    Banks’ Strategic International Expansion: Evidence from Africa

    This study identified the strategies adopted by banks in Africa to gain access to international markets and why banks establish foreign operations. Twenty-two African banks were selected to examine the entry mode and number of foreign outlets. The study affirmed that most African banks expanded their operations internationally via acquisitions and strategic alliances. At the same time, the motive for expansion is linked to market development to serve customers operating in overseas markets, government policies, and strategic knowledge sourcing. Furthermore, some reasons identified include expanding operations, defensive expansion, and protecting existing bank client relations. The study recommends that African banks should strive to adapt different internationalisation strategies primarily driven by their desire to gain knowledge

    The existence of mobile banking promotes financial inclusiveness and upgrades the financial literacy of individuals. Mobile banking has drastically grown in the decades both in developed and developing nations. This fast pace of growth is a result of raising various types of products and services related to mobile money for users. In this work, we present additional information that needs to be understood about mobile banking in the context of Madagascar, Africa. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the potential benefits and challenges faced in adopting mobile banking. Understanding the current issues of mobile banking contributes to the advancement of theory and scientific knowledge in banking and finance. In addition to the contribution of this work to the literature on mobile banking, this yields insightful and comprehensive knowledge for the government, central banks, commercial banks, and other financial institutions in forming new strategies to improve the financial system and cope with technological advancement

    Online Communities, Brand Recovery, Consumer Relationships, and Repurchase Intention

    This study examines the influence and linkages between Online Communities, Brand Recovery, Consumer Relationships, and Repurchase Intentions. The case discussed is Tokopedia as one of the big market places in Indonesia. The research uses a quantitative approach with instruments in the form of questionnaires distributed to Tokopedia users. Questionnaire distributed online. The respondent's response is a scale from 1(strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). The data is processed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) model. Brand recovery efforts have a significant positive effect on consumer forgiveness. If users experience high brand recovery efforts, they will also have high consumer forgiveness. Brand restoration efforts have a significant positive impact on repurchase intentions. Online brand community involvement has a significant positive effect on consumer forgiveness. Users were involved in an increased online brand community and will also have high consumer forgiveness. Online brand community involvement has a positive but insignificant effect on repurchase intention

    Effect of Capital Adequacy Requirement on Profitability of Selected Banks Listed on Ghana Stock Exchange

    The study assessed the effect of capital adequacy requirement on profitability of the Ghana Stock Exchange banks between 2013 and 2018. The analyses were based on the Ghana Stock Exchange secondary statistics. The analyzes specifically assessed trends in the capital adequacy ratios and Ghana Stock Exchange profitability of banks and determine the effect of capital Adequacy Ratio on profitability of listed banks. The study found that the banks' average Capital Adequacy Ratio was (Mean=17.21%) in the time. While the mean Return on Equity (Mean=25.46%) and the mean Return on Asset was found to be (Mean=3.05%). While the profitability was adverse and insignificantly affected by the Capital Adequacy Ratio, they were adverse and small in terms of the Return on Equity, while Capital Adequacy Ratio had a positive and important impact on the Return on Equity. Bank size did not have a major effect on Return on Equity and Return on Asset. For local banks, the mean Capital Adequacy Ratio for international banks was approximately the same. Therefore, the study suggested that businesses continue to operate, if not, to guarantee banks are able to cope with any 'credit crunch' economic recession. Banks can ensure that surplus capital is transformed into investment to maximize investment returns

    Understanding the Challenges Faced by Fish Vendors in Iriga City Public Market

    This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the profitability of fish vendors in Iriga City Public Market. The researchers identified the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, age, civil status, family income, and years of doing business. They also determined the factors affecting profitability in terms of product, price, demand, supply, and competition. Findings showed that most fish vendors were female, aged 41-50 years old, married, and had a weekly family income of Php. 500-Php. 1,000. Some vendors had been in business for 10 years, while others were just starting. The product in the market met the needs of customers, while the price was practical and affected by inflation. Demand for fish products was met, and supply was able to keep up with customer demand. Competition was also a factor. The researchers proposed programs to enhance the financial management of fish vendors. The study concluded that the factors affecting profitability were the product offered, price, demand and supply, and competition. The proposed programs could help fish vendors address challenges that affect their profitability. The study recommended that fish vendors should be knowledgeable in pricing strategies, demand and supply factors, and fair competition

