Rekonstrukcija kuće iz ranosrednjovjekovnog naselja Virovitica-Kiškorija jug
The state of research on early mediaeval rural areas in continental Croatia, as well as elsewhere in Croatia, is only in the incipient stage. This horizon is poorly preserved and largely destroyed by modern intensive farming practices. Recent large-scale salvage investigations on motorway routes greatly contributed to the knowledge about the form of early mediaeval houses. These investigations corroborated the statement about the poor preservation of the early mediaeval horizon in northern Croatia – only a couple of structures were sufficiently preserved to allow a reconstruction of the method of their construction.
In this paper we put forward a reconstruction of an early mediaeval house from the Kiškorija jug site near Virovitica. The structure belongs to the type of semi-sunken single-room houses with two supporting posts and a clay stove of circular or oval plan in a corner. It is dated to the period between the end of the 8th and the end of the 9th century.U kontinentalnoj Hrvatskoj, pa i na širem hrvatskom prostoru, istraženost ranosrednjovjekovnih ruralnih sredina u početnim je stadijima.

The article presents all the temple rings found in the graves in Velika Gorica. Some of them, previously published in the 1973 Vinski-Gasparini book, have been reconstructed while others are new. Some temple rings come from destroyed graves. According to the 1960 classification by Starè, they mostly belong to Type 2. The article also provides a statistical analysis of grave goods in Velika Gorica, in particular the incidence of temple rings in the Velika Gorica and Dobova graveyards. The temple rings are analysed on the basis of analogous samples from Central Europe and are associated with related passementerie-style findings from the Carpathian Basin.U radu se donose svi nalazi sljepoočničarki iz grobova u Velikoj Gorici.
The coat of arms of Veli Lošinj consists of a triangular shield. Represented on a light blue background is a circular tower with a battlement, two windows and arched entrance doors. It lies on an ashlar masonry constructed of one, three, six, seven or eight courses of stone blocks.
Sotin-Jaroši, Archaeological Trial Excavations in 2009
In the 2009 campaign, a surface of 575 m2 was excavated in the south-eastern part of Sotin, where a field survey suggested the south-eastern border of Iron Age cemetery. However, the excavations did not confirm this assumption, and it is evident that the Iron Age cemetery stretches even further towards the southeast. There are more Roman incineration graves in the northern part of trial-trench 4 and the central part of trial-trench 5, while more skeleton graves appear in the southern part of trial-trench 5. In the westernmost trial-trench 6, stretching over a surface of 60 m2, and situated at the highest level above the sea, only the Early Iron Age grave 24 was found.
The 2009 excavations expanded the knowledge about spatial distribution of Early Iron Age burials in smaller groups; while older graves are closer to the settlement (graves 2 and 3), younger graves (10 and 23) are south of the settlement. This year’s excavations proved 452 m areal distance between graves belonging to the Dalj group community, and earlier rescue excavations in V. Nazora Street had confirmed that it was bigger, pointing to the settlement’s size, but also the long continuity of burying in the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age.
Newly discovered are the facts about three horizons of the Roman cemetery, as well as a possible 4th century AD residential part, whose orientation might suggest the direction of the roads. Extraordinary finds of contemporaneous Roman skeleton and incineration graves verify acceptance of different burial rites of the population of the 2nd and the first half of the 3rd centuries AD in Cornacum.
The questions about the relationship between Iron Age settlement and cemetery in the sense of how far away from the settlement they buried their deceased, as well as about the location of the Iron Age cemetery southern and western borders, remain open. A hypothesis is made on burying in smaller groups that possibly followed the principle of family attachment instead of the principle of a place that served for burying all the community members at a certain point of time. Furthermore, there is the burning question of the prevention and conservation of this extraordinarily important site from various historical periods, at which people have resided and built their structures ever since. It is evident that the present village of Sotin was built on a Roman and Iron Age necropolis.
Two-year trial excavations at the site of Srednje Polje (micro locations Vašarište and Jaroši) provided answers to some of the questions raised during the study of the way of life of proto-historical communities in Sotin. Other questions still remain open, and some new ones have arisen with extraordinary information about the attire, as well as the rite of leaving weapons and pieces of meat as grave goods in the Dalj group incineration graves
Japodske tropentljaste fibule
The discussion focuses on three-looped fibulae (Fig. 1), a significant element of the female attire in the Iapodian territory (Fig. 2). The analysis of jewelry in the graves from Kompolje and Prozor has shown (Fig. 3) that this type of fibula is an exceptionally traditional and conservative piece of jewelry when compared with the other types. It remained in use through several centuries and must have been an important indicator of the identity of the women who wore them. We can conclude from the combinations of three-looped fibulae and caps of types I, II and III after Drechsler-Bižić and various pins (Fig. 4, 5), as well as from their position in graves that they were used for fastening the head covering, whether a cap or a kerchief. We attempted to demonstrate the way the Iapodian three-looped fibulae were worn on the example of the girls’ or women’s attire of the Dinaric type, characteristic for northern Dalmatia including the southeastern part of the Velebit Mountain, as well as for Bosnia (Fig. 6–8).Raziskava je posvečena tropentljastim fibulam (sl. 1), ki so značilne za žensko nošo na področju Japodov (sl. 2).
The find of a vessel interpreted as a mould/strainer for cheese inspired us to attempt a comparative reconstruction of the cheese-making process in the Roman period and the home-made cheese production of today.
The work contains an analysis of finds dated to Antiquity and the Late Middle Ages from Postira, on the island of Brač, discovered during rescue archaeological research at the site of the Pastoral Centre, south-west of the Early Christian Basilica of St. John. During research, a Roman-era altar dedicated to Venus, architecture from Late Antiquity, the remains of a late medieval cemetery, movable finds from Early and Late Antiquity and the Late Middle Ages were discovered.U radu se obrađuju antički i kasnosrednjovjekovni nalazi iz Postira na otoku Braču koji su otkriveni tijekom zaštitnog arheološkog istraživanja na mjestu Pastoralnog centra, jugozapadno od ranokršćanske bazilike sv. Ivana. Istraživanjem je otkriven rimski žrtvenik posvećen Veneri, kasnoantička arhitektura, ostaci kasnosrednjovjekovnog groblja, pokretni nalazi iz rane i kasne antike, te kasnog srednjeg vijeka
