Moving Beyond Metaphor
The decolonization of LIS can no longer be metaphorical. We know what must be done, now we must make it real: How do we move beyond metaphor? To honor the scholars doing this work before us, we recommit to their call to get our community #InFormation. This paper revisits assumptions around (neo)coloniality and comm(unity) to identify (non)metaphorical onto-epistemic injustices in LIS which destroy our ability to know and become (Patin et al., 2024). We articulate two practices to guide our transition toward critical praxis. Grounded by compassion, accountability, relationality, and empathy, Responsibilities of Resistance involves perceiving systemic conditions of erasure, giving intentional descriptions of actions, coordinating responses, and engaging in empathetic solidarity. Mentoring in the Round is a pedagogy of protection which emphasizes several benefits of a collective peer group. We diverge from prior work by ending with a demand for action: we are beyond the point of rhetorical plea
A Framework and Action Plan for Serving English Learners in School Libraries
This poster reflects on the results of the School Librarians Facilitating the Success of English Learners grant funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) from 2021 to 2024. The purpose of the grant was to determine how school librarians could best serve English Learners (ELs) in school libraries. Two of the products created for the grant included the School Librarian and English Learner Framework (Smith, 2024), along with the School Librarian English Learner Action Plan (Smith et al., 2024) to implement it. The framework was based on professional literature and the analysis of feedback submitted by an interdisciplinary group of forum participants. These participants included school librarians, school administrators, linguists, public and academic librarians, classroom teachers, and ELs. The School Librarian English Learner Framework outlines nine domains of focus to help school librarians effectively assist ELs in building their English acquisition skills. Domains covered include continuous improvement, programming, lifelong learning, community partnerships, co-teaching relationships, funding, integrating technology, and resources. The action plan is an extension of the framework that provides suggestions for activities that may be completed for each domain included in the plan. School districts and school librarianship certification programs interested in offering professional development for school librarians may adapt the framework.

Long Term Resource Monitoring (LTRM) electrofishing techniques: An addendum to the methods outlined in Ratcliff et al. (2014)
This document provides clarifications related to field procedures for the fisheries component of the Long Term Resource Monitoring (LTRM) element of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration (UMRR) program. Our goal is to clarify procedural field nuances for day electrofishing methods and sampling under LTRM fish component procedures and protocols (Ratcliffe et al. 2014). The need to document such nuances was realized at the 2023 UMRR LTRM fish component field practicum, held in May 2023 at Western Illinois University’s Kibbe Biological Station in Warsaw, Illinois, following cross agency field training and practice. As such, this document should be considered an addendum to the existing standardized field procedures for the UMRR LTRM fish component (Ratcliffe et al. 2014). Moreover, this content should be incorporated into the next update to the fisheries procedure manual

Translation as Politics: Translating Nikolai Karamzin’s Letters of a Russian Traveler in Nineteenth-Century France
This article examines the three translations of Nikolai Karamzin’s Letters of a Russian Traveler published in nineteenth-century France. Relying on Descriptive Translation Studies so as to challenge the traditional narrative about the political innocuousness of Karamzin’s travelogue, it reconstructs the historical contexts of the three publications in order to highlight the political agendas of their translators and/or translating patrons. Far from being the innocent product of the translators’ sheer curiosity, the three translations prove to be political objects, used at three key moments in the history of Franco-Russian relations in the nineteenth century, in order to call for political change, to try and restore Russia’s damaged reputation, or to attempt to forge new diplomatic alliances
Bringing Anne Frank to the Campus Library
College of Saint Mary Library has collaborated to bring Holocaust and genocide education to the library and wider campus. While being a small Catholic institution, there has been strong campus-wide involvement and alignment of values with the project. Library staff have been an integral part of the planning process for programming and funding, while also hosting exhibits within the library and working on collection development. Given the overall success of the exhibits and related programming, along with the high levels of community engagement, there are plans to continue building future initiatives.
