Elution Profiles of Eleven PAHs from a C-18 Chromatographic Column by using a HPLC-DAD Method

    No full text
    In this article we present elution profiles of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) benzanthrone (BA), 2-nitrobenzanthrone (2-NBA), fluoranthene (FL), 3-nitrofluoranthene (3-NFL), pyrene (PY), 1-aminopyrene (1-APY), 1-nitropyrene (1-NPY), chrysene (CHY), 6-aminochrysene (6-ACHY), 6-nitrochrysene (6-NCHY) and triphenylene (TP) by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The separation was achieved via running an isocratic mobile phase solvent system (acetonitrile: methanol 50%:50%, v/v), and a flow rate of 0.75 mL/min. Two wavelengths (l = 280 nm and 254 nm) were monitored with a diode array detector (DAD). In addition, this study presents the calculated dipole moments via the . After optimization with use of an isocratic solvent system bands eluted from a C-18 column in the order: 1-APY (4.57 mins) \u3c 6-ACHY (4.62 mins) \u3c 2-NBA (5.77 min) \u3c 6-NCHY (6.16) \u3c 3-NFL (6.33 min) \u3c BA (6.41min) \u3c 1-NPY (6.45 min) \u3c FL (6.47 mins) \u3c PY (7.13 min) \u3c TP (7.46 mins) \u3c chrysene (7.62 mins). Theoretically calculated dipole moments (Table 2) are predictive of the retention times. They approximately are inversely correlated to the elution profiles; namely, pyrene (0.100 D) = chrysene (0.000 D) = triphenylene (0.0000 D) \u3c fluoranthene (0.3506 D) \u3c 6-aminochrysene (1.6856 D) \u3c 2-NBA (2.0087 D) \u3c 1-aminopyrene (2.0294 D) \u3c benzanthrone (3.8516 D) \u3c 6-nitrochrysene (5.3595 D) \u3c 3-NFL (5.7965 D) \u3c 1-NPY (5.9913 D)

Describing the Experiences of Fulfillment and Stress in Coptic Orthodox Priests

This qualitative study was conducted to understand how Coptic Orthodox priests describe their experiences of fulfillment and/or stress with their work. While many Christian leaders such as pastors, reverends, and clergy helping to serve their church members are represented in the literature, there is limited research on the roles and experiences of the Coptic Orthodox priesthood serving their communities. The Coptic church has been around for centuries, and the church has a history of religious persecution. The research question was “how do Coptic Orthodox priests describe their experiences of fulfillment and/or stress with their work?” The research methodology used in this study was generic qualitative inquiry. There were ten male Coptic Orthodox priests interviewed for this study. These participants were serving in the ministry for over two years. The primary data analysis used for this generic qualitative study was theoretical analysis. The findings of the study indicated that the priests were stressed with administrative responsibilities and helping their congregants. Overall, they felt fulfilled with their ministry because of their social support, self-care practice, and strong relationship with God. Recommendations for future research includes are those who were invited but did not accept the calling and specifically recruited priests who identified as burnt out and the daily experiences of priests’ wives and children

This phenomenological study explored perceived first-generation college student retention at a Texas four-year higher education institution post-vertical transfer. The participants in this study consisted of 12 full-time and part- time students who identified as first-generation college students and had vertically transferred from a two-year higher education institution. In addition, participants transferred between 35 and 120 academic credit hours from a two-year higher education institution and had been enrolled for at least one academic semester at their four-year higher education institution. On-campus and virtual semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed, which resulted in major themes. This study revealed academic and social integration were crucial to retaining first-generation college students post-vertical transfer. In addition, this study identified key support services that the population perceived as the most beneficial in aiding their retention. As a result, this study’s implications can aid four-year higher education institutions in developing effective practices and programs to retain and support first-generation vertical transfer students

This study investigates the impact of an animal nutrition course on pet owners during the Fall of 2023. The primary objective is to determine how a pet owner\u27s perception of their pet\u27s diet changes and to identify any corresponding alterations made to the pet\u27s diet before and while taking an animal nutrition course. Two surveys were conducted to collect responses: the pre-survey received 18 responses from animal nutrition students regarding their pets\u27 diets before taking the course, and the post-survey received 18 responses from animal nutrition students regarding any changes in their pets\u27 diets while taking the course

Does Perceived University Support Moderate Health Living and Job Satisfaction?

    Get PDF
The present study examines the relationships between and the moderating effects of perceived university support (PUS) on engagement in health promotion (HP) behaviors and job satisfaction (JS) in a sample of university professors in Texas (n=70, 71% female). Consenting participants provided their responses to three scales measuring these constructs and then completed several demographic questions. Regression analysis revealed that PUS was the only factor in predicting JS. Adding the interaction term did not explain any further predictions for the model. However, correlations suggest that greater JS was associated with higher reports of PUS. PUS was also associated with reports of engagement in more HP behaviors. Lastly, engagement in more HP behaviors was correlated with greater JS. Professors’ perceived levels of university support may still be a key factor in maintaining professors’ satisfaction within their position. This suggests people may need to feel supported by their organization (and engage in routine HP behaviors), to attribute positive outcomes, like increased JS, to the organization

The Role of Effective Interprofessional Collaboration in Social Worker Burnout in a Northeastern Veterans Affairs Medical Center: Implications for Social Work Education

    Get PDF
This preliminary study explored effective interprofessional collaboration’s role on social worker burnout within a single Veterans Affairs medical center. Twenty-one social workers completed a survey to collect data on burnout, effective interprofessional collaboration components, and demographic characteristics. On average, social workers reported moderately low burnout levels. As collective ownership of goals increased, burnout decreased. Similarly, as reflection on interprofessional team processes increased, burnout decreased. Future research would benefit from a large, randomly-sampled group of social work participants across multiple sectors to develop implications for social work education. Including measures of person, client, and work characteristics that have been previously associated with burnout would also be beneficial

    Closet Space

Closet Space is an exhibition investigating what makes a home. Through the creation of six drawings and seven prints, I investigate the relationship between isolation and companionship. This body of work explores the concept that a home is not simply a physical structure made up of walls and doors. Instead, it is about the emotional connections we create with places and people. Through fragmented memories, imagined environments, and a desire to connect with others, I address that the true meaning of home lies in our emotional attachments to inhabited spaces and the people we share them with. Being queer in the South heavily relies on the ability to perform. Balancing familial and societal expectations while staying true to myself was difficult. I use exaggerated perspectives and limited color palettes to examine my association with domestic interior settings, my sense of self, and my connections with others

ISO 14001:2015 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ACCREDITATION FRAMEWORK FOR STEPHEN F. AUSTIN STATE UNIVERSITY, A MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SYSTEM

The International Organization of Standardization is a worldwide federation of membered bodies. The mission of ISO is to achieve the balance between the environment, society, and the economy. These are essential to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System accreditation allows any business or organization, no matter the type, size or product to showcase its commitment toward environmental stewardship. This accreditation requires the development and successful implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS is set out to continually improve a company’s environmental performance. Since 2016, Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of the University of Texas System has had an EMS that is applied toward daily operations. This thesis compares the university\u27s EMS to the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 accreditation framework to determine if this accreditation is feasible. This will be accomplished by conducting interviews, performing a Cost Benefit Analysis of electricity and gasoline usage, and reviewing and recommending revisions that can be made to the current EMS to better align with ISO 14001:2015
