No full textInternational audienceLe corpus connu de la correspondance de Condorcet avec ses contemporains ses contemporains britanniques est relativement restreint, notamment en comparaison de ses échanges épistolaires avec l'Amérique du Nord étudiés par M. Albertone dans ce volume et ailleurs 2. Cet article est consacré aux lettres de teneur politique échangées entre Condorcet et cint membres de la Royal Society : Richard Price (1723-1971), Joseph Priestley (1733-1804), Philip Stanhope (1714-1786), son fils Charles Stanhope (1753-1816) et James Keir (1735-1820) 3. Ces lettres offrent un aperçu des échanges entre Condorcet et des correspondants qui mènent de front engagement dans les affaires politiques et recherches scientifiques. Quant aux lettres plus proprement scientifiques, elles sont étudiées par Peter Jones dans un chapitre séparé dans ce volume (voir infra, p. 000). Les lettres qui ont survécu ne sauraient pourtant suffire à dresser un tableau exhaustif des échanges politiques entre Condorcet et la Grande-Bretagne. D'une part, si ces lettres font parfois allusion aux événements d'outre-Manche, c'est plutôt dans ses ouvrages publiés que Condorcet mène son analyse de la constitution britannique. Mais surtout, il est remarquable qu'aucune lettre entre Condorcet et Thomas Paine (1737-1809) ne nous soit parvenue alors que Paine est certainement l'Anglais avec lequel il collabore le plus étroitement sur le plan politique. Avec sept lettres retrouvées couvrant la période 1776-1792, la famille Stanhope s'impose comme le contact principal de Condorcet outre-Manche. Ces échanges s'appuient sur une réelle amitié qui se double aussi d'une concordance dans les objectifs politiques. Seule une lettre de Price à Condorcet, à l'occasion de l'envoi d'un livre en 1786, nous est parvenue. Trois lettres entre Priestley et Condorcet ont été retrouvées, elles marquent deux brefs contacts épistolaires. Le premier, en 1784, a lieu à l'occasion de l'élection de Priestley comme associé étranger de l'Académie des sciences, les autres sont relatives aux émeutes de Birmingham dont Priestley a été la victime en juillet 1791 en raison de son soutien à la Révolution. Enfin, une lettre est envoyée à Condorcet en novembre 1792 par James Keir, un proche de Priestley et comme lui membre de la Lunar Society. Elle accompagne un projet de constitution soumis à la Convention nationale qui n'a pas été retrouvé
Asymptotic geometry of lamplighters over one-ended groups

Comments are welcomeInternational audienceThis article is dedicated to the asymptotic geometry of wreath products where is a finite group and a one-ended finitely presented group. Our main result is a complete classification of these groups up to quasi-isometry. More precisely, given two finite groups and two finitely presented one-ended groups , we show that and are quasi-isometric if and only if either (i) are non-amenable quasi-isometric groups and have the same prime divisors, or (ii) are amenable, and for some , and there exists a quasi--to-one quasi-isometry . The article also contains algebraic information on groups quasi-isometric to such wreath products. This can be seen as far reaching extension of a celebrated work of Eskin-Fisher-Whyte who treated the case of . Our approach is however fundamentally different, as it crucially exploits the assumption that is one-ended. Our central tool is a new geometric interpretation of lamplighter groups involving natural families of quasi-median spaces

Observability of Baouendi-Grushin-Type Equations Through Resolvent Estimates
No full textInternational audienceIn this article, we study the observability (or, equivalently, the controllability) of some subelliptic evolution equations depending on their step. This sheds light on the speed of propagation of these equations, notably in the ``degenerated directions'' of the subelliptic structure. First, for any , we establish a resolvent estimate for the Baouendi-Grushin-type operator , which has step . We then derive consequences for the observability of the Schr\"odinger type equation where . We identify three different cases: depending on the value of the ratio , observability may hold in arbitrarily small time, or only for sufficiently large times, or even fail for any time. As a corollary of our resolvent estimate, we also obtain observability for heat-type equations and establish a decay rate for the damped wave equation associated with

The implementation of 'home schooling' is replacing the traditional organisation of school work and questions the required autonomy. We present the results of the survey conducted on the basis of interviews with parents, sometimes their children, and teachers in a REP+ college during which we collected their ways of adapting to the new situation.La crise sanitaire liée à la Covid 19 a engendré une fermeture des établissements scolaires que nous considérons comme révélatrice de logiques qui sous-tendent d'ordinaire le fonctionnement institutionnel.
