    After Another

ABSTRACT AFTER ANOTHER: A MEMOIR By Bianca Bourgault University of New Hampshire, May, 2025 This work of nonfiction details my life and how I came to be a 28-year-old alcoholic spending over six weeks in a hospital bed during the summer of 2020. Beyond describing my childhood and adolescent years, I also frame how environments, generational trauma, and abuse all play into the disease that is addiction. I use both past and present tenses for my chapters; present for the hospital trauma in 2020 and past for my life up until that point. Most stories of addiction pinpoint one experience that was the catalyst for the escalation of drug abuse, but my story is full of moments—one thing after another—that fueled my addiction

Investigating the effects of mutations to an acetylated lysine residue on transcription factor AP2X-7 in Toxoplasma gondii

    No full text
Toxoplasma is a clinically significant single-celled parasite that infects most warm-blooded animals. Due to its wide variety of hosts and complex life cycle, parasites must tightly regulate their gene expression to accommodate for the vastly different environments they occupy. This is achieved through epigenetic regulation, including post-translational modifications such as lysine acetylation, and through transcriptional level regulation. Here, we investigate the functional relevance of an acetylated lysine residue on transcription factor AP2X-7 by generating single amino acid mutations to mimic different acetylation states. We found that these mutations did not impact the cell-cycle-specific timing of AP2X-7 or result in a significant decrease in parasite viability. Additionally, we did not observe differences in the function of the genes bound by AP2X-7 upon mutation. Overall, we provide preliminary evidence to suggest that the acetylation of this residue in AP2X-7 does not significantly impact its function in parasite viability

UNH CCOM Western Gulf of Maine Reference Sites: Sub-Bottom Profiler Systems Sea Trials

    No full text
Sea trials of linear and parametric sub-bottom seismic profilers were conducted in the Western Gulf of Maine (WGOM) by the UNH Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM) and four industrial partners including Knudsen Engineering Limited (3260 Chirp SBP), EdgeTech (3400 SBP), Kongsberg Discovery (Topas PS40 and PS20 SBPs), and ECHO81 (Innomar Medium 100 SBP). The sea trials were part of a larger assessment of sub-bottom profiler systems by CCOM to better understand new developments in acoustic systems in differing seafloor geologic settings. Presented in this report are the sub-bottom seismic profiles, along with associated metadata, sea and weather conditions, and basic geologic interpretations, shown in five PDF documents, one for each system tested. The sea trials were conducted in four reference sites developed by CCOM for evaluating and testing acoustic systems. The reference sites cover a wide range of bottom types (sediment, morphology) and include a high-energy channel deposit (Portsmouth Harbor Entrance), a large sand shoal (Northern Sand Body), a paleodelta (Merrimack Paleodelta), and a muddy basin (Scantum Basin). Use of the reference sites facilitates qualitative, but geologically informed, evaluations to be made for sub-bottom systems

Correctional System Involvement and Health Outcomes

    No full text
The Institute for Health Policy and Practice (IHPP) at the University System of New Hampshire commissioned Scientific Health to conduct an evidence-based review of the relationship between criminal justice system involvement and health outcomes. This research synthesized findings from recently published, peer-reviewed academic literature and relevant reports to examine how correctional system involvement affects physical health, mental health, and overall well-being among incarcerated individuals, their families, and communities. The review identified common themes related to behavioral health, chronic conditions, and systemic impacts, providing insight into the broader health implications of mass incarceration and deinstitutionalization. These findings aim to inform policy discussions and future research on mitigating adverse health outcomes associated with correctional system involvement
