about acquiring technical knowledge but also about developing social communication skills. Therefore, AI should be seen as an assisting tool rather than a replacement for human interaction. Security and data protection – Ensuring the privacy of students’ personal data is crucial when using AI. Voice assistants and online platforms collect user information, which may pose security risks. Changing role of teachers – AI should not replace teachers but rather serve as a supportive tool in the educational process. Conclusion AI introduces new opportunities for foreign language learning, including personalized education, voice assistants, and automated feedback. However, to maximize its benefits, AI must be properly integrated into the traditional education system. The best results are achieved when technology complements human interaction, leading to a more effective and comprehensiv

Sign Language Linguistics is a relatively young area of linguistic research. However, Sign language linguistics in general has a quite long history in comparison to Georgian Sign Language (GESL) linguistics, which only counts several years. Despite its brief history, GESL research includes almost all the linguistic levels and the features of GESL. The most significant results of GESL linguistic research include: the printed and online dictionary with standardized forms of 4000 signs; comprehensive study of GESL verb morphology; general description of GESL grammar; numerous articles about specific features of GESL (namely, negative concord, different types of object markers, etc.).  The dactyl alphabet of GESL (and Georgian Lorm as well  — for local deaf-blind people) was created in a close cooperation of Georgian Deaf community. Today it needs the administrative support to be implemented in the Deaf educational process. Since Georgia was part of the Soviet Union, with the common sign language  — Russian Sign Language (RSL), which influenced the all other sign langugaes in the Soviet conitry. I also will discuss the origin of GESL. The existing results of GESL research are invaluable for not only sign language linguistics, but also for typological studies of sign and spoken languages. Currently, several research projects are in progress, that aim to study argument structure of GESL, nominal morphology of GESL, and etc. These projects will definitely help to gain fundamental knowledge about this interesting natural sign language. &nbsp

Georgian nation is characterized by long-term continuity and stages of development in accordance with political, cultural, and social transformations. Such understanding of Georgian unity was rarely the subject of study in the historiography of the previous century, as ethnic identity in the Soviet Union was viewed in an essentially — as an unchanging and inherent phenomenon. Modern approaches have given historians better tools to understand identity-related issues. The theoretical material available in current scholarly discourse presents the unity experience from a completely different perspective. In our case, we focus on subjective perceptions of Georgian unity, which significantly define its form and content, and even create a system of values. From the perspective of identity, interesting findings have emerged through the study of medieval texts (such as The Life of Kartli and hagiographic works). In particular, the observation of ethnic terms allowed us to trace the development stages of internal social ties within the unity—from the period of Georgia’s political unification to the late Middle Ages. The study also showed that over the centuries, the intensity and role of ethnic identity markers (language, religion, the myth of common ancestry etc.) changed in response to political and social challenges. According to Georgian Medieval sources this presentation aims to show these changes through specific examples and conclusions

Many foreign authors have contributed significant insights into the history of Georgia. Among them is the Byzantine chronicler Theophanes the Confessor, who lived at the turn of the eighth and ninth centuries and authored the work Chronographia. While Theophanes was not primarily a historian—his primary roles were as a monk and theologian—his engagement with historical writing is considered somewhat incidental, stemming from a request by his friend George Syncellus. Nevertheless, Theophanes holds a prominent place in Byzantine historiography, particularly as a vital source for understanding the 7th and 8th centuries. We lack other sources for this period, which was marked by profound upheavals in Byzantine state affairs, driven by the Arab invasions on one hand and the Iconoclastic Controversy on the other” (S. Kaukhchishvili, Georgika, 1941, vol. 4, pp. 171–172). Theophanes also provides numerous fascinating details about Georgia. One such account recounts the capture of an Iberian prince, Barsamouses//Varsamouses, by Heraclius Caesar during the Battle of Nineveh in 627: "The Romans took many gold swords and gold belts set with pearls, and the shield of Razates, which was all of gold and had 120 laminae, and his gold breastplate; and they brought in his caftan together with his head, and his bracelets and his gold saddle. And Barsamouses, the prince of the Iberians who are subject to Persia, was taken alive" (The Chronicle of Theophanes Confessor, translated with introduction and commentary by C. Mango and R. Scott, with the assistance of G. Greatrex, Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1997, p. 450). The question of identifying this prince has attracted the attention of numerous researchers, leading to various interpretations. For instance, I. Markwart argued that Theophanes the Confessor had misrepresented the name of the Iberian prince. According to Markwart, the name should not be Barsamouse//Varsamouse but rather Vahram-Ashushan, whom he identified as the Bidaxsh of Kvemo Kartli (Markwart, Streifzüge, pp. 432, 387, n.1). K. Toumanoff largely agreed with this view, identifying Vahram-Ashushan as the Bidaxsh of Gogarene (Toumanoff, Studies in Christian Caucasian History, Georgetown, 1963, p. 263). However, I. Javakhishvili did not dismiss the possibility of Markwart’s interpretation but noted that such an assumption was not logically necessary (I. Javakhishvili, History of the Georgian Nation, Tbilisi, 1979, vol. I, p. 306). The discussion by the aforementioned researchers constitutes a concise factual note. The issue, however, was the subject of a dedicated study by V. Goiladze (Goiladze, "Is Varsamouse Mentioned in Theophanes the Confessor the Chintain of Kartli" Herald of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, History Series, 1976, no. 1, pp. 134–140). In his article, Goiladze addressed the perspective presented in Essays on the History of Georgia, which identified Varsamouse as the Chintain of Kartli. He criticized this interpretation while simultaneously not ruling out the possibility that Varsamouse could be the Bidaxsh of Gugarkh. Goiladze further highlighted that the Armenian source Book of Epistles references a prince Ashushan at the beginning of the seventh century, who is presumably identified as a Bidaxsh. However, it appears that the identification of Varsamouse, mentioned by Theophanes, with the Ashushan referenced in the Book of Epistles is incorrect. The political role and identity of Prince Ashushan, as depicted in the Book of Epistles, have been recently analyzed by M. Chkhartishvili (M. Chkhartishvili, "Prince Ashushan: Strokes to the Portrait," Chronos, 2023, no. 4, pp. 65–91). This study reveals that the Ashushan mentioned in the Book of Epistles was not a pro-Persian political figure, whereas the Georgian prince captured near Nineveh fought on the side of Iran. Therefore, the question of the origin of the prince referenced by Theophanes remains unresolved. The paper hypothesizes that the researchers’ inability to solve the problem must be due to Theophanes’ mistake: the latter interpreted the phrase “Georgian Prince” used by him, presumably from a Pahlavi source, as personal name “Varsamouse”.
