Mainers Agree Cost of Everyday Goods Has Increased but Differ on Future Prices 8/25/2025
A bipartisan majority of Maine residents believe prices on everyday goods have increased over the past year, but Democrats and Independents expect prices to continue to rise while most Republicans expect them to remain flat or decline. Those who expect prices to increase most often blame tariffs. Nearly half of Mainers expect to be worse off financially in a year, with higher costs and poor economic stewardship cited most often as the reason why. Pessimism about the state economy continues to grow, particularly among Independents. Mainers are more optimistic about the national economy than the state economy but a majority believe the overall economy is getting worse
