Hill Country Tamils of Sri Lanka: Analysis of Legal and Policy issues affecting labour and governance structure
62p.This report examines the socio-economic background and history of the Hill Country Tamil community (HCT) with a focus on health, education, labour and their primary engagement in the tea plantation industry. Thereafter, the report dives into the three main drivers of disadvantage that have paved the way to perpetuating the long-standing issues of discrimination and marginalisation in access to state services and major human rights guarantees faced by the HCT communities in this sector.
Using a legislative lens, this report specifically focuses on issues in the tea plantation sector such as lack of access to public administration, absence of labour rights of workers and the absence of land and housing rights. As such, this report is formulated with the broader objective of making appropriate suggestions to increase the state’s participation in service delivery, and upholding the state’s responsibility to respect, promote and guarantee the rights of the HCT community

On October 16, Derana, Hiru, ITN, Sirasa, Rupavahini, Swarnavahini, and Siyatha reported the protest against the SLPP rally in Nawalapitiya in the headlines. While all the channels focused on the protest, Rupavahini headline's focus was on Mahinda Rajapaksa's comments at the rally.
On October 10, Derana, Hiru, ITN, Sirasa, Swarnavahini, and Siyatha reported Veddha chief Uruwarige Wannila Aththo's statement that he received death threats due to the comments he made about Wasantha Mudalige. Rupavahini did not report this news

Syndicated Surveys by Verité Research which gauge public sentiment on Sri Lankans' various social and political viewpoints. The data is collected through a telephone interview and a nationwide randomised sample of around one thousand people is taken into consideration. The poll is based on an island wide nationally representative sample of responses from 1,000 plus Sri Lankan adults. The poll is conducted as a part of the syndicated survey instrument by Verité Research and the polling partner was Vanguard Survey (Pvt) Ltd. This instrument also provides other organisations the opportunity to survey the sentiments of Sri Lanka. This question evaluates the need for an executive presidency for Sri Lanka

These reports fail to accurately identify the patients as 'HIV' infected persons. HIV is the virus that spreads and attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS. Not everyone who is infected by the virus develops AIDS. Such inaccurate reporting can lead to the spread of false and incorrect ideas in society

Mawbima and Divaina reported on a death by suicide due to economic hardship without mentioning helplines, which is a violation of media ethics on reporting suicides.
Death of a national athlete: Divaina, Mawbima, Aruna, Dinamina, Daily News, The Morning, Lankadeepa, Daily Mirror, Ada, The Island, Swarnavahini, Derana, ITN and Hiru did not publish helplines when covering the story. Divaina, Mawbima, Aruna, Dinamina, Daily News, Swarnavahini, Derana, ITN and Hiru featured the story prominently. Giving prominence to suicide news is discouraged in media ethics as it could trigger more suicides.
Divaina and Swarnavahini mentioned the method of suicide, while Swarnavahini, Mawbima and Aruna also published suicide notes, which is in violation of media ethics guidelines
