Investigation of Polarization Effects in Wireless Communication Systems Considering Snow-Laden Surfaces in Extreme Environments
This study analyzes the effects of multilayer ground reflections on wireless communication between an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR)
and a base station in extreme environments. Snow-covered ground is modeled as a three-layer medium, and the reflection behavior
is examined under vertical and horizontal polarization conditions. Using the Friis equation at 2.4 GHz, the impact of reflection-induced
interference on received power is evaluated. Results show that horizontal polarization experiences greater interference due to phase reversal,
while vertical polariza- tion provides more stable performance. The findings underscore the importance of selecting appropriate polarization
for reliable LOS communication in snow-laden environments.1
Global attention on short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), notably black arbon, has been growing recently due to deemed greater impact by warming the atmosphere, thereby hastening the melting of arctic glaciers and affecting ocean temperature, leading to sea level rise. The Philippines is an archipelagic nation surrounded by huge bodies of water; thus, sea level is rising continuously. Its legislation, policies, and frameworks were scrutinized, directly focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation to greenhouse gas emissions and SLCPs in particular. It revealed that in terms of black carbon, there were no established guidelines nor monitoring to address its emissions, thus leading to the focus of this study. Collected data from 2019 to 2025 subjected through sampling, thematic and comparative analysis wherein it reveals the correlation of black carbon emissions (BCEs) affecting the sea level and uncovers remote sensing with three methods selected by the International Maritime2

Sediment contamination by harmful heavy metals (HHMs) poses significant risk to ecosystems and human health. Historical mercury
(Hg) data from Cartagena Bay (CB), Colombia (1996-2024) were analyzed. A modified geochemical index ( ) is proposed for improving sediment vertical contamination profiling for a more accurate sediment contamination than traditional approaches, surfacelevel assessments. Numerical results suggest its potential applicability to various coastal areas.1
In-situ direct measurement of hydrothermal flow rate along the Central Indian Ocean Ridge (9-16º S)
Accounting for more than two-thirds of global volcanicactivity and emitting ten times the volume of hydrothermal fluidscompared to arc or back-arc systems, mid-ocean ridges and theirhydrothermal systems play a significant role as crucial conduitsfor the transfer of heat and materials from the geosphere to thehydrosphere.[1] Additionally, the reducing environment of slow-spreading centers facilitates the active release of hydrogen andmethane, along with mantle-derived helium, through interactionsbetween the geosphere and hydrosphere.[2] While thecomposition of hydrothermal fluids from mid-ocean ridges hasbeen relatively well documented, their quantitative flux has onlybeen reported for select locations, including the East PacificRise, Juan de Fuca Ridge, and segments of the Mid-AtlanticRidge.[3][4][5]Here, we present the first direct measurements of discretehydrothermal flux from the Central Indian Ridge, obtainedduring the 2024 expedition aboard R/V ISABU, utilizing theRemotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) CSSF-ROPOS. Fluiddischarge rates were measured at 10 orifices across sixhydrothermal fields using a mechanically operated stainless steelflowmeter in combination with high-resolution imaging data.[6]The flow velocity was calibrated in a circulating waterchannel(CWC) using an acoustic doppler velocimetry. Moreover,we aim to assess discrete material and heat fluxes by integratingthese measurements with helium, hydrogen, and methaneconcentrations from hydrothermal plumes measured in 2023expedition. This study provides high-resolution flux data, enhancing our understanding of material transport in deep-seahydrothermal systems.1
Discovery of a new hydrothermal copepod from the Indian Ocean and proposal of Parabathyesola gen. nov. (Harpacticoida, Laophontidae, Esolinae)
Hydrothermal vent ecosystems are expected to harbor numerous meiobenthic animals; however, few studies have examined the species composition, abundance, and distribution of harpacticoid copepods in deep-sea hydrothermal assemblages. To gain insights into the natural biodiversity of such assemblages, we report a new species, Parabathyesola calida gen. et sp. nov. (subfamily Esolinae, family Laophontidae), from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent in the Onnuri Vent Field located on the Central Indian Ridge. This species can be considered a sister taxon of the monotypic genus Bathyesola Huys & Lee, 2000, sharing six derived character states in the antennules, maxillulary endopod, maxillipedal syncoxa, and thoracic legs in both sexes. However, it differs from Bathyesola in the combination of a female antennule with six segments and the first endopodal segment in the third and fourth legs with an inner seta, justifying the establishment of a new monotypic genus, Parabathyesola gen. nov. Therefore, the subfamily Esolinae now includes 19 species in nine genera. We also provide an amended dichotomous key to the genera of this subfamily.11Ysciescopu
