Renewable Aviation Fuel: Review of Bio-jet Fuel for Aviation Industry

The search for environmentally sound, socially responsible, and economically viable renewable fuel generation methods is a major global concern. A type of aviation fuel called jet fuel or often spelled avtur is intended for use in aeroplanes with turbine (gas) engines. Jet fuel appears colourless. The fuels Jet A and Jet A-1 are the most frequently used ones in commercial aviation sector. Other than Jet B, which is utilised for its enhanced cold-weather operation, there are no other jet fuels that are frequently used in gas-turbine-engine in the aviation industry. Renewable aviation fuel or known as bio-jet fuels represent a sizable sector for the consumption of fossil fuels. The production of bioethanol and biodiesel for piston engine vehicles in internal combustion engines has already shown that biofuel can play a significant role in the development of sustainable renewable aviation jet fuel. Here, we also provide a book review on the potential bio-jet fuel as a renewable aviation jet fuel

Service Desk in Perspective of Information Technology Infrastructure Library 3rd-Version

ICT services are an essential element in modern organizations. Understanding the workings of service systems with specific frameworks helps manage services well. One of the services in this management is the Service Desk or Helpdesk. This study aims to explain the Service Desk using the ITIL V.3 framework. The method used is descriptive qualitative using relevant references. The results of this study indicate that ITIL V.3 can be used to describe the management of the Service Desk accurately

Environmental Impact Assessment of Brick Production in Indonesia

oai:ojs2.journal.iistr.org:article/48Brick is one of the building materials commonly used in building construction materials. The production activities of the brick industry have a lot of potential that can cause problems in the environment such as water, soil and air pollution. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential environmental impacts in the form of emissions and waste from brick production activities by applying the LCA method to the brick production process and to identify the inputs and outputs of the brick production process. To gain a deep understanding, a small enterprise of brick manufacturer was selected as a case study. The results of this study indicate that electricity and cement are the biggest causes of each category of impact. The category of potential global warming impact is the largest with a total of 6.95 kg CO2-eq. Although in all categories the percentages are more or less the same. This happens because the brick production process which almost entirely uses electrical energy in the production process and also the use of cement in large quantities has a major impact on the environmental impact

RFID Tag-equipped Drone for Antenna Array-based Localization: A Step-by-Step MATLAB Simulation Tutorial

In the last decades, Radio Frequency Identifiers (RFID) has gained massive popularity. In the last decades, Radio Frequency Identifiers (RFID) have gained massive popularity. RFID technology allows data to be encoded in a small form (tag). The data contained inside the RFID tag can be captured wirelessly by the RFID reader through electromagnetic (EM) waves. On the other hand, localization techniques have achieved significant developments in the last decade. There is a wide range of localization tool variations, including satellite-based localization (i.e., GPSS, GLONASS), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), IMU, camera, infrared sensor, and even RF-based localization. In this work, we present an accurate localization technique via battery-less passive RFID tag-UAV integration. We have employed two low-complexity methods: generalized cross-correlation with phase transformation (GCC-PHAT) algorithm and triangulation technique. By simulation, we have validated that an accurate antenna array-based dynamic localization can be realized. For the sake of simplicity, we only demonstrate two-dimensional movement. However, the identical method can also be used in the three-dimensional movement. While this paper considers only two antenna arrays and one RFID tag, the proposed concept can be expanded to a more extensive system with a larger number of antenna arrays and RFID tags

Review of Optical Diagnostic Technique for Diesel Spray

To enhance the fuel efficiency and reduce both NOX and soot emissions in diesel engine, it is essential to understand the mixture formation and the combustion process in the cylinder. The injection parameters such as pressure, mass and multiple approaches as well as the impingement play an important role in mixture formation, combustion process and emissions.  Previous works have addressed various optical diagnostic techniques. This review describes those factors mentioned above systematically to clarify the diesel spray in the compression ignition engine.  Therefore, a diesel vehicle with better fuel economy and low emission that meets the stringent regulation across the world could be realized

Economic Order Quantity Inventory Considering Perishable Factor in Product, Delay in Payment, All-Unit Discount, and Product Return

The inventory existence of the company is a waste but still needed to maintain service level. For drug industry companies, especially pharmaceutical installations, the expiration factor is a factor that needs to be considered because drugs have an expiration date. Previous research has an inventory model that considers product expiration factors, permissible payment delays, and price discounts. The developed study provides a solution to the loss of expiry costs by adding a return factor. This research aims to create an inventory model that considers expiration factors, permissible payment delays, discounts, and product returns. The result of the developed model can minimize the total cost of inventory by 3.37% with the predefined parameters compared to the previous model, which has not considered the return factor

Active Learning for Applied Strength of Materials Course: Evidence from NTTU

In the process of teaching Strength of Materials, students often find it difficult to understand and the level of achievement of the course learning outcomes is not high. Therefore, active teaching methods and application of computer aim to support students actively, proactively, and in project-based learning. This article presents the possibility of integrating the Mdsolids software in teaching strength of materials at Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) for students majoring in automotive engineering technology. The student satisfaction survey on the course and the application of Mdsolids in teaching were conducted and evaluated to test the effectiveness of active learning activities. The obtained results confirmed further evidence of the benefits of Mdsolids in supporting students to achieve the course learning outcomes.

An Interim Study of Integrating Spindle, Laser, and Plotter in a CNC Router Machine

Although there are so many CNC routers that have been created all around the world, when this manuscript was written, an integrated CNC router with multi different functions was still not common. In this work, we proposed, designed, fabricated, and evaluated a low-cost CNC Router machine that can perform numerous tasks (i.e., spindle engraving, laser, and plotter). Although we first employed a market-available CNC machine, we have developed, changed, and improved almost everything of it so that it can run and go through multiple processes in a single coding process with higher accuracy and efficiency. As a result, the proposed machine is adjusted to conduct an integrated operation without making any significant changes. Through the calibration process, we have validated that the proposed system is capable of performing high-accuracy processes. The proposed CNC router has a wide range of applications and can conduct a variety of engraving procedures, including plotting. Furthermore, when the machine is running, the project runs thru the checks on the accuracy analysis through several processes to ensure the accurate accuracy of the three available processes (spindle, laser, and plotter)
