    This infographic is available in English and Sinhala.This infographic shows the absenteeism of MPs during 8 major votes taken by division in the parliament from January 2023 to July 2023. According to the analysis, on average 39.3% of MPs were absent when the votes were taken by division. There are 4 MPs who were absent for all the 8 votes. i.e., Tissa Vitharana (SLPP), C.V. Wigneswaran (TMTK), Dharmalingam Sithadthan (ITAK) and Govindan Karunakaram (ITAK) whereas 11 MPs were present for all the 8 votes

This progress does not align with Sri Lanka’s commitment to the IMF to ensure the publication of financial reports for all 52 key SOEs by the end of June 2023 as a part of its most recent program. The publication of financial information plays a crucial role in enhancing the transparency and accountability of State-Owned Enterprises

    This entry has one write-up and one infographic (all in Sinhala).On 24 July 2023, Sinhala newspapers published articles on an incident in Vavuniya where a group of masked persons attacked a home and set in on fire, which resulted in the death of a female. The newspapers Mawbima, Lankadeepa, Divaina, Ada, Aruna had published images of the deceased female. Mawbima had gone a step further by including a picture which depicts the group of thugs who had killed the woman after setting the house on fire. Such reportage has been driven by a need to sensationalise the news story

    These infographics were posted on the Public Finance Platform in English.Sri Lanka verifiably met 41 of the 73 trackable commitments that were due for completion by end-October 2023 in its ongoing programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to the latest update from ‘IMF Tracker’ of Verité Research. The number of not met commitments was 11 and the status of 21 other commitments were ‘unknown’. For comparison, by end-September Sri Lanka had verifiably met 40 of the 71 trackable commitments that were due for completion, with 10 ‘not met’ commitments and 21 unknown commitments

    These infographics were posted on the Public Finance Platform in English.Sri Lanka’s 2023 IMF Programme includes a commitment to disclose public procurement contracts through an online fiscal transparency platform. The online transparency platform was to be operational by March 2023, but the platform was not established by the 31st of March and the commitment was thus not met.   Regulation 20 and Section 9 of the RTI Act and its guidelines of the Right to information Act No.12 of 2016, which has been in effect since 2017, requires the government to proactively disclose information relating to projects, including procurement and contract information. Verite Research's Infrastructure Watch dashboard assessed 60 infrastructure projects worth LKR 2.54 trillion for compliance with proactive disclosure requirements of Section 9 of the RTI Act. Disclosure for procurement and contract related information was found to be alarmingly low