    Mapping Brand Equity and Service Quality Perceptions : A Comparative Study of National Private Banks in Indonesia

    This study aims to create a map of brand equity and service quality perceptions of Bank C relative to four other banks in Indonesia, namely Bank KBMI Category 3. Customer perception maps were constructed by asking customers to provide overall similarity ratings for Brand Equity and Service Quality pairs on a metric scale. The study included Bank A, Bank B, Bank C, Bank D, and Bank E customers in Indonesia. One hundred eight respondents were sampled using the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) method, which groups many variables into several factors with similar characteristics. Additionally, the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method was used, a data analysis technique used to explore the data structure based on similarities or dissimilarities. Based on the analysis results, it was found that according to the perceptions of Bank C customers, the bank scored low in the Reliability factor. At the same time, Bank B had the lowest scores in Brand Loyalty and Brand Awareness factors. This indicates that the strengths of both banks lie in these factors. Subsequently, Bank A, Bank E, and Bank D followed in sequential order

    Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic to the Profitability of Villarica Pawnshop Labo Branch, Philippines

    Pawnshops are one of the Financial Service Providers (FSP) in the Philippines that are helping to expand underserved and unserved clients' access to financial services. Pawnshops, like the Villarica Labo branch in Camarines Norte, have verified their financial difficulties. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, they have seen a decline in their income. This study aims to know the status of Villarica’s business operations, the factors affecting its profitability, the level of profitability, and the relationship between status and factors to profitability. A descriptive-correlational research design was utilized to describe the variables and identify if there is a significant relationship present. Results have shown that Villarica Labo branch has a very satisfactory performance in its operations despite the pandemic. It also revealed that factors under Government Intervention very highly affects its profitability. Clearly, the pandemic has negatively affected their earnings. Along factors, the customer dealings, company policy, and business competition also have a positive relationship with profitability while government intervention has shown negative relationship. Recommendations mainly focused on transitioning the business into digitization with the inclusion of a business continuity plan during the pandemic lockdowns

    Coronavirus is intensely changing various aspects of life, including in business. The pandemic has altered a variety of customer behaviours. The ability of companies to understand these behaviour changes affects business continuity. This study explains the relationship between customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce and its trends during the pandemic. This research is descriptive qualitative research using secondary data. This study found that CRM and e-commerce issues grew rapidly during the pandemic. These results show that customer awareness of e-commerce is increasing to make transactions of their needs. Simultaneously, this customer behaviour is anticipated by business people by improving CRM as an effort to manage customer satisfaction. Some results in different countries are not always the same response between CRM and e-commerce

This unstable economic condition affects many aspects. The company's turnover has decreased, people's income has decreased, job opportunities have decreased, the education level of the community is difficult to reach due to the absence of education costs. This pandemic that has hit Indonesia has an impact on the policy ecosystem that has been running previously, one of which is the policy in paying taxes. This is related to the economic situation that is also affected by the pandemic. The Bandung City Regional Revenue Management Agency sees this phenomenon. BAPENDA Bandung City innovates how to make people pay taxes from waste. In the end, BAPENDA collaborated with Bank Waste, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BJB to initiate the innovation. Through this collaboration, Bank Mandiri will act as a waste manager, and Bank BJB will play a role in financial management

    This study aims to see the effect of Transformational Leadership on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), with Motivation, Affective Commitment as the mediating variable. The method used in this research is quantitative by distributing questionnaires. The technique of taking samples is purposive sampling. The sample used is BUMN employees for at least one year. The number of respondents obtained was 120 respondents. Software applications performed with Smart PLS. The results of the study indicate that by path analysis, the variable of Transformational Leadership towards OCB with the mediator variables of Motivation and Commitment was significant because the p-value level is below 0.05
